A Summer Classic: The Bew White Story Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 25 ratings

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” - 1 Corinthians 13:7

Every ambitious young man and woman would do well to read this book; seasoned businessmen and women will recognize something of their own successes and failures in a life that has had as many ups and downs as a turbulent stock market; and wives will see their own husbands in these pages as well as their own frustrations with the men they love. We can only hope they possess the character of Bew’s wife, Wendy, whose own story leavens this loaf. Astute readers will deduce that she is the quiet, unassuming anchor that gives this narrative its heartbeat.”

This is classic Bew White. Funny. Unpredictable. Jarringly honest. He’s also abrupt, politically incorrect, amusing, forgiving, occasionally (and unintentionally) offensive, unexpectedly gracious, and a fundamentally decent human being.

This is not the story of a man’s straight-line success of going from rags to riches. As one of Bew’s friends observed, “Bew started life on third base.” Indeed, he did. Knowing more than most about his own ancestors, Bew White is descended from an aristocracy of sorts. Even so, his story is a zigzag. If he started on third, mistakes and misfortunes would send him back to second and first bases. Undaunted, he kept swinging and pursuing his own version of the American Dream.

Review

“Bew’s story is a great read for anyone looking to start their own business!” --―Richard E. Simmons III, author of the bestseller, The True Measure of a Man

“Bew puts in the work! Whether it's his career, his marriage and family or his friends, he is diligent about making the effort and appreciative of the result. He’s also very generous with his blessings. And, he doesn’t let hardship slow him down. In this book you’ll discover all of this in his journey and it will make you think about your life and how “present” you are each day.” --―Michael Young, actor, producer & director

“In this book, Billy Bew White shares the experiences of a man who has known success and failure. I highly recommend it to any young, ambitious businessman who thinks that all he needs is financial success to find happiness. Bew’s life, like that of King Solomon, says otherwise. As his friend, I am proud of Bew and the life lessons one finds in these pages.” --―Larry Alex Taunton, author, columnist, and executive director of the Fixed Point Foundation

A Summer Classic: The Bew White Story
by: Christopher Taunton

This autobiography is very well written and very interesting. It has humor, encouragement,
and entreprenuership throughout. The book starts out a little slow and becomes quite
interesting as the author gets more into the life of Bew White. The book tells of Bew's
college life and the ups and downs of a College student. It is beautiful success story.
The author really tells the story of a College student turned highly successful businessman.
The story takes you through the challenges Bew faced from his years at Auburn University
to his years as a business owner. As you read the book, you can see alot of the successes and
failures that Bew went through to reach his goals. The writer really guides you through the
life of Bew White. The failures Bew had only made him a better and stronger businessman.
He was able to take a small Furniture Company and turn it into a large success story.
The author writes about the good and bad in Bew's life. He perservered through hard work
and dedication. The writer keeps the reader's attention through out the book by staying in
chronilogical order through Bew's life. The author did great job of entertaining the audience
with his to the point details. I would recommend this book for all ages. If you are starting a
business or looking for a little motivational to get started, this would be a good read. The
is very entertaining and hard to put down, once you start reading it.

This was really a good read. The author’s writing style flowed so easily it was hard to put the book down. While a lot of the subject matter just didn’t seem like it would be very interesting the author made it so easy to follow and not dull at all.
The timeline and events were easy to follow. Every part of the story was created in great detail. The characters and events truly came to life. It was easy to place myself right in the middle of the storyline. Events were well described and the timeline flowed. The characters were well developed and easy to conjure an image.
The imagery of various settings came to life right before my eyes. Bew and his wife Wendy were likeable characters. The writer did a great job developing their characters from young and in love college students to maturing throughout the decades of their life. The book was as much a story of their love for each other as it was of Bew business aspirations.
While not exactly a tale of rags to riches, as Bew did come from a rather well to do, southern, old money family, it was definitely a tale of pulling oneself up by the boot straps and trudging ahead through the trials and pitfalls. While Bew’s family name did offer connections to get him off to a good start it was his own keen business sense and hard work which brought his many endeavors where they are today.
This was a tale of love and sacrifice and much hard work along the way. As tenacious as Bew was in his in business , Wendy was just as tenacious raising their children and running their home. In the end Bew came to realize it’s really all about those you love.

A Summer Classic: The Bew White Story
By Christopher Taunton came up in my recommendations somehow and I had no idea what it was even about! I was thinking, “who the heck is Bew White?” but when I read the synopsis it seemed like it would be a good little biography and the reviews seemed promising, so I went for it.

The book follows the life of Bew White, obviously, who turns out to be the founder of Summer Classics outdoor furniture. My love of a good biography or basic life story, combined with my love for furniture and design really had me loving this storyline. The other part of this book that really appealed to me personally, is that you get to read and imagine the life of Bew White during the building of his business. You learn his story from the beginning of everything.

The storyline was so good; it was interesting, enjoyable to read, easy-to-follow, had me laughing and feeling sad throughout… it was just a good read overall! The love story, the faithfulness of his wife was incredible, her belief in him and his ability to do what he set out to do, the way that she stood by him through everything, it was inspirational to say the least. As someone building a business, I could only hope to be as strong as Bew, and to have someone as strong next to me too, helping me along the way and believing in me and my vision.

I also really enjoyed reading about how his company survived times that shut a lot of companies down, he watched a lot of people who should have been able to make it through a recession close their business doors while Summer Classics was able to stay open and thrive.

I think this book was a beautiful, inspirational story about love, business, support, how to manage things properly. It was really a great read, I would recommend it!
