He's Always Been the One (Wedding Planners Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 28 ratings

Single mother Maggie Dashwood has no time for distractions. She’s just been promoted from an assistant to a full-fledged wedding planner, and her six-year-old daughter, Harper, keeps her running. So, why do her grandmother and her co-workers insist that she needs a man in her life? After all, a man would do nothing more than to split that precious little bit of free time she manages to snare between weddings and Harper. They might also leave like Harper’s father. Why would she want to risk that? After an accident, her grandmother’s matchmaking eyes hone in on hunky Elliot Martin, an EMT who’s best friends with Maggie’s boss Charlie. As far as her grandmother is concerned, Elliot is flirty, sexy, and an all-around great guy whose singular purpose of wooing Maggie fits perfectly with her plan of finding love for her granddaughter. Meanwhile, Maggie struggles to maintain her equilibrium as well as dry palms when he’s around. When ghosts from Maggie’s past return and threaten her possible happily ever after, will Elliot be the rock she so desperately needs or will he leave like Harper’s father before him?

L. L. Diamond is more commonly known as Leslie to her friends, and Mom to her three kids. A native of Louisiana, she has followed her Air Force husband to duty stations including: Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, England, Missouri, and Maryland.

Aside from mother and writer, Leslie considers herself a perpetual student. She has degrees in biology and studio art but will devour any subject of interest simply for the knowledge. As an artist, her concentration is in graphic design, but watercolor is her medium of choice with one of her watercolors featured on the cover of her second book, A Matter of Chance. She has multiple certifications in fitness and coaching swimming. When she’s not writing, she is Head Age Group coach of her swim team. She also plays flute and piano, but much like Elizabeth Bennet, she is always in need of practice!

    TYPE OF NOVEL: Contemporary Romance

SERIES: Wedding Planners #4 (can be read as a standalone)

THE PREMISE: Recently promoted wedding planner Maggie Dashwood is devoted to many things in her life – her six year old daughter, Harper, her grandmother, who has raised her from a young age, and her job, which she is so very thankful to have. There isn’t really room or time in Maggie’s life for a relationship, and she hasn’t been the most eager to pursue one after Harper’s father left before she was born. But handsome, persistent, and patient Elliot Martin is hoping to change her mind…

    MY THOUGHTS:

For any who are unfamiliar, The Wedding Planners series is a charming and entertaining contemporary series that takes place in Marysville, South Carolina. Each story in this series follows a specific wedding planner, features a swoon-worthy and engaging romance, highlights the beautiful and charming Southern small-town setting, and oftentimes incorporates some themes or parallels with various Jane Austen novels. Book One has some P&P vibes, Book Two some S&S connections, and Book Three echoes some Persuasion themes. However, He’s Always Been the One didn’t seem to have any strong connections or parallels to a specific Jane Austen novel – unless they were subtle ones and I missed them!

I was so happy to see this series continue with Maggie Dashwood and Elliot Martin (two characters that were introduced in previous novels of this series). I loved seeing some diversity represented in this book – Maggie is a BIPOC single mother, who lost her parents at a young age and lives with her grandmother. I admired her so much for her strong self-reliance, level-headedness, and her determination to build a happy life for her daughter all on her own. And Harper is as cute as button, she is completely endearing! I loved seeing a contemporary romance that features the relationships of a child with their parent and their parent’s significant other. The love and bonding featured in this tale is sure to warm your heart.

As always, I love entering this fictional world Ms. Diamond has created in Marysville, SC. I loved encountering all the characters that were previously introduced to us – seeing them on the periphery and witnessing some big moments in their lives. And I loved the new characters that were featured in this tale, my favorites being Gram (I loved her bluntness and active nature) and Giuseppe (the sweetest restaurant owner ever). While I did love Elliot and found him to be such a good and honorable guy (his exchanges with Harper are heart melting), I did wish for a little more depth with his character. He felt like a “picture of perfection” and I wouldn’t have minded seeing some flaws or more complexity with his character.

There were some surprising and intense developments that took place in the latter half of the book. I enjoyed how these events unfolded and witnessing the beautiful and unconditional support of family and community. Ms. Diamond always finds a way to skillfully imbue some serious and/or painful subjects into her stories. I love how she portrays these situations with such realism and sensitivity.

He’s Always Been the One takes readers back to the charming world of Marysville and delivers a heartwarming tale of finding love, happiness, and belonging when you didn’t think it was possible. I adore this series and highly recommend it to any readers who are looking to escape into some captivating and diverting contemporary romances!

NOTE: Since there are a few romantic intimates scenes and uses of strong language, I’d recommend this book for Mature Audiences.

I won a copy of this story during a Blog Tour.

I have read the other stories in this series. However it has been such a long time that I don't remember all the details in the other stories. You can read this as a stand alone but the connection with the other "wedding planners" will not be there.

Maggie Dashwood is a single mother to a 6 year-old daughter, Harper. The father/sperm donor wanted her to have an abortion and thus has never been part of their lives. Maggie and Harper live with Maggie's Gram who helps her by picking up Harper from school and watching her until Maggie can come home from work.

In this story Gram breaks her hip falling due to a rotting patio step. She is taken to the ER and one of the ENTs stays and then checks in after the needed operation the next day. Elliot Martin is known to the family. He has shown interest in Maggie before but she has not dated since having Harper.

This story follows not only their growing relationship but also the appearance of some "ghosts" from the past which threaten their peaceful although busy lives. There are many who know Elliot, Maggie and Harper so we read of how the community supports them through a rough and scary time.

This was a sweet romance enhanced by the addition of a child who is old enough to ask questions and perceive feelings. I even had tears at one point.

Perfect for a short read with great characters and realistic situations. All of these stores have been such fun and I love how all the characters interact with each other. Harper is delightful and Elliott is such a steady, gentleman for these ladies, young and mature.🥰

This is the final book in the wedding planners series and I absolutely loved it. I’ve totally enjoyed every book and reread the others before I started this one!
I love how we catch up with all the other characters and their lives as well as their interaction with this final couple. I can’t praise this series enough, a completely wonderful read and highly recommended!
