All the Dark Places: A Riveting Novel of Suspense with a Shocking Twist Kindle Edition
A dark new thriller perfect for fans of Megan Miranda and Shari Lapena where murder exposes the dark secrets at the center of a group of friends and sets two women – one with a traumatic past, the other a Boston police detective – on a hunt for truth.
Snow falls softly outside Molly Bradley’s home on a frigid January night. Inside, half a dozen close friends are gathered to celebrate the fortieth birthday of Molly’s psychologist husband, Jay. Candlelight gleams against dark wood, wine flows, and the house rings with laughter. Everybody loves Jay, Molly most of all. Yet next morning, Molly discovers Jay dead on the floor of his office, his throat brutally slashed.
After decades working with the Boston PD, Detective Rita Myers has grown accustomed to the banality of evil—the murders that make no sense beyond bad luck or a tragic brush with the worst of humanity. But Jay Bradley’s murder isn’t random, or a mere crime of opportunity. Rita is convinced that someone in the couple’s small circle killed him. Someone who was celebrating with them that night.
Devastated, Molly tries to make sense of her husband’s death. Jay was her rock, the only person who really understood the nightmare she lived through long ago. He knew the horrors she’s kept hidden even from her friends. But shocking revelations are making her question if Jay was all he seemed to be—and whether someone else knows her past too. And until Molly figures out who she can really trust, she won’t be able to stop herself becoming the next target . . .

- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2024Molly wakes up to find her husband dead in their garage after his birthday party the night before. One of their friends is the suspect. It was a really good read. Very slow and suspenseful.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2023After the trauma Melinda experienced as a child, her parents tried to erase what happened by moving and calling her Molly. As an adult, the only person who knew about her past was her husband and a psychologist, Jay. He was the only person who made her feel safe.
The morning following Jay’s 40th birthday party with close friends, Jay is found dead in his home office. Molly is forced to face this tragedy without the only person who ever made her feel safe.
But who could kill Jay? Everyone loved him. As the police start investigating their male friends, Molly starts receiving calls from someone who knows about her past as “the girl in the cellar.”
There are a lot of twists and turns and I found myself rooting for Molly. As everything is explained at the end and the killer is revealed (what a great twist!!!), Molly finds her courage and is able to move beyond being a victim.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2023The debut novel by Terri Parlato is definitely a winner! Fast paced and twisty, the book unveils its secrets in a perfect formula. The characters are likeable and well developed, leaving the reader with the feeling that the people are true to life. The story flows very well, while never giving up the villain until the ending chapters. A great mystery with everything I could ask for. I devoured it in less than a day. I couldn't put it down. I will look for new novels by this talented author.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2024Good novel but kind of predictable. The dialogue is sometimes implausible. For instance, when the police start questioning Molly immediately after the murder and her sister asks the detective if the questioning is really necessary. Hmmmm, yeah, it is! The second part is suspenseful and nearly riveting but the ending seems underwhelming and disappointing.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2024During the investigation into his murder, another crime becomes linked to his death and it seems one of his group of friends may be the killer.
