Very good overview

Very good overview
This was a really good high level overview on considering and living in Portugal. I got this as a gift, and I read it all in one night (skipped the sections that don't apply to me like schools). I recommend it for sure if you're considering Portugal as your next place to live.

I really actively enjoy (vs. enjoyed) and consult Mr. Cave’s book on moving to Portugal. There’s a high level of clarity and perspicacity that really works for all who consider moving to Portugal, whether in theory or practice.

I do have one question for Mr. Cave: Is the section on importing one’s car still up to date? (I.e., if one decides to ship one’s car, are the import fees and VAT still waved during the first number of months after relocating with residency in mind? E.g., from USA)?

Looking forward to future works by Mr. Cave!

This in-depth and well-written overview represents an ideal starting point for anyone who is considering emigrating to Portugal. Cave's style is casual with personal insights you won't find when navigating the plethora of websites that cover this topic. Naturally, you'll need more information than is presented to actually initiate and complete the fairly complex process or emigration but after digesting this book, you'll be much better prepared for what lies ahead. It can also help with focusing on particular regions of the country since many people struggle with the decision of where in Portugal to live. Things are fluid and evolving, particularly due to Covid, so continuing research will be needed but this book provides a solid foundation. It is also an enjoyable read, much better than wading through hundreds of blogs, forums and international living sites. Read this book first, then delve deeper. You may even decide that Portugal is not for you. Either way, this book will save you time and possibly a lot of money.

I read this book but honestly didn’t learn much that I hadn’t found online all ready. It’s a good easy reference, and I don’t regret the purchase. Now I have information in one place.

There are dozens of books in this category, most superficial fluff without meaningful and/or practical information that makes a difference when contemplating a move or in the early stages of making one happen. Not so with this book. I downloaded it with my Kindle Unlimited subscription but found it so valuable that I’m buying it to make it part of my permanent collection.

As my roots are Portuguese I always had it in the back of my mind to one day move there. I have now reached a point in my life where there are several reasons to make this move a reality.

This book was an eye opener. I knew there were many things to consider as this move isn’t an everyday undertaking, but just looking at the number of chapters each dealing with a different subject made me realize I had a lot of homework to do. However, instead of being intimidated by all this I felt better and even eager as I read through each chapter. This book shows that yes there is work to do to make the move happen but most of it is easy and actually part of the adventure if you think about it.

The hardest part is remembering all the things that you need to do when moving to Portugal. That’s where this book comes in, with all its chapters. A great resource to make sure you have your eyes dotted and tees crossed!

As someone who’s lived in two countries outside of my own home country, I can say that this book offers a great overview of things to consider when planning, even down to the level of detail needed for when it’s time to take action. I will be referencing this book over the course of the next year or so as I decide which country I may want to live in next.
