Bell takes us on an unexpected adventure in the most unusual locations within Galactic Fun Park. Engaging characters and immersive scenes offer the reader a true journey filled with laughter and tears. Galactic Fun Park is not only an entertaining read but a wonderful introduction of teamwork and empathy to young readers. A great ride for the entire family to share together! -American Coaster Enthusiasts
Bell's prose is buoyant over the course of this novel, and she fleshes out the world of the park with rich detail, as in a description of one of its main attractions, the ZenithTarium: "The raccoons who lived in the area revered the planetarium-like theater with its sleek steel walls and rocket-styled seats." -Kirkus Reviews

So, let’s go for the pluses.
For starters, it’s well written and edited. The author and her editor(s) if she used any, did a bang-up job, so to speak, on that. The writing is straightforward and easy to understand. Galactic Fun Park, after all, is intended for young adults. I'd say it's suited for older readers too, because as straightforward as the prose is, it will no doubt still present a challenge for many.
How so? While the storyline is not difficult to follow, it is a slow grind, and there are many characters. It takes a while before you find out what is they’re up against, what do they have to face in order to give the story it’s umph.
Trying to keep up with which name belongs to which creature among an alliance of cockroaches, cats, rats, squirrels, racoons, opossums, and other creatures for whom Galactic Fun Park is home is a challenge. The author, I am sure, was well aware of this, so at the beginning of each chapter, she has clip art of an animal to help the reader realize say Chapter 1 will be about the raccoons, whereas Chapter 2 introduces the rats, and so on. Chapter 3 focuses on the cockroaches, so she has clip art of a roach at the beginning of that chapter.
However, the overall message of the story is very powerful. Whether it was one the author intended to get across or not, what I got from reading Galactic Fun Park was, the lives of creatures other than our own, by that I mean human life, is important too.
With regard to this book, those creatures are what many consider pests, critters, or vermin. In other words, the roaches, rats, stray cats, raccoons, etc. that I mentioned earlier.
At the risk of saying too much, the narrative switches from their perspective and worldview and the humans at the park. This makes for quite an interesting read.
There are some twists and turns that surprised me, especially toward the ending, which is as much as I’ll say with regard to the plot because I don’t want to provide any spoilers, or any more of them.
In spite of all that, again, I was not fully immersed. But hey, that’s just me. For that reason, I could not give it any more than four stars, but I’d recommend anyone who is into reading books of this nature, to give it a try and see how you feel about it.
