The Process Is The Product Kindle Edition
In The Process Is The Product, Paul shares the stories of failure and rebirth that have taught him this lesson with one goal in mind: helping you fall in love with your process so you can find meaning, finish projects, and accomplish the goals you set for yourself.

About the author

Paul is the author of two humor memoirs, two novels, and a how-to book. The first memoir (Can I Keep My Jersey?) chronicles three years in his stop-and-start professional basketball career. The second (Stories I Tell On Dates) chronicles an entire lifetime in his stop-and-start dating career.
His first novel, Ball Boy, follows the adventures of Gray Taylor, a 14-year-old who discovers basketball when his mother moves them from Los Angeles to small-town Kansas. His second work of fiction, David, is about the reunion of a broken-up rock band that was on the verge of making it big.
Paul lives in Denver, where he runs a co-working space and virtual platform called The Process, whose theory is outlined in his fourth book, The Process is the Product. Paul has also written for ESPN.com, Slate, Esquire, the Wall Street Journal, and FlipCollective.com, a website for writers he founded.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2021Isn't there some saying about how the right book finds you at the right time? Or maybe that's a venereal disease. In either case, I had no idea how much I needed this book until I read it. Here's why:
As a professional commercial director, when I'm on a job, it's full-on. But when I'm off, let's just say I have quite a bit more time on my hand. And with age, kids, and Covid it's become increasingly difficult to schedule my time. Well, no more! Seriously. Paul's book offers practical advice for getting your life and creative career in order. His personal stories and struggles are relatable and make for a fun, easy, but still very useful read.
Can't recommend enough. Will be sending to quite a few friends for the Holidays.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2022I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from reading this book. My hesitancy was that it would be similar to the other productivity books that I’ve read. I was pleasantly surprised.
What I found, and experienced, was a book that goes beyond productivity in a way that makes other books on the subject, pale and lacking depth. It’s not that the other books didn’t provide a good system, it’s just that they lacked the, “why”which was evident in this book.
I also enjoyed the personal stories that I was able to relate to, and think about how it would apply to my life, etc.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2022As a reader, what I enjoy about Paul Shirley's writing are strongly researched facts deliciously swirled in with humor. As a writer, I appreciate how his work inspires me to rejuvenate my own creative flow. In this, his fourth book, Paul deftly blends a copious bibliography with endearing citations from his own life to galvanize helpful habits and advice for accomplishing just about anything. After devouring "The Process Is The Product" in one sitting, I feel freshly motivated and better equipped to attack my to-do list as a WANT-to-do list.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2022Having been a fan of Paul's since his Iowa State days, I have found him to be an enjoyable follow over the years. I was also reading the book Atomic Habits by James Clear at work, and so Paul's book was very much a 2nd way to interpret many of the same ideas, but in an easier read, and in my eye, easier and clearer ways to bring it into my personal life. I had some high level ideas after reading Atomic Habits, but after reading this book, I now am ready to dive in and give building a process some good effort!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2021This book came at just the right time for me! After a hectic year (or two) and a lot of life chaos including a move, kid birthdays, endless family commitments, business issues and the continued descent of the world into the forthcoming apocalypse, I knew I needed to get back on track. Fortunately, Paul Shirley delivered the fresh perspective I was oh so desperately in need of. The truth of the matter is, while I often scold myself for what I haven't accomplished in my creative endeavors, I always dismiss how much I truly enjoy sitting down to write stories or compose songs. I get lost for hours and feel on top of the world when I have a productive session. And, lo and behold, I tend to grow more productive in all areas of my life when this happens. Not to mention I'm less of a bear to be around. Paul examines this phenomenon at length and zeroes in on the change we all need: To enjoy the process just as much, if not more, as the end result. I'm going to be reading this one again soon.
