Flicker of Trust (Burning Bright Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

When a woman disappears, Ryan’s past is fair game.
Party animal Ryan Hainstock has made an about-face. He’s now an elder-caring, money-saving, church-going man with bright plans to set himself up farming. Somehow, whether he rates with her or not, those plans always include sweet and smart Lynnie Min and her young daughter. Problem is, Ryan’s past keeps coming back to condemn him.
Lynnie Min, too young for the title of widow, travels the lonely road of single motherhood in a rural community. Her dreams were crushed by tragedy when terrorists claimed the lives of her husband and one of her daughters. While gratitude should fill her heart for the presence of three-year-old Anya, a longing for something more stirs within her. She can’t help noticing the changes in Ryan, a man she once knew as a high school jock.
While their affection deepens, greater forces conspire to destroy their growing love. A murder charge, a kidnapping, a child abandoned…Can Ryan and Lynnie overcome danger and distrust to find each other again?

In a fit of optimism at age eleven, Eleanor Bertin began her first novel by numbering a stack of 100 pages. Two of them got filled.

Eleanor holds a college diploma in Communications and worked in agriculture journalism until the birth of her first child. The family eventually grew to include seven children, all girls except six. Writing was crowded out by homeschooling a houseful for 25 years until Lifelines, her first completed novel and Book 1 in The Ties that Bind series, was shortlisted in the 2015 Word Alive Free Publishing Contest.

Eleanor and her husband live with their youngest son, who has Down syndrome, amidst the ongoing renovation of a century home in central Alberta. She blogs about a sometimes elusive contentment at jewelofcontentment.wordpress.com. www.eleanorbertinauthor.com

I am so glad there was a sequel to Flames of Mercy! I really enjoyed this story... and look forward to more Eleanor Bertin books!

This book is a great read that hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. It has just the right amount of drama, suspense, and a murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. Ryan and Lynnie's story is so much more than a sweet romance. It's a powerful story of overcoming your past, learning to trust, forgiveness and God's redemption and grace. I loved this book and highly recommend it.

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. This happened to be Book 2 in the series and although I didn't feel lost while reading I can also see how Book 1 would have been helpful in getting to know Lynnie Min's background a bit better. This book is about Lynnie and Ryan. I really enjoyed their story. Ryan has a past that he's trying to leave behind. I loved how throughout the book he is seeking to be a better man in God's eyes. His dad is really tough on him and honestly he was my least favorite character. I'm curious to see if he has a redemption arc in the next book.

Lynnie sees something in Ryan that no one else seems to. She knows he is trying and although doubts creep in at times she still knows that he is trying to put his life in the right path. The growth of these characters throughout the book was very realistic.

Overall I really enjoyed this story and thought the author did a great job with the characters and the faith thread. I can't wait to read more from her in the future!

There are numerous reasons to like this book! First of all, the characters are lovable and relatable. Some of them are a little shady, but all of them are realistic and dynamically portrayed. The plot moves along at a fast pace with multiple layers that include romance and a mysterious disappearance of one of the women from the small town. Some of the characters, like Ryan’s father, had to grow on me as I got used to his sarcasm and how difficult he was to get along with. I enjoyed the family meals, how the family cared for each other and how Linnie offered to help Ryan by tutoring him. This is just an all-around good book with lessons to teach and drama to entertain. Underlaid with a solid biblical foundation, the novel teaches about forgiveness, forbearance, persistence and being hopeful about an unknown future. The story was woven seamlessly together, even with several sub-plots and it all came together nicely in the end. There are a few surprises that added to the mystery, too, so those were a welcome addition. This is a book that I can highly recommend to those looking for good Christian fiction that portrays people with flaws but who are trying to overcome and be better. This book is a cleverly written page-turner that has me anticipating the next book from this author.

I really enjoy the Christian Contemporary Fiction genre. Flicker of Trust by Eleanor Bertin is the most recent book that I have read. It is Book 2 in the Burning Bright series. I have read Book 1 in this series and have been anxiously awaiting this Book!

We are reintroduced to Lynnie Min in book 2. Lynnie is raising her young daughter, Anya, as a Single Mom after her husband and other daughter were killed a few years ago. The book is about Lynnie and an old high School friend, Ryan. Lynnie LOVES her daughter, but is wanting something more in her life. Ryan does have a past that might deter Lynnie from a relationship with him. I LOVE that Lynnie sees that Ryan is a changed man. He is also a Man of God with Goals for his life, like farming. Lynnie and Ryan do grow their relationship and they don't let outside happenings get in their way. The book is one of Faith, LOVE, Second Chances and more. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance books. WONDERFUL BOOK!

I enjoyed returning to this series and the story of Lynnie and Anya! I highly recommend reading the books in order, since they build on the story.
Life has not followed the path that Lynnie thought it would, with being a widow at such a young age. She has the chance to reconnect with Ryan, an old friend from high school, who has changed quite a bit. I love that she sees the changes that he has made, and accepts him as he is, since I know it can be hard to look at someone you have know for a long time as the person God is shaping them into, without their past clouding the picture. This story has a lot going on, with their budding friendship and the mystery. This is a wonderful story to pick up and enjoy!

Flicker of Trust follows Lynnie Min whom we met in book one, Flame of Mercy. Because it has been a while since the first book was published, I wish that Eleanor Bertin had included a bit of a recap to help readers with the “backstory.” While I think reading the books in order would be a plus, I think readers can read Flicker of Trust as a stand alone.
In Flicker of Trust Bertin’s characters learn more about trust and putting the past in the past when coming to Christ.
While the book does have a satisfactory ending, I hope there is more to this series - I’d like to learn more about Lynnie and Ryan as well as Lynnie’s sister and aunt and Ryan’s father who seem to have stories to tell.

I received a complimentary copy of Flicker of Trust. This is my honest review.

I loved the personalities in this story, the way the author showed how each of us are a mixture of strengths and weaknesses, and the gift community can be.

The opening of this book got me--the first couple of pages describing emotions and harsh realities of agricultural living that is something the author (and I, the reader, by the way) really understands. In this sequel to her first novel of the series, Bertin builds great characters (some dark, others bright lights, a few in between) and takes them through real questions about guilt, forgiveness, trust, and feel-good romance. A satisfying read!
