The Thicket: A Thriller Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 3,487 ratings

Everyone will hear. No one will listen.

Norah's world shatters when a visit to the Thicket, a fall carnival, turns deadly. One of the victims is her younger brother, Brandon. She left him alone in the wooded maze—and that’s the last place she saw him alive.

When the Thicket reopens amidst a storm of media attention, Norah becomes obsessed with the idea of unraveling what really happened the night Brandon died. But the carnival holds more than just traumatic memories: A killer, whose victims were at first mistaken for macabre props, is still on the loose. And throngs of thrill-seekers are still eagerly lining up to purchase tickets.

As Norah retraces her brother’s steps through the wooded maze, she begins to suspect that the killer's choice of hunting ground is no coincidence. And that the nightmare is far from over.

I really enjoyed this one. The setting was really cool. Reading it felt like watching a good horror movie. This was my second book by this author, and I will definitely be checking out more of her books.

A monster hidden behind a familiar medieval plague doctor mask blends into the Thicket making it easy to murder. The killer is excited to watch the news report share with families about his work. Local parents banned anyone wearing the plague bird mask. Some have petitioned to close the Thicket. Authorities say it’s a one time incident and with increased security and more awareness they can provide a safe place in the Thicket eventhough the killer hasn’t been found.

Noelle W. Ihli knows how to capture her audiences attention. I’m spooked just thinking about these gory scenes. Now I’m not sure I can visit a haunted house in the near future or a corn maze. I’m forever ruined. Noelle W. Ihli writes with perfect clarity. I was in the scene in cabin twelve and the old mill witnessing the murders and smelling the fried dough in the plaza. It played out like a movie in my mind. It’s stunning how she writes these words that brings these stories to life. I’m a forever fan with only having read three books.

Wherever she gets her concepts or ideas from certainly is working for her. I’ve never read anything like these stories. These are genuine storylines fully explained with originality and uniqueness. My mind is blown away by the attention to detail when writing those haunting scenes.

Noelle W. Ihli taps into scary details superbly. She captures the essence of fear within the characters as well as the readers with amazing insight and talent. She’s a top notch writer with crazy wicked writing skills.

I promise you this is a scary AF read. It’s a dark cold place where it’s easy for a killer to hide and wait for his victim to arrive. The fear is tangible with the reality that it’s real what is happening. If this were a movie I would watch with the lights on. I’m a big chicken when it comes to horror films and let me tell you this one will rattle your bones and give you nightmares.

Slow to start but a good heart racer at the end. Def a little more detailed than I wanted in the beginning but it was a good ending

Noelle Ihli’s “The Thicket” is a slasher film lovers dream in the form of a book. A quick read about a Halloween hotspot that turns deadly, you get gruesome deaths, a menacing masked murderer, angsty final girls and a quiet town rocked by tragedy. It’s straight-forward without much depth, but neither are any of our favorite horror films or books centered on the concept of a night of terror. I came for the scares, the screams and the quick pacing and Ihli delivered.

The book gives us multiple perspectives from a victim, a group of girlfriends and the killer. Many of our characters are angsty teens— emotional and horny and up to such antics like brooding over boys, drinking and gossiping. Given the slasher formula, they are doomed. A couple of them have their head on a bit straighter than others—including Norah, who is grieving her brother’s death. It’s fun to predict who may or may not survive. We also get into the head of our killer. I don’t always love when this happens because I think it takes the scare factor down a notch. Once we are in his head it humanizes him and he becomes less scary. I loved the concept of a haunted forest/camp site turned deadly. It’s the perfect setting for a horror story and Ihli does a great job of setting up the scenes with vivid details. You go into this knowing what you’re going to get and I won’t fault it for a lack of depth—it’s a slasher story and while it’s a good one, it definitely lacks layers. It’s exactly as to be expected—the perfect slasher horror formula with new, interesting characters and an epic setting. I’d love to see a book to film adaption. 3.5 stars.

It was intense and I didn’t want to put it down. Please consider reading this if you’re in the mood for a thrill. I just read it, in May, might re-read again in October when it takes place. Surely that will be enough time to pass to be able to re-enjoy it without remembering the whole story.

This book is like a really scary movie!!!!!! It took me days to read because I could only read a few pages at a time!!! I could picture everything!! Terrifying!!!!!

This was a great read. There's a great ending, even though there's an unexpected result with one of the characters. In the end result, I would suggest and of Noelle Ihli's books to anyone for a great mystery/ thriller read. My library only had one of her books, Run on Red. I'm going to suggest they bring in all of her books. Now I'm going to read her latest book, Gray After Dark. I'm sure it will be just as good as the others.

The story went basically as expected and concluded with an ending that’s meant to be a thrilling cliffhanger but fell flat.

A suspense horror with a compelling narrative. Engaging characters, with a route to the mind of a killer. I read this book in one sitting, willing the protagonist to find the answers. Recommended.

I'd strongly recommend this to any fans of slashers. Lots of books try to capture that genre so well seen in movies, but few have managed to actually do it.
I'm gonna be reading every book by this author.

This was an easy going read, but a bit horror-by-numbers, and the characters felt very generic.

A passable enough book if you're a fan of the genre.
