I continue to be amazed by and deeply appreciative of Charles Tillman’s talent. It boggles the mind to think that this series is only the second saga, and this only the tenth book, he has written.

In his first endeavor he demonstrated complete and total command of his characters’ inner worlds. While arguably an “action” series, it was the motivations and emotions behind that action that gave the series its power and impact. With this series he proves he’s equally a master of the outer world as well. This is not to say he neglects his characters’ inner life, not at all, but this is truly an action-packed series, with intricate plot twists and puzzles galore.

He also feeds us on both sides of the fence, letting us in on the villains’ plotting and scheming, all while we watch our heroes move from confusion to that “Eureka!” moment when they finally figure “it” out. It’s totally enthralling, which makes it a bit cruel when he doesn’t let us in on ALL the villains’ plans, forcing us to wait or figure it out, just like the characters. But I suppose that’s not cruel at all, really, and more just a sign of great and deeply engaging writing.

There are also multiple connections being forged here to the larger Oriceran canon, and I’m loving it. I clued in to Nicole’s identity about 3-4 sentences before it was made clear and I was over the moon to see her there, not to mention the early development of anti-magic bullets. Given how far back in time this series is set, it makes me wonder if Zeb has opened The Dragons, yet.

If you haven’t read this series, do so. It’s a great introduction to Oriceran and you’re in for a ton of fun! Enjoy!

Congratulations to Charles Tillman, Martha Carr and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.

And now you've added a Drow Princess to the mix? Who will be next?

I'm so glad that the drugs are gone for good! That was some scary crap! Can't wait for the Blackwells to get what they all deserve?

Hope Speaker Corbal gets her upcomince to! That woman makes my blood boil!

Natalia and Matt are working on some bounties and trying to find Winston while Julian and his men are trying to stop a drug from driving people to violence. There is a lot going on in this book with a couple new characters, plenty of action, humor and of course magic. I am looking forward to the continuing story in the next book.

I enjoyed the characters and the New Orleans background to the story. Despicable villains and good heroes and heroines along with a fast pace and humor made for a book I didn't want to put down. I will try to wait patiently for the next in the series

I've started and never finished numerous series in this shared universe and this is one of the better ones. Powerful magic with practitioners that while "good" are also extremely ruthless and dark. Matt and Natalia are a power couple and their friends and relatives are fun and downright scary.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Books Just Keep on Getting Better . . .

I'm totally loving Charles Tillman's contribution to the Oriceran Universe.

He brings something a little different to Martha Carr, and Michael Anderle's style of writing, and this has kept me enthralled from book to book, with the storylines and characters getting more complex and layered with each book.

This one was no different.

From the first sentence to the last, it had me gripped, and not wanting it to end.

We have Matt and Natalia constantly being called out, to go after the bounties that are being put out more and more often now, and then there's all the drugs that are flooding the streets of every major city in America - with ever more of the users going crazy, and attacking everyone around them, with a strength that's frightening in it's intensity - and which is killing the users, too!

Unfortunately, Winston Blackwell, the present Head of the Dark Families, is the instigator of the drug plan, and seems to be getting away with it all -with the help of various people set up high in the Government!

Even though his sons seem to be catching the brunt of those resisting what he's doing - and this is a Magical who's determined to come out on top, no matter who he has to step on to do so - nothing seems to stop him from putting his plan into action!

I think one of the things that caught my attention early on in this series, was that there's no real defining line between those deemed 'bad', and those 'good'!

So many of the characters have both traits in their characters, and Charles has perfectly used this very human trait, to show that, while there are extremes, the vast majority of us all have a mix, brought on by a major - or even a minor - incident, which can turn someone from a decent, Law-abiding citizen, into something quite awful.

The opposite, of course, can happen, too, where someone considered quite evil, under societal norms, can show a side where love or kindness comes to the fore.

I really love this, as it's kept me guessing! Lol

Sadly, this is the second to last book of the series - at least I assume it is, as I believe the final book was released very recently - and so I'll be going on to book five: 'More Monsters, More Mayhem', next.

I feel quite sad, really, as I grew to love - and hate - the characters quite early on, and the books were so enthralling, that I read them very quickly.

But I guess I'm getting used to this now, and so I'm off to start reading book five right now, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about this, possibly last, book of the series!

Seems ages ago since the last book. This one did not disappoint. Action from start to finish. I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait for the next one.
