Every Flower of the Field (two sparrows for a penny book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 122 ratings

Safe is the most dangerous feeling of all.

For as long as she can remember, Rose Galway has been a captive, controlled by one man or another. To her, though, God is the one holding the keys, refusing to set her free despite the desperate pleas she has sent heavenward.

Detective Laken Jones has known hardship too, including the daily trauma of racism. Still, nothing he has gone through compares to what Rose has endured. He wants nothing more than for her to experience hope and healing and maybe even happiness in her life.

But first he has to find her.

Laken is willing to risk everything to set Rose free. And to help her find her way to God. Even if that means letting go of her—and the future he envisions for the two of them—forever.

Hopeful fiction on the tough topic of trafficking

Hopeful fiction on the tough topic of trafficking
"Tag and their dad must have somehow managed to instill in Rose a belief that men could be good, that they could treat women with love and respect, cherish them the way they deserved to be cherished. A belief that, even if it had been buried deep under the unspeakable traumas she had endured under Brady and Van, had somehow, like a bulb pushed beneath inches of soil, survived the cold and dark. Now, like the wildflowers she loved so much, it was rising, breaking through rough ground to reach for the warmth and sunlight."Can someone ever really recover from trauma? Especially years of abuse and torture. In this "Two Sparrows for a Penny" series, Sara Davison tackles the tough topic of trafficking with caution and hope. She does not gloss the pain that the women would go through in these circumstances. Instead, she presents a story that could be lived out for those who need to move past the horror. This is the story of Rose. Telling too much about the circumstances behind why she has been stuck in this trafficking cycle will give too much of the story away. She is portrayed as a woman who was victimized who can now find her way forward through the support of faith, family and friends. Enough is mentioned about her circumstances that the reader will feel the horror without knowing the details. Sympathy results.Because of the topic, there could be triggers. The story ends with hope but without all of the details wrapped up. Healing takes time. There is plenty of suspense in this title as there is danger involved. Rather than feeling discouraged, I was reminded that we can make a difference in the lives of others. This book is the sequel to "Every Star in the Sky." Characters are connected to both books. I recommend reading that one first, but you could read this as a stand-alone.In the author's note at the end, the author explains more about her faith even in tragedy. A call to action is also provided. While we may not have the ability or resources to rescue others, we can pray and be aware that this happens. Organizations are recommended where readers can get involved.

Like Starr in Every Star in the Sky, Rose is holding onto her faith by a thread. Still, like Starr, she was looking to God for her rescue. Trusting that He would make a way of escape.
Barricaded away and isolated, Rose endured. It was all she could do.
This story is so raw and rugged, with so many twists and, well, [SPOILER].
I will borrow from my earlier review of Every Star in the Sky,
I so appreciate Christian authors who are willing to write about the ugly side of life. Who show that bad things do, in fact, happen to good people. And that it is only the grace of Father God that sustains them (us) and sees them through. Ms. Davison reminds the reader that slavery is not limited to plantations in the South (of the U.S.) nor to a couple of hundred years. Rather, slavery has many forms, has existed from the beginning of time, and continues to the present day.
The author not only braves that front, but she offers the reader a positive means to help—to pray, even if we cannot do something tangible.
Ms. Davison writes such taut stories, such vile topics. Such profound truth. Her books are always page turners, urging the reader on to the end, nudging the reader to pray—if not for fictional characters, for the very real people trapped in very real circumstances.

Great story about perseverance, healing, love, and trust that God is always with us. Everyone has experienced traumatic events in their lives. It is so those difficult times that we need to pause and relive on our faith even more. This is a fantastic story.

Writing a novel about sex trafficking would be a difficult task—but turn it into a romance, and it becomes very challenging. That is exactly what Sara Davison did with her book Every Flower in the Field—the sequel to Every Star in the Sky. This is Book 2 of her Two Sparrows for a Penny Series. I’m assuming there will be a third book, since there is still one kidnapped foster sister at large, and Davison set the stage for Jae’s story in this one.

I can’t imagine delving into the subject of sex trafficking, especially when writing for the Christian market where everything needs to be squeaky clean. It’s probably not terribly realistic, but it does make for a good story.

Every Flower in the Field started off with a bang—literally. There was a lot of tension, which Davison did a great job of stringing out—and I quickly connected with both Laken and Rose—our main characters. I struggled some with “coincidences” and this one had a few (which I won’t delve into, because it could ruin the story for future readers). I will say that the layout of the three books (if Davison continues with a Book 3) really did require these coincidences to make it work, however.

This book, and the previous one, reminds me that we live in a world where there are victims of truly evil people every day. This may be a fictional story, but I have no doubt it’s just barely touching the surface of what really happens. Rarely does it turn out as well as it does for Davison’s characters, which touches my heart and makes me want to stand in the fight.

If you like action, suspense, with a side of romance, you’ll thoroughly enjoy Every Flower in the Field.

There is so much I loved about this book that I’m not sure I can express it in a few paragraphs. The topic of the story is a hard one to read about but is very much in the news. Human trafficking is difficult to comprehend and the author does an exceptional job of giving readers a realistic look at what it is like. To think that someone could be snatched off the street and treated so horrific makes me cry.

I loved Rose and how strong she is. Being captive for years and still she holds on with this deep hope that someday she will be free. The story is riveting when a rescue is made and I loved how the author kept me on the edge of my seat. The danger Rose was in was explosive and at times I wasn’t sure if she would survive. She has been through so much torture and emotional mind games, yet she has this strength that impresses me. Perhaps she is angry with God right now, but there are people surrounding her that will be able to encourage her to trust God and rekindle her relationship with Him.

Laken is a detective that is on scene when Rose is discovered locked in a room with explosives just outside the door. What I liked about him was how he stayed right outside the door and reassured Rose that he was not going anywhere till she was safe. You can feel his inner turmoil as he tries to comfort Rose. He know the danger that she faces but he will not give up.

I loved how this story shows how important it is to help others, reach out when you need support and never give up. Laken is not afraid to show his faith and when he calls out to God to protect Rose I could almost hear his voice crack. Laken believes that God is merciful and forgiving. He is determined that Rose will finally be able to feel safe but he still needs to catch one more person that was involved.

The story is an adrenaline rush as Rose is once again taken away by one of the men who has held her captive. She thought she was safe at a house where a police officer lived but this nan is devious and convinces Rose to go with him . He uses her compassion for the other girls he has to get her to walk away from those who were protecting her. It is a race to find her as Laken is losing it. He was so sure she was safe but Rose leaves to protect the others that are being held.

The ending is good and we see how Rose starts to turn to God for help. It will take her time to heal but first she needs to know that she is free from torment. God never left her and each day she will heal a bit more. There is an attraction between Rose and Laken but they both know they need to take it slow. Emotional healing will come as Rose releases the pain she has gone through and learn to trust God. She is finally free and can once again see the beauty in the flowers and butterflies that God has created.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

So well written. This is the second of the 3 and though the issues they deal with heart breaking, the way the author presents it actually adds to the poignancy of the stories. Looking forward to Tag and Jae's story!

    Read: March 2024
    Format: paperback

When I began this series with book 1 last year, I was not only an immediate fan of the writing, there was a familiar, comfortable, warm feeling I got that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. After completing book 2 today, it became clear as day.

It took me back to when I read the O’Malley Chronicles by Dee Henderson many years ago. It is probably a sentimental favourite of most who read Christian fiction. I feel as though I know the characters as good friends. I became a part of their circle and I embraced their loyalty and love for one another. I laughed with them and cried with them.

Both series are contemporary suspense but with very different stories and situations. This series is about rescuing and healing from being trafficked. Book 3 comes out on April 03rd.

The author, Sara Davison, handles this important topic really well. It’s a tragic issue that does not get the attention it deserves. It is very important to me, not because it’s personal, but because of how God values each one of us as so very precious. Humans who are trafficked are often disregarded and forgotten. They are a ‘product’ that can be sold over and over again to some of the most evil of humans — to the staggering amount of 150+ billion/year.

Throughout the stories, you learn of biological families, foster families, the sisterhood of the victims, and the precious gift of friendship. Whether by blood, by fostering or guardianship, by circumstance, or by friendship, true family is chosen.

There are moments of high suspense as well as things like quiet talks between friends. There is balance. The love of God and how He is with us through ALL things is very evident.

The highlights in this book for me were the treehouse and the commissioned art piece. There is so much meaning and heart behind them.

Sara Davison is a Canadian author and is also part of The Mosaic Collection, which is a likeminded group of authors. On a side note, and as odd as it may sound, the quality of paper in these books is the best I’ve ever seen.

The author puts her heart on a page with so much creativity and she has a gift for drawing you in and connecting you to the story. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I have this series in paperback because of the beautiful covers. I also have other books she’s written on my Kindle. After reading one book of hers, I just KNEW. So, I loaded up my Kindle with several more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Complex recovery for trauma victims
Reviewed in Canada on March 27, 2023
Another gripping read by Davison that combines a genuinely victimized woman's struggle to recover from the trauma of sex trafficking, and the cop who would rescue her. I liked the contrast of their struggles, especially the realistic way Rose makes progress and then regresses. Fear truly can play games with us that way. Officer Laken at times seems too good to be true, respecting Rose's need to heal slowly, but even he falters occasionally. If anything, I suspect few men, even good, faithful men, would be that cautious of a woman's feelings and that in touch with their own. But that's just my 2 cents.
I enjoy books set in less common places like Canada.
This one's a slow-burn romance punctuated by tight suspense caused by the creepiest of villains. And there's hope for yet a third book in this series because one of the other trafficked girls makes a mysterious "guest appearance" right when she's needed for a fantastic rescue, then disappears again. We must know what happens to Jae!
