The Thicket: A Thriller Kindle Edition
Everyone will hear. No one will listen.
Norah's world shatters when a visit to the Thicket, a fall carnival, turns deadly. One of the victims is her younger brother, Brandon. She left him alone in the wooded maze—and that’s the last place she saw him alive.
When the Thicket reopens amidst a storm of media attention, Norah becomes obsessed with the idea of unraveling what really happened the night Brandon died. But the carnival holds more than just traumatic memories: A killer, whose victims were at first mistaken for macabre props, is still on the loose. And throngs of thrill-seekers are still eagerly lining up to purchase tickets.
As Norah retraces her brother’s steps through the wooded maze, she begins to suspect that the killer's choice of hunting ground is no coincidence. And that the nightmare is far from over.

Noelle W. Ihli knows how to capture her audiences attention. I’m spooked just thinking about these gory scenes. Now I’m not sure I can visit a haunted house in the near future or a corn maze. I’m forever ruined. Noelle W. Ihli writes with perfect clarity. I was in the scene in cabin twelve and the old mill witnessing the murders and smelling the fried dough in the plaza. It played out like a movie in my mind. It’s stunning how she writes these words that brings these stories to life. I’m a forever fan with only having read three books.

Wherever she gets her concepts or ideas from certainly is working for her. I’ve never read anything like these stories. These are genuine storylines fully explained with originality and uniqueness. My mind is blown away by the attention to detail when writing those haunting scenes.

Noelle W. Ihli taps into scary details superbly. She captures the essence of fear within the characters as well as the readers with amazing insight and talent. She’s a top notch writer with crazy wicked writing skills.

I promise you this is a scary AF read. It’s a dark cold place where it’s easy for a killer to hide and wait for his victim to arrive. The fear is tangible with the reality that it’s real what is happening. If this were a movie I would watch with the lights on. I’m a big chicken when it comes to horror films and let me tell you this one will rattle your bones and give you nightmares.
The book gives us multiple perspectives from a victim, a group of girlfriends and the killer. Many of our characters are angsty teens— emotional and horny and up to such antics like brooding over boys, drinking and gossiping. Given the slasher formula, they are doomed. A couple of them have their head on a bit straighter than others—including Norah, who is grieving her brother’s death. It’s fun to predict who may or may not survive. We also get into the head of our killer. I don’t always love when this happens because I think it takes the scare factor down a notch. Once we are in his head it humanizes him and he becomes less scary. I loved the concept of a haunted forest/camp site turned deadly. It’s the perfect setting for a horror story and Ihli does a great job of setting up the scenes with vivid details. You go into this knowing what you’re going to get and I won’t fault it for a lack of depth—it’s a slasher story and while it’s a good one, it definitely lacks layers. It’s exactly as to be expected—the perfect slasher horror formula with new, interesting characters and an epic setting. I’d love to see a book to film adaption. 3.5 stars.
