Amy is an absolute star for sharing her story and guiding us who are stumbling our way into the freelance world.
I am helping my partner navigate his developmental editing path, and I only found Josh Burns on YouTube to come close to this level of excellence.
This is such a new field that I understand that there are those that are toxic about it and give the freelance world a bad name. So many think you have to work around the clock and compromise on your ethics and your life. There is one YouTuber that even described how you can find work and give it to freelancers to complete for you for a lower rate... "and sit back and relax while you get paid." We were would not entertain these bad practices with a ten foot pole.
And then there are those that cut through the noise and get to the very heart of the matter that freelancing is all about. That is: freedom to set your career on your own terms and build value for others and in your own life.
Freelancing makes so much sense evolutionarily: we progress as human beings when we have more control over our work. We can infuse it with our vision and make room for our personal visions as well. And they may very well even align and feed off of one another ;)
A million thank you's to Amy for blazing the path!
The first time I met Amy Suto she was a Hollywood TV writer and she had just landed her first memoir ghostwriting job and told me how she got her clients through SEO on AmySuto.com (her blog).
I was like, "Forget Hollywood. You should just do that." And six years later from that day she is doing that and it has been nothing short of the best business school to see what Amy is able to do. She is a person of action in a world that overly deliberates.
This book takes all of her hard-earned lessons on managing clients, time, projects, happiness, health, and everything in between. She spent over a year writing this book because she wants people to have as much freedom as possible to build the life that makes them the best selves they could ever dream to be.
She cares so deeply about helping people. It's innate to her, like breathing, and it's been a true joy being able to see her write this book. I remember reading some of the sections she was working on and asked, "Are you sure you want to reveal this much? Won't it hurt your business?" She said, "There is a lack of good, competent, affable writers in this world and if this book can help accelerate those to six figures I'd be more than happy. The pie isn't finite, it's forever as long as there is value."
And that's a glimpse of Amy Suto and this book is a whole meal of it. So, I cannot recommend this book more. If you're about to embark on the freelance writer journey or any freelancer journey this book is the best guide, like a lantern through a mysterious forest, and I can't wait to hear/see/watch what you find there. Trust me, it can change lives. It changed mine.
Let us know what you think by leaving a review. It helps other people find it and make Amy smile.
Thanks for reading :)
