Marquess of Fortune: Regency Romance (Lords of Temptation) Kindle Edition
Tall, dark, and handsome, the mysterious Lord Smith is the exact kind of man with which the sister of a baron should never consort. But he captures Miss Emily Cross's interest at every turn, her heart fluttering wildly in her chest whenever their eyes meet. Is this how a woman falls into ruin?
One delicious step at a time…
Ace knows he's a bad man.
He has far too many transgressions to name them all, but the list of dirty deeds grows longer by the day. His only consolation is that he’s done each and every one of them to protect his family and he’d do them all again. Still, it’s only a matter of time before the law, or a criminal he’s wronged, makes him pay for his crimes. His one hope is to secure his family’s future before that day comes.
Until he meets her.
His sister’s friend, Miss Emily Cross is everything he can never touch. Beautiful, kind, wholesome, and of the peerage, she could never be his, especially with the noose around his neck tightening by the day. He ought to leave her well enough alone, except that Miss Cross knows far too many of his secrets. Can he trust her to keep them? There's only one way to find out. Staying close to Miss Cross is a necessity...but now it's not just his life at risk, but his heart.

About the author

USA Today Bestselling Author, Tammy Andresen lives with her husband and three children just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up on the Seacoast of Maine, where she spent countless days dreaming up stories in blueberry fields and among the scrub pines that line the coast. Her mother loved to spin a yarn and Tammy filled many hours listening to her mother retell the classics. It was inevitable that at the age of 18, she headed off to Simmons College, where she studied English literature and education. She never left Massachusetts but some of her heart still resides in Maine and her family visits often.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2022Tammy Andresen creates remarkable characters who are incredibly engaging. I loved the romance but needed more resolution to the Den of Sins thieving dilemma, since I’ve read all the books prior. I know she’s got another series brewing and I hope she continues this content. As a self contained book I did need a little more resolution also. I wanted Boxby to approve their marriage and I wanted Easton and the family to bond although that might happen in the next series.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2023This was an OK addition to the Lords of Scandal series, but it didn't have enough character development for me. I wanted more backstory on both Ace and Emily. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.
Emily was likable, but I wanted her to stand up for herself sooner. She finally did tell her brother that she wanted to make her own decisions, but it took her a while.
Ace was mostly likable, but his actions in the beginning of the story could have completely ruined Emily -- and he didn't seem to care at the time. That was wrong of him. I did like that he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness for his siblings, and that he ended up being so protective of Emily.
Other reviewers have mentioned that this entire series has lots of historical errors, and that the couples' behavior and language often doesn't fit the rigid cultural requirements of that time period. That is true, but I don't really mind in this case -- since I am reading the series merely for entertainment. If I were looking for historical accuracy, I would read a classic author like Jane Austen.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2022I enjoyed reading about Ace and Emily, how they met to how they fell in love. He had family to take care of and he did what he thought needed to be done, she understood him and his purpose. He didn't think he was good enough for Emily with all the lies he's told, but in the end all things work out and he becomes a lord for real. When they find out they are thrilled and decide they will marry and soon. I highly recommend this book! 👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2022Rags to riches for a good, honorable, man. It had adventure and a who done it. I really enjoyed it except for the last few chapters they were way too sexual for me. Skipped those paragraphs to read the rest of the book.

I enjoyed reading this book, showing that there were sympathetic people even in the regency period. Emily was a brave lady to go for what she wanted
