Facing the Enemy Kindle Edition
When the long-awaited reunion between Risa and her brother, Trenton, ends in tragedy, Risa is riddled with guilt, unable to cope with the responsibility she feels over his death. On leave from the FBI, Risa returns to her former career as an English teacher at a local college, only to see her past and present collide when one of her students, Carson Mercury, turns in an assignment that reads like an eyewitness account of her brother’s murder, with details never revealed publicly.
Alarmed by Carson’s inside knowledge of Trenton’s death, Risa reaches out to her former partner at the FBI. Special Agent Gage Patterson has been working a string of baby kidnappings, but he agrees to help look into Carson’s background. Risa and Gage soon discover their cases might be connected as a string of high-value thefts have occurred at properties where security systems were installed by Carson’s stepfather and children have gone missing. There’s a far more sinister plot at play than they ever imagined, and innocent lives are in danger.
For fans of romantic suspense comes a heart-pounding thriller about loss, betrayal, and finding the strength to trust again.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2023I’ve followed and supported DiAnn Mills for many years.
The story is about FBI partners in the Houston Violent Crimes Against Children Unit as they face : personal struggles, two mysteries, a revenge from the past, and an illegal adaption syndicate and the growing realization they are in love with each other. The conflict begins in the first few pages with a car accident and an exploding and fire. The action is no-stop. The emotions are high for every character with injury, rejection, and tragic lost of babies through death and illegal adoptions which have failed. Mills includes a story of faith as her two characters draw closer together. And as the story grows to a climax the partners consider what will happen to their careers if they are in a relationship.
I enjoyed the face past action and the development of the character’s relationship.
Facing the Enemy is well organized, complexed mystery which speaks to major topics of our time. You can expect and adventure when you open a DiAnn Mills book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2024This was a good suspense book with pacing that kept me wanting to finish. There is a relationship that builds, but romance is secondary to the story and not the focus.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2023A fascinating look into the workings of the FBI as we follow Special Agents Rissa Jacobs and Gage Patterson in their investigation of the attempt on Rissa's life which results in her brother's death, missing children, illegal adoptions, and an organized crime ring. As in real life, breaking the law leads to pain, suffering, and death. Some scenes are not pretty, so this book isn't for the faint-hearted. The FBI agents are fallible, and they often come up against dead ends. This book has it all: action, suspense, faith, and romance. And it makes me wonder--can two FBI agents get married and remain married when their jobs are so demanding and dangerous?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2024Plenty of twists and turns

- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2025This was my first time reading this author and while I appreciated the storyline and plot, the characters’ dialogue came across as robotic or stilted a lot of the time. This made it harder to connect with the characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024I have read other books by this author. She keeps you interested and I enjoy the details she gives.
