I have been enjoying the mysteries in this series. I knew who the guilty party was, but not why. The crimes were goosebump- inducing. There was a downturn in the suspense and action right before the final reveal, which left me with some questions about motivation and execution. I would have liked to have given it another half of a star. I
I have read all of the Cathy Moreland books, and hope the author will write more of them. 4 1/2 stars.

This whole series is well written and features a Scottish doctor who also struggles with problems of her own. Each book shows her gaining confidence and solving murders, some older and some new. This book is almost a closed-room mystery; one of the conference participants dies, and since the hotel is otherwise empty, the guilty party must be present. I love the characters and the presentation of the clues, as well as the resolving of the murder. I see that one reader figured out who, but I didn't! And certainly not why. Great read!

What begins as a group of medical professionals gathered for additional certification, turns into a chilling and perplexing mystery. Seemingly innocent characters are slowly exposed for the crimes each has committed in the past. Ms Chong does a superb job of peeling away the onion until all is exposed. Baffling, brutal, and beautifully written. Highly Recommended.

Normally I get an inkling of whodunnit (even if I end up being wrong). This book tho, I had no clue. Whatsoever. And I loved it! I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series or by this author in general.

In Lethal Resuscitation, Dr, Kathy Moreland is away for a weekend medical emergency training course at a posh hotel. Her friend Suzalinna is one of the instructors. Another is a doctor who insults everyone and drinks too much. He's found dead and everyone involved in the program is suspect. Anonymous letters are sent to the participants describing unpleasant events in their past. There is a parallel narrative about an elderly doctor who lives on one of the offshore islands mentioned in the story. This is a mystery where everyone and no one could be the killer. There's another murder. With very little help from the police, the killer is identified.
Dr. Moreland is a very sympathetic character, always trying to be of help. Her friend Suzalinna is a bit of a busybody, a counterpoint to Kathy. The other characters are well written and believable. Descriptions of life on the Scottish Islands off the mainland are extremely interesting and well done, and are an integral part of the plot.
I received an advance e-book from the author and these are my thoughts.

Another excellent addition to the Dr. Cathy Moreland series!

This book finds Dr. Moreland in a hotel with just a few other fellow medical professionals. They are there to get some refresher training in case there is an emergency that they need to handle. Of course, someone (actually a couple someones) turn up dead. Dr. Moreland (begrudgingly so because she is also on the killer's radar) is on the case!

As always Chong somehow makes it seem not totally insane that Dr. Moreland get involved to help figure out what is going on. Again, the who did it isn't someone you'd really expect so it has almost gotten to the point where you pick one of the least likely people to focus on. Still, how Dr. Moreland arrives at her conclusion is incredible as always.

I hope there are more books in this series because I absolutely love them!

    Thank you Bloodhound books!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great story in a series that just gets better and better!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 5, 2022
A mixed bag of people turns up at Huntington Lodge Hotel for a course on emergency treatments. One is a nurse and five are doctors, including Dr Cathy Moorland, and are being taught by Cathy’s friend Suz (an A&E consultant), a helicopter medic and an advanced paramedic. Some seem to recognise others there but none of them seems pleased to see each other. Even the instructors don’t seem to be getting on. Two of the attendees, a married couple, are due to take over a posting on a remote Scottish island and the reader also hears about the retiring doctor on Skeln and some dark episodes in the island’s past. The first day is a little fraught with some being competent and some anxious, and after an evening meal where certain people seem to be drinking more than is good for them, only the four lady doctors including Suz and Cathy make it in time for the first practical session the next morning. Nothing goes to plan when one of the dummy bodies due for resuscitation turns out to be one of the lecturers. And worse still, it seems someone has already had a go at bringing him back to life before leaving him for dead! Chief Inspector Forbes turns up with a team of police and, having heard about Cathy’s prowess in amateur sleuthing, is keen to share his thoughts with her. Unfortunately those thoughts soon turn to murder! Then a rather poisonous note is sent to Suz and another doctor is found murdered. When it looks like Cathy and Suz are the main suspects, the ladies pull out all the stops to find the real killer.
The mystery is well kept up throughout this story and, with plenty of red herrings and viable suspects presented all the way through, I was changing my mind about who the killer could be right up to the end! It was great to see more of Suz again and her no-nonsense attitude calms Cathy when she needs it – they make a great pair!! I would recommend reading the whole series to fully appreciate the history and great relationship between these two ladies. Like all the others in this series, it is superbly written with a clever twisted plot, and a smashing ending albeit tinged with a little sadness. The final book in this series (sob!) is out now. 5*

I so enjoyed this book, I think it is Mairi Chong's best one to date. She is honing her craft, & the plots have got better each time.

The characters were well drawn & believable, & elicited different emotions in me for each one.

It was unusual in the setting, compared to the other books, & it kept me guessing right up to
    the end.

All in all, it was a very entertaining read.

Another great murder mystery. Mairi really builds up the suspense and characters as usual. Everyone becomes a suspect and it's only revealed in the last chapters. It's always a surprise whodunit
