Into what kind of hell had I emerged from under those ruins?

ELIZABETH BENNET ANTICIPATED NOTHING MORE than a pleasant day among friends and relations when the pleasure trip to the ruins of Bodden chapel commenced. But what began as mere diversion turns frightening when the walls of the ancient church tumble down around them, endangering lives, demolishing pride and propriety, and bringing a hero into focus.

AS THE EARTH BEGINS TO TREMBLE, Fitzwilliam Darcy sees Elizabeth Bennet is in mortal danger and acts on instinct to save her. But when the dust settles, there are unforeseen consequences to his actions, including a serious injury to his eyesight.

I could not be married to a man who could need me the rest of his life, but never love me.

BOUND TOGETHER under the most strained circumstances, Darcy and Elizabeth embark on a future neither one of them saw coming. Time can heal all wounds but will time allow them to see through hearts made clear and eyes no longer blinded by prejudice?

BRONZE IPPY AWARD WINNING AUTHOR

KaraLynne began writing horrible poetry as an angst filled youth. It was a means to express the exhilaration and devastation she felt every time her adolescent heart was newly in love with “the one” and then broken every other week. As her frontal lobe developed, she grew more discerning of both men and writing. She has been married to her own dreamboat of a best friend, Andrew, for almost 20 years. Together they have the migraine inducing responsibility of raising five children to not be dirt bags (fingers crossed), pick of up their socks (still a work in progress), not fight with each other (impossible task) and become generally good people (there’s hope). She loves escaping into a book, her feather babies (the regal hens of Cluckingham Palace), and laughter.

She has written five books and participated in many anthologies including: Falling For Mr. Darcy; Bluebells in the Mourning; Haunting Mr. Darcy: A Spirited Courtship; Yours Forevermore, Darcy; BeSwitched; The Darcy Monologues; Rational Creatures; & Sun-Kissed: Effusions of Summer.

When pride leads to stubborn self-deception
Will she be able to shred her blinders …Like last time, I have just read two P&P variations in a raw, but both could not have been much different.I am not sure I liked this Elizabeth, far away from the renowned clever witty creature because of her injured pride, she is senseless to the point of being damagingly prejudiced against the man who saved her. She is harsh, selfish and at time mean, easily angered and while still with sight, blind to everything outside herself and her own comfort, mindless and careless about her own rudeness. So much she borders bad manners and transfers her ire on Darcy. She is such a weird creature, seeing first the worth before the good or misinterpreting things under the poorer light instead of taking time to analyze them.In fact she is quite a coward, she wants to keep going, so much she holds onto her dislike for Darcy like a drowning person to a buoy, as their fates were intertwined, she should instead be looking for to regard him under a different light, but not, she hides in plain sight when he can’t see her. But acknowledging she had been wrong about the man who makes her heart flutter, would concede her own ill placed pride and conceit. It is why her change of sentiments appears even more greater, as she hung for so long to her loathing against the man who saved her to finally fall in love with him, quite a long journey.Mr Darcy is still the proud man is was prior to his injury, he is not flawless but he at least tries to mend his relationship with Elizabeth, she just deaf to it and is the one holding back, keeping him at bay, refusing his extended hand.I read a review about this book being full of angst, outside mine against Elizabeth as I would have bashed her head a few times, it is more the tale of a young woman who struggles to become an adult, throwing tantrums and misinterpreting what she has eavesdropped instead to rationally analyzing the facts.4 stars𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 kisses

A unique forced marriage scenario with an engrossing and painfully descriptive opening of a landslide that had me trapped, right there, alongside Elizabeth and Darcy beneath the collapsed rocks and earth of the Bodden Chapel ruins. Darcy has seconds to realize the probability of Elizabeth’s impending death and leaps to cover and shield her, taking the brunt of the falling rock. The results give us a Darcy made unusually vulnerable by physical blindness from a blow to the head and the relief of an honor forced decision to offer marriage, and an Elizabeth, courage rising, giving and taking comfort from Darcy while entrapped, who then manages to give her headstrong ‘blindness’ a good run and is too stubborn by far. As they are carried through the aftermath, a slow burn realization of affection simmers between them while the author’s rendition keeps them anchored in their canon characteristics and regency norms. As Elizabeth works through the tumult of her mind, we come to discover the attraction that she has held, albeit unconsciously, for Darcy from their first meeting. Letting us feel a bit of Elizabeth’s innate kindness and compassion and her attraction for Darcy just peek out, only to be pulled down the doubt and misunderstanding rabbit hole that Elizabeth falters into yet again.

While the story focuses on Elizabeth and Darcy and their overcoming quite the trauma on a path to HEA, the character and actions of Colonel Fitzwilliam and Georgiana, Jane, Bingley, Mr Bennet, Collins, and even that of Caroline Bingley ring true given the story’s premise. As usual, Wickham gives rise to angst, but his machinations are dealt with swiftly and with some satisfaction.

KaraLynne Mackrory has written some of the most memorable, shiver inducing renditions of Fitzwilliam Darcy I have ever read. This one adds another to my memory to revisit and savor. His fascination and caress of a wayward curl at Elizabeth’s neck will spark my swoon imaginings for some time to come. Highly recommend, along with every one of her previous works!

I almost decided not to like this book. Not because of the writing - this author is wonderfully talented, and has crafter a creative , beautifully romantic tale. My problem lies with stories that are told exclusively from the POV of Elizabeth. She is a beloved and admirable character, but her blindness and prejudice with regards to Darcy can be extremely annoying, and downright frustrating, and when the story is presented in the first person narrative style of that impossibly obtuse girl, well, it sometimes sets my teeth on edge.

Elizabeth and Darcy are caught in a landslide that traps them underground for a time, and as a result, they're compromised and required to marry. Elizabeth doesn't like Darcy very much, and to make matters worse, Darcy loses his sight from a blow to the head during the accident. The story reveals how they each recover from their traumatic experience, and how they learn to accept their shared fate.

As usual, Darcy is secretly pleased to be forced into marriage with Elizabeth, and he bends over backwards to improve her opinion of him. Elizabeth's infernal stubbornness in the face of all his efforts is enough to induce screaming, and there were many times I wanted to shake her. Her attitude and behavior sometimes bordered on cruelty. Fortunately, she eventually realizes her selfishness, and gradually comes around. Meanwhile, we're given the great gift of a swoon worthy Darcy. The man is amazing. He's been blinded by the accident, and yet he pulls off the most romantic scenes, ones that will make you want to read this book again. I changed my mind about the book because of Darcy. He's fabulous.

I love this uthor. She knows how to develop a plot, and populate it with characters that you can care about. You should read the book just for how she handles Caroline Bingley and Mr Collins, if nothing else. It's very well written and well edited. I recommend it highly.

P&P told again except Darcy’s role and Lizzy’s role are often reversed.

SPOILERS FOLLOW

Lizzy and Darcy are trapped together in a cave-in and barely survive. The role reversal starts after Lizzy takes a large swig of Darcy’s brandy from a flask. This is the symbolic beginning of the role reversal. As we all know, Darcy usually drinks copious amounts of brandy in JAFF tales. Darcy is blind which gives him the role of powerless that Lizzy usually has, being a Regency era female.

Lizzy begins to start to have guilty thoughts for no good reason, misunderstands everything around her like Darcy usually does and goes in and out of depression like Darcy usually does.

Watching how the author portray Our Dear Couple with switched roles is so very entertaining. The colonel is there to help explain things to Lizzy like a brother would like he usually explains things to Darcy, like a brother.

All in all I thought the role reversal was handled brilliantly. Being a female Lizzy couldn’t tale the role of solving all the problems but she had most of the emotional angst Darcy usually dies and she. Ould help Darcy through his blindness.

Very original, very fun.

While visiting an old chapel with a group of friends, Darcy and Elizabeth are buried after the chapel collapsed. Both are injured and when they are found, it is evident that Darcy isn't able to see. Because of the time spent together entrapped Darcy and Elizabeth are forced to wed, it does not matter that they don't like each other. While their injuries heal they get to know each other better. Can they overcome their prejudice against each other or will they continue to be blind for the the love of their life?

The book of the author Karalynne Mackrory is well written in Elizabeth's point of view. This means we get to know the story only from her but she also tells us her thoughts and her innermost feelings. Darcy's point of view might have been interesting, too, but the book is nevertheless very good.

In this book Darcy is very vulnerable. He normally is a man of action. Because of his blindness he is dependent on others and needs their help. He also struggles very much because he can't capture all aspects of Elizabeth's feelings and meanings. I like this version of Darcy. I have the feeling to see more of the real Darcy without disguise, a loving man who wants to be loved in return, but because of himself and not because of his status in life. A man who struggles as everybody, who tries to make everything right but fails from time to time. I really like that.

I also like the love which develops slowly. That they are, because of Darcy's injuries, forced to proceed slowly and this means they can talk. They need to care for each other. There are nevertheless misunderstandings but they have to deal with them. Besides, there are no true villains in the book which keep Darcy and Elizabeth apart, this time prejudices on both sides are the cause.
I also like that in this story there are also only supportive relatives who are favourable of the union between Darcy and Elizabeth and who encourage them to fight further for an unterstanding and their love.

And I like the fate of Carline Bingley in this book very much. Something one had not thought of at the beginning 😉

I really recommend this book. If you like a vulnerable Darcy and a Elizabeth blinded by her prejudice, this book is for you!

A beautiful book to be read again and again, Darcy at his loving best, Elizabeth learning to love him and the rest of the well known characters slightly changed but receeding into the background where they belong. I will not mention any details but am sure you will enjoy the book immensely.

K. Mackory is a clever and talented author but I have mixed feelings about this variation. The plot is interesting and I like this Darcy but I couldn't like this thick, dimwitted Elizabeth. Misunderstandings should never go that far, even for the sake of the story. Still worth a read though, better than many variations out there.

I loved this from start to finish. The story, the variation plot, the sensitive handling of the subject, had me enthralled from the get go.
I loved Darcy and Elizabeth. Their growing feelings, the sweet moments they share, everything about this story was adorable and romantic.

I enjoyed this even though Lizzy took her time understanding. Plenty of romance and humour to please readers and Caroline’s domestic bliss achieved (haha worth reading for that). Recommended.
