Through Bitter Seas Kindle Edition
Assigned to U.S. Navy Rescue Tug, the ATR-3X, not long after the German surrender in North Africa, Ensign Hal Goff and four other officers must support the Allied invasion of Sicily and Italy, shepherding navy ships to and from the bitter fighting. With the Allied advance finally stopped cold along the Winter Line beneath Monte Cassino, Hal and his ship become part of the grueling invasion of Anzio and the seemingly endless stalemate across Anzio’s bloody beaches. Phillip Parotti’s new novel treats his readers to gripping World War II naval action in the Mediterranean Sea.

Historical Miniatures Gaming Society
"...mesmerizing reading at its best."
ARGunners.com
"In war novels authors typically feature ships such as destroyers, battleships, or aircraft carriers, but not support vessels. By focusing on the support vessels, Parotti provides readers with a different view of the two wars and leaves them with an appreciation for the crafts’ significance along with the men who took care of these damaged ships."
National Maritime Historical Society
"With an impressive and genuine flair for a distinctive and narrative driven storytelling style, Phillip Parotti's new novel, Through Bitter Seas will provide his readers with deftly crafted and gripping World War II naval action thriller set in the Mediterranean Sea."

- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2023"Through Bitter Seas" is the latest in a series of eminently readable and thoroughly researched war novels
by an author who, to use a cliché, “knows his stuff.” As in his previous works, beginning with "Splinter on the Tide," Parotti eschews the iconic big-ticket battles and feats (e.g., Midway, the Doolittle raid, Dunkirk, et. al.) to focus on a handful of “bit players” but bit players whose bravery and heroism are just as vital to the Allies' ultimate victory as any of the superstars'. In this case, the protagonists are the crew of a Navy Rescue Tug, an unlikely sounding vessel to serve as the subject of a war novel, but trust me, Parotti makes it work. A riveting story with a cast of believable characters and fascinating historic detail. Read it, and you'll be wanting more.
