Marquess of Diamonds: Regency Romance (Lords of Scandal Book 17) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 426 ratings

This marquess is her surly hero in disguise…

Lady Abigail needs help. Her mother has great plans for her future but her lackluster performance as a debutante isn’t measuring up. Which is why she convinces her best friend’s brother to help her. A few dances is all she needs from the grumpy marquess and then the suitors will come calling. But the moment she steps into his arms, the trouble begins. He’s a former rake, after all, with more then a few tricks up his sleeve, and even if he doesn’t intend to, he captures Abigail’s interest from the first. What lady can resist tall, dark, and handsome? And when the other suitors do begin calling, she’s left to wonder if any of them will be able to hold her in their arms like the Marquess of Hartwell.

Lady Abigail is too sweet to be believed…

The Marquess of Hartwell, known to his friends as simply Hart, can’t believe that Lady Abigail is for real. She’s too kind, too gentle, and too sweet to be an actual woman. And he’s so jaded, even if she is that wholesome, she’d never want the likes of him. Except for underneath all that goodness is a person who shares his hurt and understands his past. And while Hart only agrees to help her to appease his sister, he finds himself, well, caring about Abby. Which is dangerous for this debaucherous rake. Worse still, the attraction between them grows with every meeting and that is deadly. And when he steals one kiss as a boon, he knows he’s in trouble, because the moment his lips touch hers, everything changes.

But as events out of their control begin to swirl around them, Hart must make a choice. Save what is good in this world and put his own battered heart at risk?

Hart viewed himself critically as a ne’er do well son because as a young man he was wild and his parents complained so. And then they died, cementing those feelings. Abby is the perfect proper debutant with a critical demanding mother. Add a cruel thief looking to hurt Hart and a sister looking to matchmake, shake together add a twist and you have a sweet love story that bleeds into the next. These stories are similar, but always fun to read, maybe because they are always lovable rakes with a weakness.

Marquess of Diamonds is book 17 in Tammy Andresens Lords of Scandal Series. Hart was introduced to Abigail by his sister, Daisy. After a while they both realize they love the other. They have their trials but there is an HEA.

I enjoyed reading about Abigail and Hart, how they met and how they fell in love. It took a while for Hart to finally admit to himself that he was good enough for her. Going from a grump to a happy person all because he let himself feel. I'm glad they got their HEA. I highly recommend this book!👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤

He thinks he’s not worth love. She’s desperate to get away from her mother so she can become her own person. With an arranged meeting he’ll help but that’s all he’ll do until someone wants to use her to hurt him. Great story for Hart can’t wait for next in series.

This was an OK addition to the Lords of Scandal series, but it didn't have enough character development for me. I wanted more backstory on both Hart and Abigail. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.

Abigail was likable, but it was sad how her mother treated her. I was surprised that she didn't tell her mother off frequently, because her mother deserved it. Her mother realized later that she was wrong to criticize her daughter so much -- but I was still surprised that Abigail was never really angry, just kind of resigned to endure the constant criticism.

Hart wasn't likable at all in the book before this one, when he humiliated his sister in front of several people. He later realized he shouldn't have done that, but it took a while for Daisy to forgive him. He was also an unrepentant rake, but that was because his father had told him he wasn't capable of being a better man. It was as if he just decided to be bad, since he could never be the man his father wanted. He got a lot better once he fell for Abigail, though, because she showed him that he was better than his past mistakes.

Other reviewers have mentioned that this entire series has lots of historical errors, and that the couples' behavior and language often doesn't fit the rigid cultural requirements of that time period. That is true, but I don't really mind in this case -- since I am reading the series merely for entertainment. If I were looking for historical accuracy, I would read a classic author like Jane Austen.

    My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Between the sweet girl who never puts a foot wrong and the marquess whose only mood is surly, it's a perfect match. Of course, plenty of twists, character growth, and delightful secondary characters to make it a fabulous chapter in the Lords of Scandal series.

5.0 out of 5 stars This amazing series marches on with gusto

This is another brilliantly written story that sees this series marching on with the same strength as all the previous books. This steamy at the end plot has a bit of a thriller about it, and is full of wonderful characters.
