This was my first N.J. Moss book, and it did not disappoint. Scott and Casey have been married a year when suddenly Casey went evil, torturing, maiming, demanding his inheritance, creating havoc at the house, and Scott is helpless to stop any of it. Casey is blackmailing Scott, and her threat will destroy his life. The Second Wife is told mainly from Scott's point of view, but we hear from Scott's first wife and from Casey herself. Is Natalie telling the truth about Scott? Is Scott actually clueless why this nightmare is happening? N.J. Moss kept me going back and forth on believing Scott or not. I had no respect for Scott either way, and the last paragraph of the book was SHOCKING!

Mixed on this....when you get to the end it all makes sense, it's a pretty good book, however, while reading it the characters are very confusing. It just doesn't add up. No spoilers here, but there may be some frustration trying to make sense of what is going on with the characters and who or what they really are.

To draw out seriously repetitive it's like the author felt the need to over react the reader imagination too the unpleasant detail .not my kind of story.

Maybe I missed something very important because I just don’t understand this book. Usually I wish books would keep going on, I always finish every book I start and could hardly keep going. I just wanted it to end. Nothing in this book made any sense.

I haven’t made time to read in a long while and I thought it was about time I did. I was an avid reader growing up and have quite the collection of books. This book was recommended in a Facebook group I’m in. I bought it, read it, and fell in love with reading again. It’s gripping, well told, horrifying, and captivating! the story builds and is laid out so well. I didn’t want to put it down! When I had to put it down, I couldn’t stop thinking about it or talking about it. I immediately went and bought all of his books. Thank you, NJ for helping me find my way back to reading and to fall it love with it again. This book is like none other. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy. Trust me. You won’t be disappointed!

This book is well written, BUT I don’t like torture themes and this has torture situations in it. If torture themes involving people and animals isn’t bothersome in a fiction book, you may see as a good read.

THE SECOND WIFE is a psychological crime thriller by NJ Moss. This is the third novel I have read and enjoyed by this author, and I was not disappointed. Another great read!

    His Novels Include:
    All Your Fault (2021)
    Her Final Victim (2021)
    My Dead Husband (2022)
    The Husband Trap (2022)
    The Second Wife (2022)

This is my review of The Second Wife.

*Note: trigger warning as includes domestic abuse and animal abuse of a cat.

“You let her in. You’ll wish you hadn’t.”

Scott’s first wife, Nathalie had committed suicide and killed herself in the garage and Scott had been devastated when he found her. Seven months later he met Casey and managed to find love again, and they soon got married. Casey had rescued Scott from his past grief.

Nathalie and Casey had been friends from the book club.

Now for their first anniversary, Casey had a surprise for him…and not a good one…

The honeymoon was over…and his nightmare had begun.

Casey had been collecting photos and videos of Scott, a secondary school teacher, that would jeopardize his current position. Casey told Scott their marriage had all been a sham, and she threatened to release these images to every member of his staff at his school. She intended to make him suffer. His life would never be the same.

    She demanded money.

Scott confided in his best friend, Gary and Lauren, a teaching assistant at work for help.

Why was Casey doing this to him, and more important how was he going to escape from this nightmare?

The chapters alternate between the different characters: Casey, Scott, Nathalie and Lauren, to provide more background information.

Another great thriller from this author.

Many thanks to the author and Bloodhound Books for my digital copy.

I enjoyed the entire thing until the last two pages. Made no sense whatsoever. And leaves you hanging. Nobody likes abrupt endings. Wrap it up.

I missed the explanation how Casey got involved. How did she meet him or know about his wife? There is no logic, disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disturbingly brilliant!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 12, 2022
Though this book was hard to read in places (as a survivor of domestic abuse at the hands of a narcissist), it was absolutely brilliant.

There were times when I would literally cringe and gasp but also parts when I would smile and chuckle at the dark humour within the story.

NJ Moss has a very unique way of being both disgustingly graphic in his writing but leaving you desperate to read more. The Second Wife is very typical of this writing style. This book kept me second guessing the whole way through.

Another easy 5 star review for Mr MOSS!
  • The Cat's Mother
4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant psychological thriller ... but cat lovers be warned!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 27, 2022
Wow! This book certainly doesn’t hang about! By page two I was absolutely hooked and couldn’t put it down. No slow and boring build up, the author jumps straight in. And then BANG! Just when you are starting to feel empathy for a character there is one brutal twist or turn after another and you don’t know who to believe or feel sorry for. The story centres on domestic abuse. It’s brutally graphic and mildly sexually explicit in places and some readers, especially victims of abuse themselves, may find it a very difficult and upsetting read.

So why only four stars? Well, it contains a disturbing scene with horrible cruelty to a cat. It isn’t very long and thankfully not to explicit, and it is integral to concluding the story, but it might very well play on the imagination of animal lovers like myself.

In summary, it’s quite a harrowing read but it had me hooked the whole way through. Will I read more by this author? You bet! I just hope no more animals are harmed in the making of his books!

I found it hard to engage with the story as everyone was so unpleasant. I read quickly to the end to see what happened. They really were a nasty bunch.

New author to me and this is the first book I have read by him. I have to say I really loved it. Short chapters easy read and fast paced too. It was a brilliant book and real pleasure to read. Can't wait to read more books by this author.
