Hunter brings the rodeo to life with her Darcy Moreland mystery. Moreland is a reporter returning to her hometown for a new job. When she becomes part of a murder investigation rather than just the reporter, her life is turned upside down. Perhaps the handsome detective she trades barbs with can help her set it right before the body count goes too high.
A fun read for cozy mystery lovers.

Reading Rough Ride is a fun way to spend a few days in cowboy land with the sassy, funny and intelligent reporter, Darcy Moreland. This romantic suspense mystery lives up to the name of the title, plenty of ups and downs and sharp corners, like riding a bull. Paulla Hunter has a sense of humor that kept me chuckling as I learned about cowboys, rodeoing and the Cheyenne Rodeo Days, which I suspect must be similar to the Cheyenne Frontier Days. The plot kept me guessing, but the ending is one for the record books. It’s so stunning, it made me gasp. You will never see it coming. That’s how good Hunter is. I highly recommend this book and will tell my friends about it. I look forward to the next Darcy Moreland mystery.

Great mystery book, and even better that it takes place in Cheyenne.

When I moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, I felt like I was in a new country. Well, I was in some ways. I was in Cowboy Country. Frontier Days takes on a life of its own and we all took full adventage of that every year we lived there. From the carnival rides, parades, pancake breakfast, crafts, rodeo, and night shows, we were there. Paulla Hunter's book took me back to Cheyenne and Cowboy Country in many ways. But, what I loved about this visit was the mystery. She grabs the reader with the Ferris wheel incident and keeps building suspense. My kind of book. As a former English teacher, I loved the way she tied in the literary allusions and qotations to fit the situation. Great read!

Move over, CJ Box. There’s a new writer of western suspense and mystery. Paulla Hunter begins her new series set in Wyoming, with young Bridget falling to her death from a Ferris wheel at a carnival in Cheyenne. Intrepid TV reporter Darcy Moreland happened to be present, doing a promo shoot of the festivities, when the tragedy occurred. Accident or murder? Darcy leaves no stone unturned in her search for answers. A plucky heroine turned amateur sleuth, Darcy butts heads with the handsome police detective investigating the incident. She defies his order to stay away and continues to explore the truth of what happened to Bridget, even if it puts her own life in jeopardy. A solid who-done-it mystery that has this reader looking forward to the next Darcy Moreland story.
