The Duke Who Dared: Victorian Romantic Mystery (All That Glitters Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 216 ratings

What if the Ugly Duckling decided that what she wished for most was revenge?

A woman like Lady Aubrey Featherington should know better than to dare a duke…
But what if she dared him anyway?

“You wouldn’t,” I fired at him, notching my chin higher as I balled my fists into my skirts.
“Oh princess…” He stares back at me with a heat that threatens to melt my bones. “You ought to know by now I would and will.”

Challenging the sixth Duke of Westgate was a risk. But in this glittering court of opulence there is only one thing that shines brighter than this man: the Rivermore Diamond. A blue diamond of the finest quality, a gift from the Marquess of Cintwell to Aubrey’s mother upon her inconvenient entrance into the world.

By right and birth, the glittering stone belongs to Aubrey and she’ll have it back no matter the price. Westgate with his piercing blue eyes and his rakish grin can go the devil.

Then again, after what she’s about to do, perhaps she’s the one who is going to Hades…

💎 The Duke Who Dared 💍Victorian Romantic MysteryAll That Glitters Book 1✒️ Tammy Andresen🌟🌟🌟🌟Will her feelings of lacking come between them …What I love with Tammy Andresen’s stories is their fairytale vibes with a wicked side. I always need from time to time to visit a world with knights in not so shining armor and damsels maybe in distress but standing their ground. Here we have a bit of the ugly duckling with a Cinderella edge. The gangly girl turned beauty who has to work for her leaving until she is swept off her feet by her Prince Charming.Of course Aubrey is no lady, yet she could have been if she was not born of the wrong side as the illegitimate offspring of two peers. So her upbringing had of the unwanted proof of her mother’s ruin, a woman who then had to use her charms to make do.Added to it, she growing like a colt all limbs and no curves, she always felt like inadequate.Nick has lived the privileged life his title allowed him. But he has reached a time in his life when idle pursuits had no more the appeal for his now older self. This awareness of the futility of this existence made him retreat from society. While they had once been childhood friends, time and their differences of status went between them. Now they they meet again, Nick does not recognize scrawny girl who followed him everywhere, while Aubrey is well aware of his rakish reputation.Yet he soon made himself an inevitability in her present circumstances, to them to unknot the threat against Aubrey and create a new path for themselves.A lovely childhood friends romance, 4 stars.𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen foreplays and lovemaking scenesI have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion, I also have preorder my own copy.

"The Duke Who Dared" by Tammy Andresen is a jewel of a book. It has a heroine who was born illegitimate in a world that would never accept her because of her parent's "sin."
The hero was an unloved child of unhappily married parents who were basically unavailable to each other and their son.
The entire plot moved furiously along with a villain and a lot of action. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure and give this 5 stars.

I liked this book. It was a sweet story about second chances. I could only give 4.5 stars instead of 5 though because I did find Aubrey annoying in the beginning. I just felt like she was being too difficult in accepting help from Nick. She admitted to herself that he wasn’t as mean to her as his friends when they were children, but she still held all the teasing against him. The story had a lot of surprises that added to the plot. Nick’s friend Eric was funny and he brought extra humor to the story when it could have gotten dark while they were going to confront the bad guy. Aubrey realized pretty quickly how wrong she was and how much help Nick was to her although she almost messed things up overthinking again toward the end, but they revealed their true feelings to one another and got their HEA.

Enjoyed the story, but I thought it should have been longer, as there were too many unresolved matters at the end.

I always love the first book in a new series, especially when it's written by one of my favorite authors! This one did not disappoint, and I am already looking forward to Book 2.

Aubrey Fairfield is the illegitimate daughter of a marquess; her mother was beautiful which made her lavish life possible being a mistress/light skirt/courtesan. When her mother became pregnant with Aubrey, the marquess gave her a necklace with a blue diamond, the Rivermore Diamond, to be used as Aubrey's dowry or provide for her future. Her mother deemed Aubrey too ugly for society, kept her hidden away, sold the diamond for cheap to keep up her lavish lifestyle. Her mother died years ago, leaving her alone and in poverty but she has managed to become a successful adult woman, owning her own dress shop and catering to society's most sought after ladies. Everything has been going smooth until one night a man comes into her shop and insists, she attend an auction to bid of the Rivermore Diamond - he shows her the deed to her shop and threatens to take it from her if she does not comply.

Aubrey attends a ball in hopes of finding her father, Marquess of Stallworth, as she needs an escort to attend the auction. While in search of her father, she meets a past childhood friend, Nicholas Hart, the Duke of Wingate, they reminisce about their past times (not all good memories for Aubrey) but their conversation brings Nick into her life to help solve the mystery of this Mr. Smith who is blackmailing her and with getting the diamond. Although, the main goal was Nick helping Aubrey solve her problems, the connection between them was electric. They were two people who had a past together, neither was ever loved as a child growing up and they were a perfect and sizzling match. I loved this couple and the fast-paced, entertaining story they told - cannot wait for Book 2 in this series! I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

GREAT MYSTERY AND ROMANCE!!! The Duke Who Dared by Tammy Andresen is the first in her new series All That Glitters and it was just a great read. What I just love about Tammy’s books that I can alway count on her for a sit back and enjoy read. She is defiantly one of the best authors of today. I found The Duke Who Dared to have wonderful characters, vivid descriptions, had the real fell of the Victorian era, very well written, original and a must read for anyone. The mystery was great and I was surprised to find out who the villain really was. This story has a blue diamond that is 5 carats, a commoner that is the bastard daughter of a marquess, a now duke who teased with his friends an ugly duckling, not trusting men, wanting to be independent, owning her own dress shop, being threatened, a mother and father that did not get along and ignored the heir, a childhood crush, blackmail, needing to get the blue diamond back, regret, wanting to protect, needing an escort to an auction and falling in love. I am so very highly recommending you read this book. Another great way to start a new series.

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

    The Duke Who Dared: Victorian
    Romantic Mystery
    By Tammy Andresen

I have to say, this mystery had me from the beginning.

Aubrey Fairfield had good and bad memories of her childhood…and it seems the bad had jaded her towards many people. The one that might have hurt the most was her memories of playing with her friend Nicholas as a child. She trusted him until he hurt her and those feelings never really changed. Until a grownup Nicholas came back into her life.

Nicholas Hart, now the Duke of Wingate wondered who the pretty blonde lady was at the ball and managed to get himself an introduction, one that didn’t go very well. Had he met her before? She did look a bit familiar, but he would have remembered if they had been introduced….when she walked away from him, that settled the matter in his mind…he needed to know why she didn’t like him!

They have a past, from childhood and sometimes it’s those hurts that do the most damage. Forget the fact that she needs to get back the sapphire necklace her mother had sold when she was younger. Forget the fact she was the illegitimate daughter of the Marquess of Stallworth; she needed help or she would lose her dress shop!

In this first book of her wonderful new series All That Glitters, Author Tammy Andresen is giving readers a new series set in Victorian England with mysteries to be solved!

I can’t wait for the next book to come out! You must read this and see if you can help Aubrey and Nick solve their mystery!
