"Readers will adore this." - Starred Review, Publishers Weekly

Kindle the spirit of the season as four of your favorite storytellers weave tales of love and hope in this charming yuletide collection.

  • Lord Blakely's Gift: When Miss Ivy Hunt and Lord Curtis Blakely establish a secret acquaintance, neither can deny that their feelings extend beyond friendship. But as the children of bitter rivals, it will take a Christmas miracle for this star-crossed pair to reach their happily ever after.

  • A Season of Hope: Following the death of her father, Amelia knows Christmas will be lean. But when circumstances become dire, it is the unexpected arrival of a childhood friend that renews Amelia’s hope—both for the future and for love.

  • Christmas By the Sea: After two years at sea with the Royal Navy, surgeon Will Crenshaw longs for a quiet Christmas with his family. But when unrest at home threatens to ruin the holidays, it takes the kindly intervention of a mysterious house sitter to remind them of the true meaning of the season.

  • Expectations at Canterwood: Marina Rowley is a spinster, Richard Stanhope a war-weary military man. A case of mistaken identity throws them together, but the unexpected stirrings of their hearts lead to an unforgettable holiday romance.

A Great Way to Start the Christmas Season
Aptly named "A Hopeful Christmas," features four short stories, each penned by a different author. While the writing and the tales may be different, the feelings you have when reading them remains the same- the warmth of friendship, the blossom of new love, and hope for a better world—making them a perfect way to start your holiday celebrations.

I enjoyed all 4 stories very much. In most story collections I have read, there are some stories I love and some I don’t. But all 4 stories in this anthology were so very good.

I enjoyed each of these stories. I especially liked Christmas by the Sea as it is quite different than most books I’ve read. All four of the stories are delightful.

All the stories are excellent. I appreciate romantic, clean stories that are uplifting. I loved the story by Carla Kelly, it really pulled at my heart strings. I recommend all four stories.

OK, I'm a sucker for Christmas stories! I have quite a few, most including a story or two by Carla Kelly. I bought this for Ms Kelly's story, but I enjoyed them all. In 'Lord Blakely's Gift' Ivy's dutiful care of her dying grandmother and a lost purse may result in love and marriage... If Lord Blakely has the heart to overcome his family's objections to her past and family. 'A Season of Hope' brings Phillip home. But changes in his father are a challenge. His animosity towards the grieving and impoverished family of Phillip's best friend looms large as Phillip realizes his feelings towards one of the Nesbitts are more than brotherly. My FAVORITE 'Christmas by the Seas' brings surgeon Josh Crenshaw home to his loving wife and children, his meddlesome family and a mysterious elderly man who just might change their lives. "Christmas by the Sea' proves Ms Kelly the mistress of 'the Dukeless Regency'. I was so taken by the Crenshaw's fondness for 'shabby Salcombe' that I went looking on Google maps! Witty, intriguing, joyful, a celebration of Christmas spirit and hope, as some many of Ms Kelly's Christmas stories are.
"Expectations at Canterwood' finds the path to love is rocky. The main protagonists have to find their way past mistaken identity and their own self doubts, and family doesn't smooth the path. Will they find a future together?

I recommend this in either hard copy or Kindle. I enjoyed it so much I bought the Audible narration. It made this fun book full of color and joy flat and insipid, a total 'meh'. Skip it, but don't skip this lovely anthology!

Two stories with goats, if you please. A spinster with glasses. And a wonderful, thought provoking Carla Kelly novella. Lovely.

First thing to say - I bought this book.
I’m a longterm fan of Christmas anthologies and I pre-order everything that Carla Kelly publishes.
Thankfully, Carla Kelly hasn’t let me down with her story in this anthology. It is, as usual, a lovely romance, with Kelly’s beliefs on her sleeve, yet delivered with a kindness that is hard to beat. There will be no surprises for Kelly fans - her hero is flawless, his loving wife a pearl beyond price and their children are all cast in the same mould.. As I’ve mentioned in previous reviews, Kelly’s predictability could make her boring, but somehow it doesn’t - and that’s why she is such a keeper.
Of the other stories, to my mind only one comes anywhere close to Kelly’s offering and that is Expectations at Canterwood. While I found the story to drag on and on at certain points, it is saved by the way in which the H and the h help one another see their lives from an alternative perspective - and by a romance that is more than skin deep, full of warmth and mutual support.
A Season for Hope left me more in the cold. A man who appears to have made his fortune at the expense of slaves? Two young men travel to Jamaica, penniless, to work on a plantation and only a few years later the H returns to England, very wealthy? With only a mention of him working hard and investing wisely? And, as an almost aside, mention of the “workers” on the plantation. This doesn’t gel with me in a Christmas tale.
The final story, Lord Blakely’s Gift, has the odd touch that is appealing, but the author’s writing style is not for me. I found it clunky and difficult to read.

I would love to tell you which Christmas tale was my favorite but I loved them all! Each has an individual sweetness and gentle romance that I simply don’t have room here to praise them as they deserve. This collection was a joy to read.

Each story in this collection has very well developed personalities and story lines. I read many regency books and I must say these stories leave the others in the shade. These are unique and not rehashing of familiar story lines. Very refreshing.
I'm looking forward to finding more stories from these authors.
