Linda Shenton Matchett is an author, speaker, and history geek. She writes about ordinary people who did extraordinary things in days gone by. Her books are regularly praised for their accuracy and realism. A volunteer docent and archivist for the Wright Museum of WWII, Linda is also a trustee for her local public library.

She was born a stone’s throw from Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland and has lived in historic places all her life. Now located in central New Hampshire, Linda’s favorite activities include exploring historic sites and immersing herself in the imaginary worlds created by other authors.

Wonderful Christian historical romance set around a library

Estelle’s Endeavor by Linda Shenton Matchett is a Christian Historical Romance. Estelle Johnson promises Aubry DeLuca that she will wait for him to return from war. But Aubry’s injuries during the war caused him to push everyone away – from Mitch, an orderly, to Estelle, his intended. But God has other plans for the two.

Of course, having a library be one of the main settings for this story really drew me in and kept me reading. Linda Shenton Matchett created characters and storylines that captured my attention, and this book definitely met my expectations. I found myself unable to put the book down.

Perhaps my love of history and historical fiction skew my opinions, but I definitely believe this book is worth reading. Learning to rely on God to overcome hardships in life definitely plays a major role in this story. The author takes time to illustrate how even when someone acts badly toward us, we need to respond as Jesus Christ would respond.

So. if you are looking for a Christian Historical Romance, check out Estelle’s Endeavor by Linda Shenton Matchett for yourself.

The author has penned another great tale from World War II. Linda Shenton Matchett continues to manage to come up with an engaging plot and endearing characters that get readers caught up in the compelling story. This historical novel comes across as sincere and authentic, portraying what life was like in the United States during wartime in the 1940s. The main characters must deal with one’s war injuries and the affect of these on their relationship, and we witness their struggles and personal growth. Having worked in a library, I especially liked that Estelle did also. This offers an added element to the novel, as does her coworker nemesis. So whether you have family that endured those difficult days or want to learn more about life in that time, this fits that slot well. The book isn’t long, so it can easily be read in an afternoon or evening. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Sweet Romance, Faith & Second Chances!

Estelle's Endeavor is a sweet romance with God's redemption. A time of new beginnings and trusting in God to heal the hearts of Aubry and Estelle. Aubry back from the war tries to put the memories behind him but doesn't know how. Nightmares keep him on edge and outbursts due to stress from his war injury keep Estelle confused.

The author created a wonderful small town with a library as a backdrop. It was easy to read and the main characters had plenty of layers, and I felt connected from the beginning.

This World War II home front tale about an injured soldier returning home from Normandy and trying to put his life back together tugged at the emotions. From scenes in the hospital overseas to his return back to Maryland, the author painted a detailed portrait of how life might have been for a wounded or disabled soldier. The war had forced Aubry DeLuca and Estelle Johnson to put their budding relationship on hold and now they had to reacquaint themselves more than two years later. As a result, this romance was atypical and made for interesting reading as the couple sought to regain their footing with each other. This was no easy task as Aubry and Estelle had to navigate through the awkwardness, miscommunication, and doubts that wreaked havoc on their relationship. An encouraging faith element was a natural part of the story and I loved the prayerful support provided to both Aubry and Estelle by a secondary character, Mrs. Feeney. I loved the realism in this book which made Aubry and Estelle’s relationship feel so authentic and would enjoy reading more books with a similar theme.

I enjoyed this novel very much. The author did such a great job portraying the angst of having one’s love injured in a war, and of the injured’s fears and doubts about being worthy of love. The hospital scenes and the library scenes seemed so real. Great book!
