This was not my favorite book by Dolly Price. This one starts out with confusion of who is the father of the baby left on the doorstep with a note saying the homeowners are her grandparents. They don't
believe it and foster Emma out. After her foster parents die, Emma is left homeless. She suffers many harrowing trials. It is very heartbreaking. Then suddenly the author throws in a bunch of details to wrap things up and there is a happy ending.
