Power Play (The Mack Bedford Military Thrillers) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 928 ratings

An ex–Navy SEAL must thwart a nuclear attack on US soil in this military thriller by a #1 New York Times–bestselling author.

A highly volatile nuclear world looms. Israel has obliterated the deep underground nuclear weapons facility built by Iran, and the United States is nerve-wracked about the stance of a defiant North Korea.

Against this backdrop, the Russians plan a cyber warfare offensive on the US. In addition to a ballistic strike on the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, they plan to jam the top-secret electronic access key to America’s missile launch system—the nuclear football. If successful, Russia would establish a temporary dominance over the United States.

As this geopolitical battle rages in the shadows, behind locked doors, it is up to a Mossad spymaster based in Moscow to avert the Russian scheme. He calls upon the one man he believes can succeed, US Navy SEAL Commander Mack Bedford. It is now up to Mack to prevent the Russians’ cyber weaponry from reaching the American mainland, at which point it would be impossible to stop . . .

Perfect for fans of James Swallow, Tom Clancy, and Stephen Leather.

Quality of the book it poor

Quality of the book it poor
It is a large paper book with a great cover. Oapen it and get a standard size paper back print job with a very poor quality print of the font, terrible. The font is fuzzy like an old dot matrix print job.I spend the money on the larger book to get a full page. This is a giant rip off of money and trees. The book does read a bit slower than most of Robison’s book but still a good read.

I’ve read every Mack Bedford story. Never disappointed. The plot is fiction but could easily flip to reality in today’s global climate. Great read. Highly recommended.

I don't know if it is because Admiral Morgan has re appeared or what but this is just a little better than the last few. One of the things about Patrick Robinson's books are that they do not bore you with over detail or to much of that in-depth character thinking. The books are about doing. This makes them interesting reading as there are few periods where you are expected to climb into a characters head. Actually it is like reading an action report with dialogue.

I have always been a bit harsh on the quality of Robinson's books but feel this one gets a nice balance of action, a bit of absurdity with a touch of reality. Maybe a bit patriotic for non Americans BUT still a good read.

This book was an easy read with great suspense and military craft. Could not put the book down. Another great Mack Bedford thriller.

You latest book was great. Too much time between thrillers. It time to spread the wealth in your books between the actors, I was glad to see tat Admiral Morgan was alive and well. Included Jimmy more. Bedford is like a Robot, and you write him into the story like he is a GOD. Great story line.

Book Review - Not too bad of a military thriller - “Power Play” by author Patrick Robinson. Story is about Navy SEAL Team Leader Mack Bedford and his Team of SEALs stopping the Russians from blowing the US off the face of the earth. Bedford devises a plan to stop the Russians with the fate of the entire country in his hands. He and his highly-trained, one of a kind SEAL Team 10 must not, cannot and will not fail. Robinson’s storytelling was slow at first but built up to be an intense yet heroic ‘save the world’ military thriller. Plenty of action and some real “what ifs” to contemplate if something like this fictional story ever came true. Although the story was ‘scary’ in it’s imagery, it was very intriguing and entertaining to read. Glad I finally pulled this book off the back burner after letting it set for awhile. Not great but not bad either. High cyber-weaponry and nuclear war content.

After an exciting start, the plot seems to drag noticeably while the good guys develop plans against the bad guys. Maps of the areas under discussion would be very helpful throughout. The pidgen english scenes, short as they may be, detract from the story and should be rendered in plain English. At the three quarter mark of the book, the plot becomes a little far-fetched, and continues that way until the end. Thankfully, good action scenes near the conclusion save the day, however, more details in these scenes and less Irish travelog would improve things considerably.

Great writing, embracing story well constructed.
One of the books in a long line of military based novels which hold the readers attention from beginning to end.
Written in the modern era and very topical as to the international events occurring in this day and age.

Patrick Robinson manages to pull a cold war story into the 21st century.. to fight a cold war you need a few things. the politicians, the cheifs and a couple of guys prepared to do anything for their country.. enter Arnold Morgan its nice to see him back and Mack Bedford the man who after he does whatever must be done shows a conscience but only as much as a NAVY SEAL would ... well worth the sleepless nights to finish

5.0 out of 5 stars Storytelling par excellence
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 12, 2020
Robinson has invented a ‘cast of characters’ across the range of his books - from Arnold Morgan, via Jimmy Ramshawe, to Mack Bedford. His novels have a familiar continuity enabling the reader to be immersed with 5he minimum of fuss and placement.

His books are excellently written. Comments elsewhere have criticised the geographical location of some of his scenarios.
What the hell!!. This is entertainment and exemplary storytelling.

A great read

La trama è piuttosto prevedibile, ricalca in gran parte quella dei precedenti lavori di questo autore. Tende ad essere ripetitivo e dunque lievemente prolisso. Il genere è avvincente, il messaggio che lancia è a suo modo profetico. Scorrevole. Consigliato.

In my review of Robinson's Delta Solution I mentioned the over abundance of Information about the Seals, but in this book this was at a mimum and the action was quicker paced and it caught my attention. If he can keep up the action in his future novels then I may return to reading his books

Patrick Robinson bleibt seit Jahren eine zuverlässige Quelle für Technothriller. Die ersten Bücher fanden in einer anderen Ära statt, er findet aber immer neue glaubhafte Geschichten
