Country Cat Blues (Cat Noir) Kindle Edition
This English village may look peaceful, but a cat can smell trouble from a mile away . . .
When pet cat Aubrey moves to the picturesque village of Fallowfield with his family, he is keen to explore the delights of the English countryside. However, the idyllic peace is shattered when a gruesome murder takes place at the village fete.
Tensions run high as spectres from the past begin to emerge. Aubrey is particularly bothered when suspicion falls on Morris, who may be eccentric, but is also a good friend to the local felines.
It’s time for Aubrey to step up. Can he solve the mystery before it’s too late?

About the author

I was born in London and spent my teenaged years in Hertfordshire where I spent large amounts of time reading novels, watching day time television programmes which seemed to involve middle-class women visiting each other's houses, and avoiding school. Failing to gain any qualifications in Science whatsoever, the dream of being a forensic scientist collided with reality when a careers teacher suggested that I might like to work in a department store. I don't think she meant Harrods. Later studying Law, I decided to teach rather than go into practice and spent many years working as a college lecturer teaching mainly Criminal Law to adults and young people.
One of the key protagonists in Street Cat Blues is a rescue cat called Aubrey. I was asked recently whether there was a real Aubrey and, if so, how he had come to be named. The answer is yes, there was a real Aubrey and he was given his name because my husband, John, was reading John Aubrey’s Brief Lives at the time. Aubrey always said he was grateful not to have been called Brief.
Aubrey came from a rescue centre and, just like his namesake in the book, was an inmate for longer than any of the other cats. He had been found wandering the streets and picked up by a helpful stranger, although once we got to know him we suspected that he was found before he was lost. Wherever he had been, he had certainly been well looked after. From the very first, he was affectionate and loving although it would be true to say that he never missed a food opportunity. The idea for the book came from John observing one day after watching Aubrey strolling about the garden, 'that cat always looks as though he's got a bit of admin to sort out'. Or, possibly, a crime to solve.
I live on the south coast with my husband John and cat Archie. When not writing, I enjoy crosswords, reading crime fiction, walking by the sea, and drinking wine. Not necessarily in that order.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2023Lots to enjoy in this series. I read this one first and didn't even realize it wasn't the first. But I'm busy ordering the rest. It was a good puzzling mystery, the setting relaxing, and loved the main characters and Carlos beginning to thrive. And Aubrey is so sweet, innocent yet knowing. Wondering when the mystery of Maudie will be unveiled.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2022For people who are convinced that there is much more going on in the heads of cats than humans know about.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2023The mystery gets solved without all the in-depth investigating, it seems. The story line goes on and before long the suspect is apprehended. Love it!! So glad the person hurting the precious fur babies was caught. I kinda had an idea who the killer was from the start. But getting to that point was extremely interesting. Aubrey is a fantastic feline character and I'm enjoying the other feline characters, as well. Now I have a new favorite series, which is one of many!!🤗

5.0 out of 5 stars Puts a smile on your face !
Really enjoyed this book, second in the "cat" series by the author. Light, well-written stories from the cat's point of view. Highly recommend for putting a smile on your face 😊😊

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite bonkers but great fun.
Read straight after book one. This follows the key characters to their new home , meeting new characters, both human and feline, plus the wondrous spirit!!
Such a delightful mix of developing emotions, nasty undercurrents and wickedness.
Lots of pure fantasy, improbability and delights.
Definitely joyful, to be taken lightly but with an awareness of the darker sides life can dole out.
And yes, the "wondrous spirit" was a genius inclusion,, allowing another element to developing background detail. She was also beautifully described.
As I said, quite bonkers. Great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling story that can't help but draw you in.
In Country Cat Blues, the writer, Alison O'Leary evokes the timeless English village and all its secrets. Full of engaging characters and wry humour the adventures of Aubrey, his family, and feline friends draw the reader into a tale of twists and turns. This is Miss Marple meets Top Cat with a touch of the supernatural. Often poignant and at times tragic the writer is not afraid to confront the darkest human frailties. This is a story that will have the reader gasping, cheering, and smiling in equal measure. A gem of a book.
