I Can Only Imagine: The Rest of the Story Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 976 ratings

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Baxter Family novels shares a short, inspiring story about her family and the importance of faith.

I Can Only Imagine is the first e-short in Karen Kingsbury's The Rest of the Story series. In it, Karen shares personal anecdotes about herself and her family, highlighted by her relationship with her late brother Dave. With heartfelt grace, she describes Dave’s struggles with addiction and his troubled journey toward redemption. It’s a touching and intimate reminder that God is close to the brokenhearted, and that He calls each of us to love well, laugh often, and find true life in Jesus Christ.

HOW BEAUTIFUL FOR SHARING THIS KAREN. THANK YOU, YOUR TALENT FOR THE STORIES YOU BRING TO US, AND YOUR LOVE AND FAITH IN OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. GROWING UP AS A PK,(preachers kid) I WAS RESENTFUL OF THE LIFE OUR DAD HAD CHOSEN FOR MY BROTHER AND I. THE CHURCH SERVICES, SUNDAY SCHOOL, CHOIR, ETC. RECENTLY WE LOST OUR WONDERFUL GOD FAIRING DAD AT THE AGE OF 92' ALL OF MY GROWING UP YEARS I WAS RESENTFUL OF DAD. IN LATER YEARS I GREW TO LOVE AND RESPECT THIS MAN AND HIS LOVE OF OUR LORD. I LOST MANY YEARS OF SHARING WITH HIM AND REGRET THIS SO MUCH. I JUST LEARNED RECENTLY OF JUST HOW DAD WORKED FOR THE LORD WHEN A MAN THAT WAS COUNCILED BY DAD FOR AN ALCOHOL ADDICTION WAS SAVED. THIS MAN WROTE A BOOK ABOUT HIS RECOVERY AND HOW HIS LIFE AND LOVE OF GOD SAVED HIS LIFE AND HIS MARRIAGE. THE FIRST CHAPTER IS DEDICATED TO MY DAD, THE REVEREND RAYMOND GROSSMAN. KAREN, I CRIED(as I am doing now with this note to you) THIS CHAPTER MADE ME THINK WITH REGRET ALL THE YEARS I LOST NOT HAVING A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH MY DAD. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, THE BAXTERS AND ALL OF YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY OF CHARACTERS

This story breaks my heart. When I die, the Song I Can Only Imagine will be sung at my memorial.

I have read lots of books by Karen Kingsbury. They are all well written and inspiring. This book is only 17 pages. In it she tells about her brother, Dave whom she tries to lead to God. He wants to do things his way and makes lots of bad decisions. Finally in his pain he discovers the song "I Can Only Imagine" which does what Karen never could, bringing him close to Jesus.

I love the way Karen Kingsbury captured the heart of the reader right from the very first word written. We all have a Dave in our lives, but sometimes find it so difficult to acknowledge. Always afraid of how other people will link me to this person who is so different. I could only imagine had i been more patient, understanding of the condition. Heart breaking as it is we only see the true worth of the person when they are no longer here. We see the good in them through the eyes of some-one else.

Astounding that through all Karen's prayers; inspiration, motivation and outpouring of love to Dave, only God could reach Dave when he was ready. God's season and time not our's. Love me for who i am, not for who i sm not.

To some a hug says more than words.

Each time a new Karen Kingsbury book comes out I rush to get it. I can't wait when there is one coming out in a few months or so because I am so anxious to read it. She inspires with her writing and makes you want to be a better person and try to be more like the characters in her books. I have read every book she has written and will continue to purchase them as soon as they are released. I wouldn't think of passing one of her books up. Now tha I have a Kindle, I can go to Amazon more quickly to receive my books than having to run to a book store.

Each and every one of her books are excellent. I have begun to feel as the characters are friends of mine.

I just finished reading this book for the second time. It was the perfect bookend to a series of lessons I've been learning over the past few weeks. Three weeks ago, I witnessed a tragedy. That event showed me thar life is too short to waste it on petty things. So I am trying to make the most of it. Karen encapsulates it so well: live well, learn much, and let Jesus be the hero of your story. I love that threesome. And I've learned that beating someone over the head with the gospel isn't the best way to go about telling someone of their need for salvation. Not that I've done that, but I now have that knowledge that I hope will help me in witnessing to someone who needs to be saved.

This book was pretty short. It just wasn't anything like what Karen normally writes. It is a real life true story about her brother. It took me maybe 20 min to read it. She does encourage the reader to be a Christian to your family even when it's hard and to love the lost even when it gets tough. If you need some encouragement this book is for you. (It is well priced too.)

I would recommend this book to any one looking for a fulfilling life. As always, Mrs. Kingsbury has done an extraordinary job in leading her readers into the life of her written characters. As in all her books, we can relate in some manner or another with either the situations her characters encounter or the characters themselves. The message she portrays and delivers is very powerful which fills your heart with passion, love, redemption, and understanding of life's situations. Once I have her books in my hand, I can not put it down unless I finish reading it and make sure whomever starts reading her books to have a box of tissue along their side because they will definitely need it.
