About the author

Laura Stewart lives in a picturesque village just outside of Glasgow with her husband and three daughters, along with an affectionate golden retriever, excitable black lab and three discerning cats. As well as constantly being in need of a good hoovering, her house is noisy and chaotic and she wouldn't have it any other way.
After studying English Literature at Glasgow University, she attended some creative writing evening classes and was delighted to find herself amongst like-minded folk with a passion for writing.
Her debut novel was shortlisted to the final few of the Richard and Judy Search for a Bestseller competition.
When not writing, Laura is usually to be found reading; with at least a couple of books on the go at any one time. She also enjoys losing herself in art galleries and cooking up hearty meals to be enjoyed well into the evening with good wine and good friends.
She has lofty ambitions for her garden and recently joined a local community choir.
One day she hopes to add bees, ducks and a couple of alpacas to her menagerie.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2023Will keep you guessing until the last few chapters. There were a few things I did not fully catch onto having not read the first in the series but not so much that I could not fully follow this plot line or appreciate the characters' personalities. An enjoyable Christmas read.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2024Perfect Christmas tale of murders, mayhem, and sleuthing. Local colorful characters and loads of suspects to keep track of and eliminate ever so slowly. Appropriately atmospheric, with loads of snow and mistletoe. And a page turner to boot!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2022A 3.5-star read for me. I liked the setting very much. It's days til Christmas, it's cold, and there's also a wedding booked at the main character's hotel. All the ingredients for this girl to enjoy this. The characters were well done (Gideon could star in his own spin-off series) and the dialogue was tight but I have to admit the mystery felt a bit drawn out (seriously, there's no reason for this to be a 400-page book). Granted there's a lot else going on here and also many couples in various stages of couplehood are included. I didn't read the first book but it's clear that readers are supposed to care about the couples a lot here (and for those not quite coupled up yet, that they get there with the one they pine for soon) and while I didn't dislike any of that, I didn't care that much. I was much more here for the murder mystery.
I read this through Kindle Unlimited.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2023Stone Manor is always full of surprises. Rather than a quiet Christmas in her new Inn Lucy has booked her first wedding! As the rich and famous guests begin to arrive a mysterious stranger dies when she meets him in her Folly. Then the secrets start to build…how many people will die…will one of them be Lucy. Help yourself to a healthy helping of mystery British style in this exciting read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2022For a small Scottish village, a whole lot happens. The story took a while to pick up steam, and there were a whole lot of characters to keep track of, but there were numerous sub plots going on, which somehow all got resolved. The only thing I didn’t care for was a bit of foul language. The author was clever enough to have come up with something better. And oh yes, there were some editing and typo issues, but not enough to stop me finishing the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous cosy murder mystery
Absolutely loved this book and I did not guess the end (which is unlike me!)
Highly recommend - also really enjoyed ‘murderous affair at stone manor’ by the same author 💚

4.0 out of 5 stars very readable
This is the second book in this series, and includes many of the characters from the first. Laura has a very chatty style that's easy to read, and a heroine that isn't afraid to take risks in the otherwise relatively safe environment of rural Scotland. Forced into a Poirot-like denouement by the guests deciding to leave before the police arrive, we get a very full explanation of the plot in case you missed something.
Well, plotted, relatable characters, a little romance and it only misses a start because there were so many characters (it's a hotel after all) I struggled to keep track of them all. Thoroughly looking forward to book number three from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christmas Tale
Really easy read of a classic style whodunit, with great characterisation. Thoroughly enjoyed it, especially as it was a Christmas story set in Scotland

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
Great characters, great setting and I loved the story. I couldn't put it down, I was drawn into the book as if I was there . Good read for a cosy winter's night in. I will look forward to her next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A cosy easy read
Lots of characters but there was enough detail given early on to enable you to get to know them fairly quickly. A slightly predictable ending but a good read nonetheless
