Lawrence of Arabia's Secret Dispatches During the Arab Revolt, 1915–1919 Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

T. E. Lawrence’s dispatches during the Arab Revolt have been published before, but only in an edited and incomplete form, as they were printed for a strictly limited wartime readership in the Arab Bulletin. Now, in this scholarly edition, they are published in full for the first time. They give us a direct inside view of his dealings with the Arab leaders and show us how he presented them to his superiors in Cairo. These wartime writings reveal vividly his impressions of the periods he spent in the desert and the conditions he found there, and they record how the Arab uprising developed and how he became increasingly involved in it. They make fascinating reading for, in his sometimes outspoken way, he reported on the military potential of the Arab fighters and recommended how they should be supported in their struggle against the Ottoman empire. This new collection of his dispatches is a valuable addition to the literature on Lawrence for it allows readers to trace the course of the revolt as he wrote about it at the time. They are printed in chronological order with full explanatory notes. The editor Fabrizio Bagatti provides a perceptive introduction which sets them in their wartime context, fills in the military and political background to the strategic situation in the Middle East and describes Lawrence’s important role as an intermediary between the Arabs and the British.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable and Useful Collection of Documents
Reviewed in Australia on January 1, 2024
I want to first say thank you to the Editor and all who worked to bring this volume to publication.
Those like myself who love getting at the unvarnished roots in historical research; deeply appreciate those who can and do supply us with primary materials.
Having these documents available to all is in my estimation; such a treasure!

With all the propaganda surrounding especially but not restricted to the history of Arab & Israel relations; the secret communications collated here will assist the understanding of any who love truth. The popular fiction that the Arabs were no more than passive pawns during the World War 1 power plays is complete horse manure! These official communications revealed here were not meant for the general public, they were 'on the ground', candid coalface reports. Reading through these messages assists the reader to develop a more realistic view of what was transpiring among the Arabs of the Middle East during this time in history.
The growing swell of marxist & Islamic motivated revisionist history present within our Universities and main media has been and is blinding and destructive. The public is being manipulated to hate and blame the Jews for the problems in the Middle East and the falsification of past and present history fuels that end.
We need sober judgment while being bombarded by the main media's falsehood's, this book will assist us to stay the course of fair judgment.
Furthermore, this books presentation and formatting in the hardcover edition I purchased; makes the reading experience pleasurable.
