Her best friend is murdered the same way her brother was years ago. Is there anyone she can possibly trust?

A decade ago, Delaney Broward discovered her brother’s murdered body at the San Antonio art co-op he founded with friends. Her artist boyfriend, Hunter Nash, went to prison for the murder, despite his not-guilty plea.

This morning, Hunter walks out of prison a free man, having served his sentence.

This afternoon, Delaney finds her best friend dead, murdered in the same fashion as her brother.

Stay out of it or you’re next, the killer warns.

Hunter never stopped loving Delaney, though he can’t blame her for not forgiving her. He knows he’ll get his life back one day at a time, one step at a time. But he’s blindsided to realize he’s a murder suspect. Again.

When Hunter shows up on her doorstep asking her to help him find the real killer, Delaney’s head says to run away, yet her heart tells her there’s more to his story than what came out in the trial. An uneasy truce leads to their probe into a dark past that shatters Delaney’s image of her brother. She can’t stop and neither can Hunter—which lands them both in the crosshairs of a murderer growing more desperate by the hour.

In this gripping romantic suspense, Kelly Irvin plumbs the complexity of broken trust in the people we love—and in God—and whether either can be mended.

Review

'In this whirlwind romantic thriller from Irvin (Closer Than She Knows), a convicted murderer and his ex-girlfriend revisit the crime that tore them apart . . . Irvin follows the characters through twists and turns, writing through the lens of faith and broken faith, while illuminating a bridge across shattered relationships to second chances. This one's an emotional roller-coaster.' -- Publishers Weekly

Best-selling novelist Kelly Irvin's latest Amish romance, Every Good Gift, debuted in February 2023. The third novel in the Amish Blessings series takes place in Yoder and Haven, Kansas. The series takes a look at adoption in Amish communities. The first book, Love's Dwelling, won second place in the Selah Awards contest in the long contemporary romance category. The series follows the Amish of Sky Country series, which featured Amish communities in Northwest Montana affected by wildfires that destroyed thousands of acres in the state in recent years. The first book, Mountains of Grace, debuted in August 2019, and delves into the impact on not only an Amish man and woman, but also a smoke jumper, a sheriff's deputy, and a young English woman forced to confront her past because of the fires.

Kelly also writes romantic suspense novels. Her most recent forays into this genre include Trust Me, Her Every Move and Closer Than She Knows, all set in San Antonio and South Texas. Publishers Weekly says of Closer Than She Knows, "this brisk, smoothly written thriller from Irvin pits court reporter Teagan O’Rourke, a murder mystery lover, against a cunning and vicious serial killer. Fans of serial killer fiction with a Christian slant will be satisfied."

Of Tell Her No Lies, The Library Journal says, "Irvin creates a complex web with enough twists and turns to keep even the most savvy romantic suspense readers guessing until the end. Known for her Amish novels, this two-time Carol Award finalist shows that her talents span subgenres from tranquil Amish stories to rapidly paced breathless suspense.”

Kelly is also the author of the Every Amish Season series, which included four books that chronicle the lives of Amish widows who are in different seasons in their lives. These women are linked by life altering experiences that bring them together as wives, mothers, and grandmothers in the small town of Jamesport, Mo. The first book, Upon a Spring Breeze, received critical acclaim from the Library Journal: "A moving and compelling tale about the power of grace and forgiveness that reminds us how we become strongest in our most broken moments."

Kelly Irvin is also the author of The Amish of Bee County series, which includes the critically acclaimed The Beekeeper's Son. Publishers Weekly called the first book in the series a beautifully woven masterpiece and Romantic Times Magazine called Kelly a storyteller extraordinaire. It was followed by The Bishop's Son and The Saddle Maker's Son, which is an ECPA bestseller.

A two-time ACFW Carol finalist, Kelly's novellas have been included in numerous anthologies, including An Amish Summer, The Amish Christmas Gift, An Amish Market, an Amish Christmas Love, and Amish Quilt, An Amish Reunion, An Amish Picnic, and An Amish Christmas Bakery.

She also penned the Bliss Creek Amish series and the New Hope Amish series, both published by Harvest House Publishers. Love Still Stands, the first book in the New Hope series, debuted in September 2012, and the follow-up, Love Redeemed, released March 1, 2014. The final book in the series, set in Branson, MO., was A Plain Love Song, released in July 2014.

The Bliss Creek Amish series, set in Kansas, includes To Love and to Cherish, A Heart Made New, and Love's Journey Home.

In the New Hope series, familiar characters from Bliss Creek move to Missouri to start a new district and a new life.

A Good Read
Hunter Nash is a free man. He has been released from prison after serving ten years for the murder of his best friend. He has maintained his innocence throughout and is determined to prove his innocence and regain the trust of some of those closest to him. The one person he really wants to reconnect with is Delaney Broward, his former girlfriend and his best friend’s sister. He lost everything when he went to prison, but in there he found God. Delaney Broward has experienced much loss in her life. Both of her parents were killed in a car accident, her brother was murdered, and the love of her life committed the murder. Why would God allow this to happen? She has turned her back on God. On the same day that Hunter is released from prison, her best friend, Ellie, is murdered in the same way as her brother. Another loss in Delaney’s life, but this loss Delaney will avenge. She is determined to find the killer. Hunter makes some good points as to his innocence and Delaney begins to think he might have been wrongly imprisoned, but she still has doubts. She reluctantly teams up with Hunter in their mutual search to find the person or persons responsible for killing her brother and her best friend. As they get close to the truth, they must be careful in whom they place their trust. I figured out the culprit fairly early on, but I was hoping there would be an unexpected twist that would surprise me. There wasn’t, but the story was still a good read. The story needed a faster pace to earn five stars from this reviewer as it slowed down after Ellie’s murder. It did pick up, and there was a pretty good climactic scene toward the end of the novel. I did like Hunter’s new-found faith and how he showed his faith in his actions, even when tempted to react as he used to.

This is the first book, I have read by this author. She kept me guessing to the identity of the murderer.

This book was truly captivating, drawing me in and holding my attention until the very end. Although I didn't develop a strong affection for the female lead and was able to uncover the true villain with relative ease, it didn't detract significantly from the overall story. In fact, I found it to be a worthwhile read that will undoubtedly engross other readers.

How do you deal with lies and deceit from someone who is suppose to be your friend, someone who robbed you of ten years of your life, someone who took the lives of a loved one and a close friend? Only with God’s help. I loved the characters in this story. Their pain was felt so deeply. The author did a nice job with this story.

Complex plot and characters. I enjoyed this book because of the good writing and the fact that the characters weren't trite repeats of so many we see today. For me, the plot bogged down some in the middle, but this might be due to the over-attention to what the characters were feeling., what is called deep POV can sometimes get too deep!

Difficult for me to review because personally I didn't like the San Antonio setting nor the artsy characters. So, that's just me and not a reflection on the writer. However, I did find the conversations too wordy. I would give up and skim over many of the conversations. The main female character was annoying, immature for her 30 some years. The story which was billed as a mystery leaned too heavily on the romantic . The mystery was lacking and not developed well.. An only average novel at best.

Kelly Irvin has a real winner in Trust Me. I will say up front that it is Christian fiction, and her characters talk about and struggle with their faith openly. It’s an integral part of the story. If that isn’t your jam, then this may not be the right read for you (good romantic thriller though it is!).

Now, if you enjoy a story that includes faith and the ups and downs of living it out, read on! It’s set in San Antonio, and while I’m a Louisiana girl, I lived in Texas for a bunch of years. It will always have a piece of my heart, and I love stories that are set there.

Delaney Broward lived through the trauma of discovering her brother Corey dead in his art studio ten years ago. Her boyfriend, Hunter Nash, went to prison for the crime. So imagine her shock when she not only finds her best friend, Ellie Hill, brutally slain (and gets herself attacked in the process), but learns that Hunter has been released from prison that same day. Hunter is quickly bumped up to the top of the suspect list for Ellie’s murder, and Delaney doesn’t know what to think.

Delaney lost her faith in God when Corey was killed and Hunter was convicted of the murder. Hunter found his faith in God within the prison walls, and through the assistance of the prison chaplain, he’s found himself a job now that he’s out. He’s trying to convince Delaney that he’s innocent of Corey’s murder, both to clear himself and to restore her faith. She reluctantly agrees to work with him, and they go poking under some serious rocks and digging in some dark corners to uncover the truth, putting themselves in danger in the process.

Irvin writes believable characters. Hunter is intent on clearing himself, as you would expect an innocent man to be. Delaney is hesitant to open herself up to hurt, to letting the man she loved and lost back into her heart. Hunter’s mother is an absolute jewel and responds to him the way I’d hope I would if it were one of my boys in a similar situation. His siblings are realistic, some good, some annoying as all get out. You can tell a lot of thought went into each character’s personality and characteristics to make sure they fit their role in the story.

It’s a well-paced story, too. The suspense builds and moves along at a good pace, without any bits that drag. It kept me guessing, too. I’d think I’d figured out the killer, and then something would happen that I didn’t see coming, and I was back to square one. Then the big reveal had my jaw on the floor. It was stunning to me, and I love stories that can surprise me at the end!

The only thing that rubbed me wrong just a bit was the fact that Delaney let Hunter stay anywhere near her when he showed up unexpectedly at her house. I’m reasonably confident that, in that situation, I would have been all, oh, HAIL, no, and I am on the phone to 911 just as fast as I can be. Or maybe not. I’ve never been in that situation, after all, still attracted to the man convicted of killing my brother, and said man is swearing he didn’t. I worked my way past it and enjoyed the book all the same!

This is a thoroughly enjoyable read, and the title is apt. The story focuses heavily on trust lost, and the process of rebuilding that trust. There’s tension, and action, and danger, and romance, and humor, all of which combine to make this a five-star read for me.

This is Irvin’s first Christian thriller, and I hope she writes more in this genre. I am here to read all of them! Scroll down and enter the giveaway, and you can WIN an autographed paperback copy!
