- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2024I love the information Dr. Marks shares on her youtube channel, so I was really looking forward to reading her book. It covers so much, including neurobiological aspect of anxiety, but it's not difficult to read. I love that she includes an appendix of all the tools she discusses throughout as well. I shared some excerpts with my therapist, who ended up ordering a copy for herself :)
Thank you for your work, Dr. Marks!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2022This is an amazing book. I have PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, DID and BPD. I have been working in therapy actively for the last 8 years. This book has been a remarkable go to for me in between sessions, also as an aid to my therapy/medication regimen and I am certain that anyone, whether you have severe and multiple issues like I do or are yet undiagnosed with any disorder currently can benefit from this book. It is so good, I ended up purchasing it again in audiobook format from audible!
Many thanks to Dr. Tracey Marks for being able to speak to a general public openly and honestly without talking down to them about what anxiety is, why it can happen and how can you deal with it.
If you haven't already, she has a youtube channel as well, go there and see some good short videos that help make sense of many life issues. It is how I learned about this book!
This is the best book/audibook purchase I've made in years.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2023I watch Dr. marks on youtube. I gave been suffering from panic attacks and anxiety for the past year. Most of the anxiety books I read would make me even more anxious! I really enjoy her approach here - she gives the facts and studies for multiple wats to lessen anxiety. Its written for the average person to understand. She provides lots of alternative types of help in addition to those that are traditionally accepted by psychologists and psychiatrists. I don’t get anxiety when reading this book 😃

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2023I was interested in this book because I have recently realized that much of what I have felt off and on my entire life is very probably anxiety, and because one of my kids suffers from chronic anxiety. I liked that the author (a psychologist who is apparently on Youtube) shared her personal experiences with anxiety and how it has impacted her both physically and mentally. These specific, real-person examples can help us reflect on times when anxiety has impacted them but they thought it was something else, or to see the range of ways that anxiety can affect us. I also thought the sections at the end with suggested coping strategies and coping and relaxation techniques were very helpful in a concrete way.
The aspects I thought didn't work quite as well were first, that the book begins with a chapter outlining a lot of anxiety-related disorders. This was pretty dry for a first chapter; I thought it would be more engaging to start with something less clinical. The descriptions of the disorders also tended to be pretty basic, without giving a lot of information or specifics for some of them, which wasn't super-helpful as a reference. And I also felt that devoting a section to Freud and his anal/oral theory was an odd choice. Haven't these theories been debunked? I didn't think psychology was still taking them seriously as a diagnostic tool, and I certainly don't think they should be considered as a basis for any kind of "neuroses" people are suffering from.
In all, I felt that with a bit more guidance from an experienced editor, this could have been more helpful as an overall guide for dealing with anxiety.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2023Dr. Marks is a favorite clinician of mine. I was quite thrilled to find her book and highly recommend it to those looking for explanations to what Anxiety is, where it comes come, and practical suggestions on how to reduce the devastating effects of anxiety on our emotional health. Her thorough appendices is equally as informative. Thanks from one of your fans.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2022I received my copy in August, but I just started to read. So far it is an easy read. I feel that Dr. Marks does an excellent job breaking down complex ideas to where I understand and can relate. I am not a psychiatrist, nor do I play one on TV.
I look forward to continue my reading journey in this book. I love her videos and I can see the love of professional in the videos and book. Get the book. You won't be disappointed.
