An emotional reunion changes everything in the final book in the electrifying trilogy of law, order, and love, from the author of Unbreakable and Shattered.
One day Lexie Williams was a Detective with the Norfolk Police Department and married to the love of her life, the next she was living under an assumed identity and working as the activities director at Cross Creek Ranch in Wyoming. Living under the constraint of the Witness Protection Program, Lexie felt alone and terrified that she would never see her wife or daughter again. Until one fateful day when Dani showed up at the ranch with her best friend and her daughter.
After grieving her wife who had died in a car crash one year earlier, Dani is finally ready to explore the possibility of dating. She meets the carefree, fearless Callie and feels an instant connection. Callie works at the ranch and the two women spend all their time together. Lexie is forced to stand in the shadows and watch Dani fall for another woman until she gets the call informing her that the man who attempted to kill her is now dead. 4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable
As you can read in the book blurb above this storyline covers what has happened since Lexi ‘died’ in book two. Going into witness protection naturally meant that no-one could know that Lexi was really alive if they did then Lexi and those she loved would be in mortal danger.
The fact that this meant Dani believed Lexi was dead saw her life going on in that knowledge. So, after twelve months, on a trip with her daughter, Alex, and friend, Ellie, when she found herself attracted to another women there was nothing stopping Dani following her feelings and exploring a relationship with someone else. Still, Dani was unsure about getting into a new relationship, she has a daughter to bring up, she just wasn’t sure how she would cope if anything were to go wrong with another relationship and she still had feelings for Lexi.
Lexi had hidden away in a new life without her daughter and her wife who she sorely missed. It could be years before she could see them once again or, maybe, never.
It is in these circumstances that Lexi is told that she is free from hiding as the person hunting her is dead.
In this third book of the series Melissa Seal writes about a very difficult dilemma. How do you go back to a relationship indeed, how can you go back, after twelve months of supposedly being dead of basically lying, even under the circumstances, to the person you said you loved? Also, how does someone feel when they are told that the person they loved who had been dead for a year was, in fact, alive? It’s quite a conundrum and one you will truly want to see resolved but how it’s resolved you can only find out by reading Bulletproof.
This is a well written and lovely book. I would definitely say that you should read all three in order – Unbreakable, Shattered and Bulletproof – as they are so strongly linked to each other. I felt that Bulletproof is the best written of the three. This one follows more of the romance element and was thoroughly enjoyable.
