Not the best or most polished of tales, but an interesting story nonetheless. As danger circles, our wizard uses his ingenuity, gathers allies, and finds that he needs to budget time to take care of himself-- eating, sleeping, and facing the pain of his past-- if he wants to survive and invest in the future. We see his struggles and his growth-- and how those he's befriended are able to return that friendship. We also see how our wizard and friends weather the seige of their city.
I look forward to seeing how the relationships with minor characters develop; we have an interesting and diverse cast at this point. We also have a bit of romance brewing, as well as our wizard's decisions to train (or not train) a potential apprentice.
This book comes to a decent resolution-- a "happily for now"-- with lots of potential remaining for future books. I'm interested in seeing where the story goes, what our various characters get up to, and what else our wizard is able to invent (or discover) when folks leave him alone to do a bit of research :D
I do so enjoy magical scientist types, and our wizard is that, as well as a warrior. (I'm particularly interested to see how things go with the lady alchemist...)

It is my hope that the author is working on book 3 (4,5,6 &7). The world he has built has so much potential for adventure and intrigue. There are a plethora of characters with interesting back-stories to tell; a mystery or two to unravel; relationships to develop. Needless to say this was an enjoyable read. My congratulations to the author.

This is a very entertaining book. I had been struggling to get through another book I was reading when this came out. What a difference. I couldn't put this book down. Good mix of character development and action scenes. The battle at the end of the book is stressfully exciting. The end seems to wrap up this story arc but leaves open the possibility of more books. I will certainly get the next one if the author writes it.

The book is amazing and the world building is astounding. The magic system is complex and love how there is a very diverse group of characters and powers.

There was a lot of description and talking that was kind of annoying even though I was interested. I’ll have to check on the next one in a little while. The sorcerers were more challenging on this one.

Entirely different magic framework. Really works well with the story. I think overall I found the love interest to be the most enthralling aspect of the story.

According to the story the MC should be OP, but the author tries so hard to avoid it that the result is an unlikable MC UP and incompetent that has to be saved and causes his allies to die all the time. None of it makes sense and it's boring as ...

If you liked the first book this is a great sequel. This is a more unique story where races are truely different and the author makes the city and all characters feel alive. Its also a complete story with a satisfying ending. I still want book 3 asap but we get conclusions to most of the plot lines.
