Time’s fickle hand holds a miracle...

1859. Junie Benson has the mind of a genius and the ears of an angel — how else can he hear the voice of God? But then again, why would God be speaking to a twelve-year-old slave? These are questions Junie’s father can’t answer, and his enviably beautiful sister would rather not ask. But when God tells the Bensons to run, they run.

2023. Lt. Colonel Zachary Trumble can’t shake the feeling he’s compromising his life away. Haunted by dreams of a green-eyed beauty, he leaves the military to appease his wife and soothe his unhappy marriage. But as the new head of security at Burstein Labs, Zachary finds himself unsettled by their top-secret experiments.

A mad scientist, a family of captives about to be propelled into a new century, and a love that transcends generations all conspire to push Zachary to the limits of duty — until he’s caught between what has always been done and what is right.

Quotes for Colette R. Harrell Books

THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT is Christian Fiction at its best. The novel is full of lessons about passion, pain, and God's abundant blessings. Filled with suspense, laughter, and touching moments, this page-turning novel will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. Colette is a new author to definitely watch. Brava, Ms. Harrell. Victoria Christopher Murray, New York Times Best Selling Author

In Colette Harrell's debut novel, The Devil Made Me Do It, we meet Esther, Lawton, Briggs, Monica, and a slew of other wonderful characters. I admit I was intrigued by Briggs and Monica and hope to see more of them, hint, hint. My favorite line in the book was, "Girl, I'm saved, not stupid." Infused with the right mix of spirituality, drama, realism, and humor, I see a strong, new voice in Christian Fiction. I look forward to hearing more from Colette Harrell. The Rice Review

This is a book you can read more than once because the story is well thought out and composed from a pen of compassion for ALL of its characters. But there is also so much to learn from this book about the human experience and that of the spirit. We are truly created in the image of God and that is our power. When we overlook our true selves, we become vulnerable to the powerless. Wow! This book right here.

Colette R. Harrell made her debut as a traditionally published author with the book; The Devil Made Me Do It. As a published author, she has enjoyed meeting her readers; for her, it’s all surreal. She holds a master’s degree and worked as a director of social services, which allowed her a front-row seat to the conflict and struggles of everyday people. She uses everyday life to paint pictures of hope and laughter in her writings. Her newest novel is Later.

She appreciates her readers and hopes they will be engaged enough to leave a review.

I was first intrigued by this book from looking at the cover. When I read the sample, I WAS HOOKED!!!! Ms. Harrell created a masterpiece that combined historical fiction, fantasy and faith! She skillfully weaves a story that begins with the pain and trauma of slavery and brings the story forward to present day, with the characters stories being told in separate chapters, and then subsequently, coming together. I loved this book and also signed up for the bonus chapter. I hope there is a part two? The characters John ( the father), Sari and Junie ( the children), are slaves on the Benson plantation in the South. Junie, an unusual child is gifted with a mind for math , thus making him very valuable to the slave owner. His sister, Sari is under the mistress' control in the big house and their father John has to work in the stables. Junie also hears from God, and knows that the time will come for them to make their escape. He knows God will direct them, through everything, even the visions of flying things and objects he doesn't understand. Fast forward to present day. Zachary Trumbull, ex special forces soldier, has been haunted by dreams of a beautiful red haired, green eyed girl for most of his life. He knows that she is his true soul mate, not the one he married and is now making his life a living hell. A chance encounter, has Zachary fighting through unbelief, both spiritual and logical to realize God has a plan for him and the Bensons, if they can only persevere!

I loved this book. There was action, Romance, history and more. It was so well written. The switch from the 1800s to the 2000s had me wanting to know what was about to happen next. I felt like I stepped into a movie. I got emotional as I read the parts from the 1800s as well as the 2000s too. Another great book from this author but the best one. I can’t wait for your next one.

I loved the fast pacing of the book. Each character came alive. Reading this book was like watching a movie. From pre civil war to now I stayed turning the page. No spoilers here. Well written, and engaging.

In this constant anticipation of what is going to transpire next read,
all the characters are very well portrayed and relatable. Three of them arrive at
the door of escape only to be denied entrance. As heart breaking as this was to experience,
readers will still be totally engrossed and eager to read to the story’s conclusion.
The suspense is nonstop, your rapt attention is on lock,
this page turner is thrilling, and the love is real. Applause to Colette R. Harrell for producing a superb read!!!!

Colette Harrell joined Chosen Pen Book Club’s monthly meeting on Zoom to discuss her novel. Colette is an accomplished author. The novel’s cover quickly draws your attention because of its magnificent layout. On the cover, a young lady and man are standing with their backs together with questionable looks on their face. To add to the suspense, a little boy looks at them from behind a pole. Now you much purchase this novel to get to the bottom of the mystery. From start to finish, the story captures your imagination of each character. The author’s detailed description awakens your mind to wander beyond the pages of what’s LATER!

Later is a story told in the past and the present. Later is one of those stories that will stick with you long after you have read the last page. Later is a very intriguing and spellbinding read that will keep you up late into the night as you race to the end to find out how the past and the present come together.

Later is a story about a boy and his sister in 1859. A family who wants nothing more than to be free. The road to freedom is a long and hard one for twelve-year-old Junie Benson and his older sister, Sari. When Sari is set to be sold Junie and his father set out to save Sari by taking her away to freedom.

Later is also a story about a man, ex-Special Forces Lt. Colonel Zachary who lives in the present 2022 with a green-eyed beauty whom he fell in love with from the moment he met her but after the marriage, everything started to go downhill. His green-eyed beauty changed right before his eyes never to be the same again.

Later kept me on the edge of my seat wanting and waiting to see how the past and the present were going to intertwine. From the moment I picked up Later I was anxious to see how the past and the present came together.

Later kept me in suspense from the beginning trying to figure out how it was all going to come together in the end. The twists kept the pages rolling chapter after chapter. I can’t wait to read more by this author, Colette R. Harrell.

I would recommend Later to anyone who loves a good love story. Grab your copy of Later today!
