Written in Ink (The Rose Tattoo Trilogy book 2) Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 121 ratings

Everything he has built his life and future on has been torn away.

Cash McCall has loved Dr. Renee Dawson for half his life. Although they’ve talked about a future together, she has never believed it was the right time for them to get engaged. Now she has ended their relationship, and he has no idea why.

Everything Renee worked so hard for is in jeopardy. One agonizing decision has changed everything, and she has been forced to shatter the heart of the man she loves. And her own.

The extremist militant group The Arm is on a mission. Its leader doesn’t care how many innocent lives are lost in the pursuit of the group’s end goal, and Renee has seen something she was not supposed to see.

If Cash can’t get to her in time, Renee could end up in the crosshairs of the terrorists, and he may lose her—and any chance at the life he’d always envisioned—forever.

Suspense, romance, family and tough choices
I really enjoyed book one in "The Rose Tattoo Trilogy" and definitely wanted to read this title which is book two in the series. The books are connected, and I definitely recommend reading book one first. Cash is introduced in book one as the supportive brother, and his growth is readily apparent if you start there. This one tackles the tough topic of abortion. There could definitely be a few triggers for readers. While the author is clearly pro-life, she is also for healing and restoration. Women who have made the decisions to not have their babies do need understanding - there is a recovery process involved. I really appreciated the emphasis on support. Cash was challenged to be there for his former girlfriend. Her cousin and aunt/uncle were willing to be a part of her life no matter the decision. Even the Uber driver wanted to provide help. I do think when we are going through challenging times we need to be there for each other. This is a suspense book with a bit of romance. The reader is provided with several viewpoints, and I like being able to know the motivations behind certain characters. The author does a good job of making it clear who is "leading" each chapter, so there is not any confusion. I read this book through Kindle Unlimited, but I was also a part of a launch team and provided a copy. This title was one I definitely wanted to read and review, and now I am sad that I have to wait over a year for book three. All opinions are my own.

    Written in Ink is a book that shares the devastating affects of the decision to abort a baby and the power of love and forgiveness.
    Renee and Cash must face this very dilemma when Renee finds herself pregnant at the worst possible time. Torn between her love for Cash and her career plans she makes a decision that could destroy so much more than the baby she’s carrying.
    As they navigate their difficulties individually they come to realize that God uses circumstances to bring them closer to Him, and maybe each other.
    I love how the author tugged on my emotions, causing me to empathize with both characters. I was completely invested in the story, practically begging Renee not to go through with the abortion, and hoping Cash could come to a place of complete forgiveness. I felt like I was right there with them.

    Another great story by Sara Davison that has you wrapped up in it from the very beginning as is usual with her books. As usual, she writes about a difficult subject. This story can be so much like real life you almost feel like you’re reading a true story and it can be. It’s a story of the consequences of sin, the repentance of that sin, and the resulting forgiveness of that sin all due to Christ’s death on the cross and the repentance. A story of redemption.
    Side note: it’s a baby, not a fetus. Great message in this book.

    I received this book in advance from the author but the review is honest and my own.

    This was a gripping story. Davison did such a good job of laying out Renee’s arguments for ending her pregnancy. Then layer by layer she begins to see the baby as more than a fetus. At the same time, she learns who Jesus is. There was so much truth in this story. Especially about how no one ever tells these young girls (and not so young) the emotional impact abortion has forever.

    Renee was a compelling character, and so was Cash. Neither Renee nor Cash are Christians at the beginning of the book and it is so rewarding watching them come to know Him. I loved the secondary characters, especially Renee’s cousin and aunt. And the whole McCall clan was back–Jack and Summer from Lost Down Deep.

    Written in Ink
    The Rose Tattoo trilogy#2
    By Sara Davison

    He's given fifteen years of his life, of his love to Renee Dawson when she suddenly calls an end to everything. His hopes and dreams of a forever with her are shattered. She claims that Cash is a distraction she doesn't need in the pursuit of her career, but the truth is something that will shatter him even more.

    Renee has spent her life trying to prove she isn't the failure her father has always made her feel like. She has never had a moment of doubt about Cash McCall's love but she knows when he learns the truth his feelings will change. But the decision is hers alone to make and make it she will.

    But Renee's decision leads directly her into the path of extremists who will do whatever it takes to silence any and all who could stand in the way of their goals. After all, what's one more death when compared to the millions of innocents who have paid the price.

    Now I will admit that this book covered several topics I wasn't expecting from the book description - abortion, pro-life extremists, and premarital sex. Now the topics were presented in a sensitive and thoughtful manner as various characters deal with these issues from differing perspectives. Though not what I was expecting and possibly not one I would have picked up if I had known, it was well written. The characters came across as believable and as people, one could have day-to-day interactions with. This is the second book in the Rose Tattoo Trilogy and it was able to be read as a standalone book. I have not read the previous book and other than some references to events that may have occurred in that book it was easy to follow the story from beginning to end. Overall an excellent and well-presented book.

    I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - All thoughts expressed are my own.

    Thank you for writing a deep novel about forgiveness. We all have things in our lives happen that we need to forgive. My parents did not talk to me for 20 years because I moved 5 hours from home to become a teacher. They didn’t approve of me teaching the severely disabled😢. They did not approve if me marrying a Jewish man who was not college educated and 14 years older than me. In 2009 I was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer. One day while preparing my class for the sub so I could get surgery - my parents walked in. I didn’t recognize them at first. Ling story short- I survived the cancer to all the disbelief of the doctors and I got my family back. I forgave them and felt so much peace and healing.

    A great story full of good characters and suspense. But also a story portraying God’s redemptive work in lives. This is book two of a series but it works fine as a stand-alone. Perfect book for those who enjoy Christian suspense. This book portrays the characters in a way that you feel you know them well. I enjoyed it immensely!

    This book covers the sanctity of life in a sensitive and non-judgmental way. It also reminds us that Jesus forgives us of all our sins so we need to forgive others even for causing us deep pain even if it is more for our own healing than theirs. It touches on the way our decisions and the way we were treated can have a huge impact on others. Life isn’t just about us. Sara also does a wonderful job sharing about Jesus and His unconditional love. This is an excellent book that I suggest to anyone who feels unworthy of love.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impactful

    I thoroughly enjoyed Sara’s new book, Written In Ink. It is the second novel in the Rose Tattoo trilogy and it continues the story set in the quaint, historic village of Elora. The story line was a difficult one, but I know it will bless and encourage all who read it. You will know of someone important to you that you will want to share it with —it will impact their life. They will thank you for it and we are thankful to Sara for having the courage to write it. My book club members stayed up late into the night reading, as they could not put it down.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Plunged Into a Realistic and Personal Drama
    Reviewed in Canada on August 13, 2021
    Right off the bat, Davison’s varied characters stimulated a wide range of emotions in me: empathy and panic, hilarity and curiosity, sorrow and terror and anger and joy. Her primary storyline is gripping, but even her secondary plot engaged me fully. I love how the author ends chapters with actions that insist I read the next few lines. And I laughed out loud at the hilarious scene of two men at a wedding-cake tasting; Davison’s dialogue and timing are, as always, realistic and dead on.

    Many of the author’s one-liners are memorable and deeply reminiscent of points in my own life, such as:
    • that horrid moment of realizing the truth of a relationship: All he did know was that trying to stop what was happening between them was like attempting to close his fingers around a handful of mist;
    • the honesty of a lustful temptress: “What difference does that make? It’s not your brain I’m after”;
    • the descriptions that take me almost physically into the scene: Thick mist rose from the river, shimmering in the faint moonlight as it crept along the stone walls of the gorge;
    • the sudden remorse over past mistakes: Tears dripped onto the table, adding more splotches to the linen cloth. What had she done?

    But the best part for me of reading Written in Ink was how it hammered home that we often go through periods of crisis when we just don’t think straight—we do and say things that are so foreign to who we see ourselves to be. And then later we can’t believe we would ever think or act in that manner. This is the human condition, and I thank God, there's an answer to our dilemma in the end.

    This is a book that will make a difference in the lives of readers. Read it!
