Marla Atwell’s father had left behind a mountain of debt when he and his wife had a fatal accident. Marla had promised her mother she would take care of her sister Effie. Her mother had demanded she has the best and marries wealthy. Now, how could she pay the bills and take care of her five-year-old sister?
Should Marla consider the advertisement she got from the church advertising for a wife? Jack Green had sent the advertisement and was ready to marry sight unseen. After all, he needed a cook. However, They both suffer from loss and wonder if marriage is right for them.
I appreciated the way the author wrote about the gentle romance in this story. And that Effie was loved and included. I give A Promise in Haste in Knob Creek 5*/5*.

Marla decides to become a mail order bride after their parents die and they lose everything. She travels with her sister to marry someone she's never met. Jack doesn't really want to marry but gives in to sending an ad. When he sees that Marla has a little girl, he thinks the worst of her. Sweet story of them getting to know each other. Interesting story keeps you turning the pages!
I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
The characters aren't complex, but they aren't dealing with the stuff we don't know about them yet. We learn of their hurts and missteps organically, as they share with each other.
They've each learned lessons from the hardships they faced in the recent past. But they've each got a lot to learn about dealing with each other.
