As the wedding day approaches, Richard is visited by three Sisters of Light who insist on bringing him to the Palace of the Prophets to be trained as a Wizard. Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This satisfying sequel to Goodkind's powerful debut novel, Wizard's First Rule, has everything one could ask for in an epic fantasy. In the earlier book, Seeker of Truth Richard Cypher tricked the sorcerer Darken Rahl by using Wizard's First Rule (that people are stupid and can be easily misled) into opening the wrong Box of Orden. Though this saved humanity from the evil mage's tyrannies, it also tore the veil between worlds, so the diabolical Keeper of the Underworld can now reach through and seize permanent control of the living. To stop this from happening, Richard must now learn how to be a wizard. The Sisters of the Light promise they will teach him to wield his powers, but they require that he wear a collar of obedience, something he has sworn he would rather die than do. Events sweep Richard and his betrothed, the Mother Confessor Kahlan Amnell, apart from one another; later, in one of the most vigorous battle sequences written for a heroine in modern fantasy, Kahlan leads her underage troops against battle-hardened soldiers, the young warriors naked except for a spectral coat of whitewash intended to make them look like "spirits." Those who like their fantasy big and brassy will revel in this exemplar of the genre.

From Library Journal

After the death of Sorcerer Darken Rahl, Richard Cypher?a woods guide turned reluctant hero?finds that his responsibilities have only just begun. He seeks a teacher to help him control his magical gift but is caught in a difficult struggle to retain control over his destiny. Goodkind's talents for world building and characterization are again featured in this sequel to Wizard's First Rule (LJ 9/15/94). He explores not only the deeds but the innermost thoughts of his heroes and villains. Graphic depictions of sex and violence, though integral to the story, limit this powerful saga to mature audiences.

Terry Goodkind is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author and creator of the critically acclaimed masterwork, ‘The Sword of Truth’. He has written 30+ major, bestselling novels, has been published in more than 20 languages world-wide, and has sold more than 26 Million books.

‘The Sword of Truth’ is a revered literary tour de force, comprised of 17 volumes, borne from over 25 years of dedicated writing. Terry Goodkind's brilliant books are character-driven stories, with a focus on the complexity of the human psyche. Goodkind has an uncanny grasp for crafting compelling stories about people like you and me, trapped in terrifying situations. With masterful storytelling, Goodkind brings us into the lives of his characters; characters that must rise to face not only challenges, but their deepest fears. For that reason, Goodkind’s characters speak to the best and worst in all of us.

While ‘The Sword of Truth’ series is confirmation enough of Goodkind’s incredible storytelling abilities, his broad talents are also clearly evident in his contemporary novels, set within our own world. His post-‘Sword of Truth’ books are a thrilling, dizzying, mix of modern narrative, with every bit of Goodkind’s masterful voice intact. The bond built between the reader and one of the world’s great authors, rises above worlds and settings, mere backdrops for Goodkind’s uniquely intricate stories of life, love, challenge, and triumph.

"My privilege in life is the joy of writing books and telling stories about people who fascinate me, the good and the bad. I am grateful to all of my readers for the critical role they play in making these books possible. Your passion is my passion, and I thank you." - Terry Goodkind

The dust jacket is different from the photo provided (this is a first edition I think). I wish that would have been noted in the description, but otherwise the book is in good condition.

It's hard to put this one down. Many a times i found myself continuing to keep reading long into the night. Goodkind has an amazing ability to jump from character to character seamlessly without it being a distraction.

The errors in this kindle book are ridiculous. Its a shame that the great writing its partially ruined by terrible editting. I can't speak for the printed version but this ebook has so many errors, at points, its hard to read. One common example is using the word "that" instead of "than". This seems trivial but after a while, you have to study every instance of the word to figure out which he meant. As the book progresses the errors come more and more often. I just hate that I loved this book so much and every time I got some momentum while reading, I would be dragged to a halt and pulled from the world by these errors. Aside from GRRM's stuff, this is one of the more expensive ebooks I've bought. It would be nice, with the ton of money I'm sure they've made on this book, if they could find someone to properly edit this.

That being said, I loved this book. It gets moving more slowly that wizard's first rule, but it is also more than double the size. Some of the stuff going on felt like it wasn't really needed but by the end, everything tied together nicely. At one point, I was convinced that there was no way this book would wrap up what was going on. It seemed to be dragging its feet but at about the 2/3 mark, this thing just takes off. As another reviewer said, the last 300 pages demand to be read. I thought after this book I might take a break and read some other stuff but I have got to know what happens to Richard, Zedd, Kahlan and the rest.

All in all, this book is amazing. I couldn't give it 5 stars because of the constant annoyance from all the errors but there's no way I would recommend not reading this if you liked the first book.

On a side note, another reviewer complains about a section of the book being moved to the end. I'm not sure this is an error. I believe it was intentional in its placement. The passage at the end doesn't take away from the story but in fact, gives you a "holy $#!+" moment when you realize what's being said. Again, I think this is intentional and even if it wasn't, I think the book is better read like this.

I cried when I found out Terry Goodkind had passed a couple of years ago. He is absolutely my favorite author and I am an avid fantasy fan. The story line following Kalhan and Richard is rich, complex, compelling and the best ever character development. There are so many sub story lines that weave an intricate lace through out the series. Small seemingly incidental happenings are richly developed further within the series. While it is the classic GOOD vs. EVIL scenario, the plot is original, unique and extensive. I highly recommend it to any fantasy readers.

PLEASE NOTE: Today I happened to look at the listing on Amazon and saw that reader(s) had reported errors and the publisher had been notified of them. I have found 3 or 4 very, very minor errors such as missing quotation marks (2) that do not distract from the story at all. Please do not let this negatively affect your decision to read and/or purchase this book. It is a wonderful, full of wonder, series and I hate to think that my reporting these minuscule errors will keep anyone from enjoying this remarkable book and series.

A awesome and great read every time. I will forever love this series as I see a lot of myself in Richard and the lessons to be learned from him.

I think I enjoy this book more as a re-read, I can relax and know that the story will work itself out, without worrying about the complications.

Richard has not yet fully come to terms with who he is, and just wants to marry Kahlan and return to a simpler life. Maybe it won't be so simple since she's the Mother Confessor, but still, no more races against death. Yeah right.

Richard's magic is waking up and he has no idea how to wield it. To save him, Kahlan turns Richard over to the Sisters of the Light, sorceresses from the Old World who train wizards. Unfortunately, neither Kahlan or Richard knows that home of the Sisters, the Palace of the Prophets is a time-spell, and Richard will be there for 200 plus years! Also, there are Sisters of the Dark, hoping to open the veil and break the Keeper free. Richard allowed the veil to be torn when he tricked Darken Rahl into opening one of the boxes of Orden.

A new force is sweeping the Midlands - the Imperial Army, and they're out to destroy magic, and are basically just dicks. Good think Kahlan was trained by her warrior king father, since she helps a ragtag group of young army men fight off the forces. Too bad there is more evil awaiting her in Aydindril (I'm sure that's spelled wrong).

Where's Zedd? Well Zedd and Adie were afflicted by subtractive magic and are dying. To save themselves, they may lose their identities, and their magic.

Sound confusing? Yes, but read the book, it is much better than I can possibly explain here.
