Blotto, Twinks and the Rodents of the Riviera Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 70 ratings

A pair of aristocratic siblings chase art thieves to the French Riviera only to find more trouble in this humorous historical mystery.

In yet another installment of the Blotto, Twinks series, his very funny parody of the golden age of mystery, Simon Brett sends his heroes to the French Riviera of the 1920s. Someone has stolen valuable paintings from Tawcester Towers, ancestral home of Blotto (the future Duke of Tawcester) and his sister, Twinks. Blotto is content to run around in a (handsome) sweat, cursing the thieving varlets and vowing revenge, but Twinks, rather more pragmatically, tracks the varlets to France. She and Blotto, accordingly, go zipping off to Paris—where they have rather a jolly time with the Left Bank bohemian set—but before the hangovers can take hold Twinks has redirected the search to the Riviera, headquarters of that dastardly criminal mastermind, La Puce! Will the noble Blotto and the brilliant Twinks recover their paintings, vanquish La Puce, and rescue the kidnapped film star I neglected to mention?
Mesdames et messieurs, place your bets.

This series by Simon Brett is a lot of fun for any lover of the cozy mystery. I think Brett exploits, in a good way, the conventions of the cozy and from the start of any of the books you know you're in for a good time; very lighthearted and silly in a wonderful way. The pace of the books is fast and you'lll find yourself enjoying the characters more and more as you get into the series (and find yourself just as upset as Blotto when his best cricket bat disappears)!

This book is in keeping with the rest of the Blotto and Twinks stories. It is quite silly but a light read. The characters are funny if improbable and the plot moves along at a good clip. Probably not a good book for everyone, but if you like Simon Brett's cynical humor and the Fethering type mysteries, you will likely enjoy this one.

One of the very best Mystery series writers in the modern era. Check out some of his other series and well done.

waaay over the top in silliness. Like P. G. Wodehouse at Bertie Wooster's worst, with the habit of privilege assumed.

This is the third Blotto & Twinks book in the series and I think they are hilarious. I have laughed out loud at the names of the characters and have started using some of the silly phrases, me old pineapple. I am now embarking on the 4th book in the series. How much longer can Blotto evade being married off? How much more can Twinks' reticule hold? Carry on Simon Brett. Brilliantly silly.

Not overly keen on this and the other 2 books in the series that I bought. Just seemed a bit silly and OTT to me.

I really love the series, how can anyone be as daft as Blotto. But it always comes to a fabulous climax and he always wins the day.
