A dangerous secret changes the lives of two women living in an English mining town in this final entry in the historical Hillsbridge sagas.

Jenny Simmons has always thought of herself as the ugly duckling of her family, so when she blossoms into a swan, she’s not quite sure what to do with it. When amateur boxer Bryn Thompson walks into her life, it seems happiness really is possible. But then a well-kept family secret rears its ugly head, a secret that could put her very life in danger . . .

Helen Hall, a newly qualified doctor, may just be able to help her, but will she risk the job she loves in order to do it?

A Family Affair, a story of life, love and hope will appeal to fans of Maggie Hope and Katy Flynn.

About the Author

Janet Tanner is a prolific and well-loved author and has twice been shortlisted for RNA awards. Many of her novels are multi-generational sagas, and some - in particular the Hillsbridge Quartet - are based on her own working class background in a Somerset mining community. More recently, she has been writing historical and well-received Gothic novels for Severn House - a reviewer for Booklist, a trade publication in the United States, calls her "a master of the Gothic genre".

Besides publication in the UK and US, Janet's books have also been translated into dozens of languages and published all over the world. Before turning to novels she was a prolific writer of short stories and serials, with hundreds of stories appearing in various magazines and publications worldwide.

Janet lives in Radstock, Somerset.

I've always written - my first readers were classmates at Grammar School when I was 14 years old and writing serials on exercise book paper. This came to an end when I was caught writing under the desk in a chemistry lesson ....

Janet Tanner is my real name, under which I wrote some dozen novels, a number of which were published by St Martins Press, NY. These included Oriental Hotel, Folly's Child and Women and War. I have also written many novels for Severn House.

My alter ego is Amelia Carr - Dance With Wings, A Song at Sunset, A Woman of Secrets and The Secret She Kept. The real Amelia Carr is my youngest granddaughter - she was just 2 when she allowed me to borrow her name!

I am married (to an ex-policeman), have two daughters, and four grandchildren, two boys and two girls. I also have a rescued German Shepherd dog named Gypsy. Dogs have been a huge part of my life, and, apart from our first labrador, Kim, whom we got as a puppy, we have always rescued. Despite the problems, it is just so rewarding! We have also had a house-trained rabbit, a cockatiel and a budgerigar, and several hamsters. I regularly cat-sit for my daughter's lovely Jacob.

I have been involved with amateur theatre all my life, acting, directing, singing and, latterly, tap-dancing, something I had always wanted to do!

I also have a Private Pilot's licence - learning to fly is probably the achievement I am most proud of.

And I still love writing as much as I did when I was 14! How lucky is that?

I have now read all four books in the Hillsbridge series. They tell the story of the Hall family's trials and tribulations over the years interspersed with a great deal of love and happiness. I was captivated right from the beginning and could not wait to read all four books. I would have liked to know what happened to Ted and Rosa after they emigrated however and also what became of Barbara and Huw after they moved to Cyprus. The author should be really proud of herself for creating such an absorbing saga. Well done! The only regret I have is that the story has ended. I will certainly be looking at other books by this author.

Wonderful, I really enjoyed these stories about the people in a small Somerset mining town, which take you through the years.
Janet Tanner is a new author to me, I shall certainly look for more of her books. I was enthralled with her very human characters from beginning to end.
