Hero in Her Heart Kindle Edition

It’s a time for healing in this heartwarming romance by bestselling author Marta Perry, part of The Flanagans series.

Nolie Lang learned at an early age that animals wouldn’t let her down like people did. Her farm was a haven for abandoned animals—and a source of hope for the disabled. But now, to get a crucial grant, Nolie had to work with the most stubborn man she’d ever met, injured firefighter Gabriel Flanagan.

Though Gabe clearly didn’t want to depend on anyone, including God, he and Nolie became reluctant partners. And all too soon the courage she witnessed in his actions disarmed her. But his injury had convinced Gabe he had nothing to offer Nolie. Could God now make Gabe see he’d always be a hero in her heart?

I realized I wanted to be a writer at age eight, when I read my first Nancy Drew novel, The Secret of the Old Clock. Most little girl reach the end of that book wanting to be Nancy. I wanted to be the person who created the story!

The dream lay hidden for years while I became a teacher, married, had children...all the usual things. But eventually it re-surfaced, and I began to write, beginning with short children's stories for Sunday school take-home papers. It seemed a long time until that first acceptance, but eventually I began to sell. After some three hundred published short stories, I finally found the courage to work on the novel I'd always wanted to write.

Sixty-some published novels later, I still feel the same excitement every time I begin a new book--a mix of not believing I can do it combined with an overwhelming urge to see the story on the page.

A lifetime spent in rural Pennsylvania and my own Pennsylvania Dutch roots eventually led me to the books I'm writing now about the Amish. The Pleasant Valley Amish series from Berkley Books are longer, more complex emotional stories with Amish main characters, while my forthcoming HQN suspense novels are more adventure-filled books set in Pennsylvania Dutch country. I'm also writing a Love Inspired series about the Amish, The Brides of Lost Creek.

When I'm not writing, I'm busy with church activities, traveling, and spending time with my three children and six beautiful grandchildren.

I enjoy reading books for a lot of different reasons. This book is one that brings a smile to my face and a reminder of some of life's simple truths. It reminds me that life does have happy and sad, hard and easy parts to it and they do balance each other out if we take time to look. Read this book for pure enjoyment and escape.

What my husband and I really like about Marta's books is the realism in which she portrays young love. The development of a relationship is always unpredictable and one can learn more about how to do relationships. She also seems to know the hang-ups someone who's been hurt will have and gives her characters healthy ways to deal with those hang-ups.

I loved the story, even though it was predictable. In spite of that, Marta Perry can produce interesting stories with lots of good details that fill out the story and make it different than her other books. I would highly recommend this book. The entire Flanagan series is great; my favorite is Her Only Hero.

Nolie Lang is determined to get a grant for her program for training service dogs. In order to prove her program worthy, the charity potentially funding the grant has picked a candidate to prove Nolie's program works - injured firefighter Gabriel (Gabe) Flanagan. As soon as Nolie meets Gabe, however, it's very obvious to her that she;s going to have a fight on her hands - Gabe doesn;t want to even acknowledge that he has a problem. But Nolie's determined to fight - and win - for the sake of her program, whether Gabe likes it or not!
Gabe Flanagan could only groan when he realized that he was going to work with this plain Jane to improve a problem that he believes doesn't exist anymore. As Gabe gets to know Nolie, though, he realizes that she's not a plain Jane at all - and the heart she has for animals and children is incredible. Nolie continues to hold herself back from most adult interaction, preferring to spend most of her time alone on her farm for abandoned animals. He's feeling things for Nolie, though, that he can't explain, and he know she's feeling the same way. Can these two injured people be healed through love?
I loved the character of Nolie - although deeply wounded from her childhood, she still persevered and didn't let her bad experiences defeat her. She's the perfect counterpart for Gabe, because he refuses to face the problems that threaten his beloved career, and Nolie has faced her demons and tried to move on as best as she can. They both helped one another, and that is what I enjoyed the most about this book. Although a Christian book, I think anyone who likes clean reading can enjoy this book. I have always liked Marta Perry's books, and this book was as good as the rest! Even better, this book is the first in the series 'The Flanagans,' so be watching for more books involving the Flanagan family!

Loved this first book in the Flanagan series. The series is about a family of firefighters. Not read any other in the series yet but I really enjoyed this one so shall be reading the rest. Loved the characters in the book especially Daniel who such a sweetie, even down to the animals. The main character Gabe need to work with Nolie to be able to get his job as fire fighter back and Nolie need to show the grant how she work. Both have problems they have to work through but can they work through these to not only achieve these goals but realise achieve they full potential as God intended. Really loved this book and the passage in Hebrews used in the book 'let us draw near to the throne of grace' is really lovely and very fitting to the book. On my way to buy the rest of the series highly recommend.
