The Lazy Approach to Evangelism: A Simple Guide for Conversing With Nonbelievers Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

Unfortunately, the biblical command of apologetics in evangelism is often neglected and misunderstood within our churches today. Some think it’s optional; others assume it’s merely arguing with nonbelievers, while others outright deny its pragmatic (not to mention biblical!) application. As a result, the church has become a largely irrelevant, ignorable institution within the public sphere of ideas. But this need not be the case.

Rather than learn new gospel presentations, we must learn
how to have gospel conversations. Evangelism doesn’t have to be intimidating or difficult, but in a growing culture of doubt, it must be effective. That is the aim of this book. To equip you with the tools necessary for initiating and navigating fruitful conversations with nonbelievers in a secular society. This is the role of apologetics in evangelism. This is an act of worship as disciples of Jesus. This is spiritual warfare. This is The Lazy Approach to Evangelism.

Eric’s approach added to Greg Koukl’s tactics truly builds confidence in evangelizing in the day to day opportunities!

Our apologetic Bible class (Defenders) is journeying through together! And I am enjoying how Eric lays the foundation for all to understand, especially with his real world engagements. He’s absolutely brilliant! We are halfway and I’m so excited to finish and I know I’ll need to go back again and again as a resource until it becomes instinctive! Love his encouragement to sharpen our apologetical situational awareness! Because there’s so many that is in need of our loving and gracious encounters of the truth! Thank you Eric for equipping us to be bold, salt and light to the world around us! God bless you with much favor for this gift!! And hope to see an audible option soon!

My husband is reading this book and he just cannot resist sharing parts with me. It is very insightful especially regarding our traditional methods of evangelism and how shallow they are...without much biblical precedent. We will be sharing these concepts with many people. Very much in alignment with Greg Koukl's "gardening" principles for gospel conversations. A lot of additional content that's eye opening and refreshing beyond evangelism. We will be looking of more from this author who is new to us. Encouraging to see people thinking outside the box and pursing more biblical ways of going about God's business.

I don’t consider myself to be an apologist, so I started this book with some trepidation. By the second line I was hooked. This is a beautifully written, thorough, and uniquely accessible book about how all Christians, not just those in ministry or heavily into evangelism, can help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Hernandez covers every aspect of the field, including a profound discussion on understanding the dominant worldviews in our culture and those of the people we are addressing.
One of the things I love about this book is its clarity. While a good deal of philosophy and other specialized subjects are covered, they are done so with utmost regard for the reader by giving clear definitions of terms and jargon. The organization of the book makes it easy to find topics of interest, and allows the reader to build expertise in a stepwise fashion.
After finishing this book, I realized that it not only serves as a brilliant guide for those wishing to help friends and relatives see the truth of Jesus Christ through apologetics, its also an apologetics book itself. Many arguments for belief in the truth of the key tenets of Christianity are presented and carefully explained. At the same time, most of the common arguments against Christian beliefs found among atheists, nones, and fence-sitting skeptics are convincingly demolished. So, whether you consider yourself a would be apologist, a devout Christian, a person with questions and doubts, or even an agnostic heading toward atheism, (or if you know anyone in those categories), this book is for you.

Don't let the title fool you! This is a theologically and philosophically robust and substantive book (that's simple to understand and practical in application) that I'm praying becomes mandatory reading in seminaries, all church leadership, local church's weekly Bible study, and all laity in general. Awesome book! I highly recommend it.

I did not think Hernandez could translate the clarity and engagement, for which his live presentations have made him well known, into book form. I have spoken at conferences several times with the author, and have had the chance to hear him speak on a number of subjects. He's dynamic, funny, sincere, and most of all - he takes extremely complex ideas, and makes them understandable to almost anyone. How do you do that in a book? You can't. You just can't. EXCEPT... Hernandez did just that! That's why this book is a rare accomplishment in literature on evangelism and apologetics. That's why, as someone who is asked, on a weekly basis, to recommend the very best resources in this arena, I'm thrilled to add "The Lazy Approach" to the top of my list.

I absolutely love this book, I have read a lot of material and have watched many videos to help me and my approach to understand the daunting task of “Go and make disciples” - Eric does a great great job teaching, explaining and encouraging a lay person like myself do the work of the Lord in a way understanding what we will be up against and how to be a wonderful listener and why and what to listen for, to better love the person you’re trying to develop a relationship with - I REALLY appreciate the real life stories of Eric’s personal interactions with unbelievers and the outcome of what it could look like both the good and not so good-

I personally have taught Apologists and Evangelism for YWAM and I’m thankful for the next time bc I will quoting Eric and applying this book as examples-

I highly recommend that you buy one for yourself, one for your pastor, outreach leader and Missions leadership -

Anyone that may struggle to defend their Christian faith, this book is great support. It is chocked full of easy to understand and read information that can help anyone at any stage of their walk with Christ to speak to others that may be unbelievers or simply have questions. Understanding your Christian faith and being able to defend it is paramount to your walk with Christ. There are many great books out on the subject of apologetics, but if you only get one, get this one.
