Bleeding Hearts (The Drake Chronicles) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 110 ratings

The fourth book in the young adult vampire romance series that’s “fun, funny, and a relief from Twilight wannabes” from the author of Out for Blood (Booklist).

As the newly crowned vampire princess, Solange Drake has a lot to get used to—including some new fangs. Her family is also hosting the Blood Moon, a rare gathering, in the forest near their farm, which means Solange’s best friend, the all-too-human Lucy, must keep her distance, whether she wants to or not.

While the Drakes are busy with the party—and keeping a pack of feral vampires at bay—Lucy has her training at the Helios-Ra Academy (aka Vampire–Hunter High) to keep her occupied. And there’s her cousin Christabel, who almost seems to have a personality when her head isn’t buried in a book. But when Christabel is mistaken for Lucy and kidnapped, it becomes clear that someone—or something—wants to hit Solange where it hurts.

No one messes with Connor Drake’s friends and family and gets away with it, especially since Christabel has awoken feelings in him he can’t fight, including the fear that he might not be able to save her . . .

OMG this was absolutely spectacular. I do so adore this series. The first book has been my favorite since I started the series. I am completely in love with Lucy and Nicholas. I know there are alot of fans of this couple and it was great to see that the author has finally gotten that point of view from her fans and has indulged us with them in this new chapter of the series. It looks like from the ending that we received, that we will get to see a great deal more of this couple in the next installment. I am utterly elated by this idea. Ms. Alyxander has completely caught us off guard this time however with the ending. She has never left any of the other books with this kind of ending. So I am hoping she doesn't leave us hanging to long for our next installment.
I have come to a conclusion that this series is, in a way, a better version of Twilight. Were Lucy is the new and totally improved Bella. Damn, she is just the bomb. This last book may have just taken first place with me. It was so exciting. The action in this book was such a page turner that I was done way to soon. Keep up the good work Ms. Alyxander and thank you so much for listening to your fans as is so awesomely displayed in this book. Anxiously waiting for the next, twilightsmaggie.....

If you've read my review on Ruling Passion, you'll already know that I enjoy this series.

This book left me very restless. It had such a surprise ending that I'm biting at the bit for the next book. Alyxandra Harvey is one of my favorite authors.

Wow..cliffhanger, really?! The story was awesome as always though. I love the Drake Chronicles books, not to mention the Drakes themselves :) The bonus story at the end about Liam and Helena when they were younger was really good too.

Source: I own a copy of this book.

Note: These are my personal opinions. I received no outside person comments or opinions.

Let me first start off by saying that I had a hard time liking these new characters--especially the instalove that occurred between Connor and Christabel. And Lucy was a little whiny. But I loved all the romance between Nicholas and Lucy.

Christabel was a really hard character to like. She had no character development. She was the damsel in distress. And then she gets turned into a vampire. Seriously. Where is our strong female heroine that we've had throughout the last three books?

Plot Summary:

Christabel is mistaken for Lucy and kidnapped by the Hel Blar Vampires. They take her hoping it will get the attention of the Drakes and get them a seat on the Council. Well, it gets the attention of one Drake in particular: Connor. He rushes off to save her and in the end gets taken as hostage himself.

But all the while, Solage is battling something of her own. She is using humans as blood whores and is totally distant with Lucy--even ordering her out of her house and using her boy friend against her.

My Reaction:

I thought this book lagged on in some parts. It was really hard to get through this book. I actually set it aside and read (and finished) another book then returned to this one. With the last three books being so stellar I was expecting the same from this one. However, I was disappointed.

Overall, There are good and bad things about binge reading a series. Good thing is never having to wait for a book. Bad thing is being disappointed like this when expectations are so high.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good 4th Book

Bleeding Hearts starts a few months after Out for Blood, in which the blood moon is fast approaching, Lucy is feeling isolated and abandoned by the Drakes and Lucy's cousin Christabel is coming to town

I really liked finding out more about the Hel-Blar and how there society works. I also liked how Lucy is back as a main character and how the past two books has affected as a person.

My favourite character in this book is Connor as I totally get his sense of humour and we like similar stuff as him, as in I get the Firefly and Star Wars references and I read fantasy books because the good guys always win like him.

However I did not connect with Christabel as while we both like reading, I felt all of her characteristics were not realistic and were only there to create obstacles. I also felt no spark between Connor and Christabel as it did not seem they would like each other that way in real life and this was disappointing as this was the relationship I was looking forward to, however Nicholas and Lucy's relationship made up for it.

This book felt a bit like a middle book and end on a cliff-hanger which will make you itch to pick up Blood Moon straight away. I would recommend this book to all who liked the rest of Harvey's books.

Loved this book in the Drake Chronicles. I hope this is the second lol...

Bleeding Hearts goes further than My Love Lies Bleeding, in the fact that it ventures into the POV's of Lucy and Solange, as before, but it also goes for Connor (A Drake brother) and Christabel, Lucy's cousin.

The novel explores more, including the Helios-Ra, Hel-Blar, and a new type of vampire. The author also talks about the Drake family as the 'Royal' family, The Blood Moon, and what happens with Solange after her bloodchange.

Truly amazing book, read if you liked My Love Lies Bleeding!
