This book is full of detailed, well researched information on American quilts from colonial time until 1950. It has sections on dyes, patterns, threads, styles, and all the things you look for when trying to date a quilt.

Clues in the Calico: A Guide to Identifying and dating Antique Quilts is a masterpiece, written by one of the most beloved authors in the quilt history community. This book is available in electronic form, but I think it's well worth it to have a printed copy.

Barbara has a way of writing and describing things to make them interesting, not boring, so we can remember it. I have read the book cover to cover several time and used it for reference many, many times. It's simply the best book for identifying and dating fabrics in quilts, no doubt about it!
