What do you do when the skies in your life turn dark?

There are many struggles in this difficult world that can darken our skies. It may be ongoing health issues, depression/anxiety, relationship struggles, financial calamity and so much more.

Andy Laurie, MD, had seemingly the perfect life. He had a successful medical practice. He was starting a second career as a pastor. He was young and healthy. He had a beautiful, loving wife and four small children. His life could not have been better. It was nothing but blue skies.

Then, the unthinkable hit. He was struck with a devastating illness. The skies of his once-wonderful life became dark, very dark.

Dr. Laurie has been battling illness for nearly two decades. He has now courageously shared his story with you. Relying on nearly thirty years of medical practice and over twenty years in the ministry, Dr. Laurie has written prescriptions for you to find hope, strength, contentment, joy, and even victory when the struggles of life have darkened your blue skies.

Great book by MD Andy Laurie. He was in the prime of his life as a doctor a pastor a husband and father when hit with a terrible illness. This is a must read for anyone that deals with chronic illnesses or if you are in the health field or counseling etc to help better understand not only your patients but for those dealing with the illness whatever it may be how to accept and cope with your life with a different understanding. And although this is based on belief in God even if you don't believe I think it has valuable lessons.

For anyone who has endured your own dark skies for longer than you thought possible. I love to read but don't normally go back to a book for reminders of its wisdom. I expect to go back to THIS book often. Highly recommend!

Dr. Laurie did a great job in this book. It touched my heart . I also used The Canvas Of Life example in the book in my son. He was having a hard time at school with some bullying. I do recommend this book to anyone struggling with chronic illness.

I have a dear friend who is going through something similar and hoped this book might help. I decided to read it before I recommended it, in case it had an underlying negative message. Certainly it could have, given what the author is going through! It is an incredible show of faith that he could write an inspirational book under the circumstances. And it definitely is inspiring! I don't have health issues that compare in any way, yet I gained so much from reading Dr. Laurie's story. Whatever issue is bringing you down and leaving you discouraged, this book will lift you up and change your attitude. I borrowed it with KU but just bought a copy and plan to read it a second time and make notes of the suggestions. And I'll be buying a copy for my friend as well! Thank you for writing When Skies Aren't Blue!

Having met Andy and Cyndi this past year when our vacation travels led us to Ruidoso, I was eager to read this book. Like this amazing couple, I found the wisdom of this book couched in humble, clearly explanatory terms. He is still practicing the medicine so many of us need: physical and spiritual concepts, biblically based and borne out through his own experience. My life is further along the Way for having met him and read this wonderful book!

Pastor Andy does a great job presenting his illness and his walk thru the process of finding solutions, all the while giving God the credit for all the help with plenty of reassuring and appropriate Bible passages and prayers and being able to see who is really behind his problems. Spoiler alert, It’s not God! He is truly a great example of how to live like a Christian with such a terrible disease. His use of “The Pile of Rocks” is such a great reference for how to “see” God’s hand in our daily lives and how to be reminded of these events that we can so quickly and easily forget. When we look at our past obstacles (that pile of rocks) and can see the Glory of God in every one of them, it’s reassuring that God is there guiding us for the next hiccups that come our way.

In this deeply moving and personal book I am truly in awe of the faith and life of the author. How can we learn to have such undying assurance of God's love that will sustain us thru all of the dark hour's of our lives? I honestly pray that God will lead all of our friends and family, as well as myself, to feel and be as close to our Lord as he has become. Please Lord make it possible!
