I read this as a beta reader, and the author has been one of my favorite author’s to work with. Not only did she write an impeccable story, but she is also hardworking and compassionate. She was receptive to all my constructive criticisms and critiques. That being said this review and opinion is entirely from my own mind.
I absolutely love the world-building, character-building, and story telling in this book. Mira is head-strong, but also young and inexperienced. A fantastic recipe for a perfect heroine. The author has a way of making the “side characters” shine through so we can know and love each one of them dearly. This skill is a blessing and a curse for many reasons.
If you enjoy a found family trope with heavy aspects of adventure and camaraderie, this is absolutely the book for you. Add in the fact that this is a dark portal fantasy with elemental aspects and it’s the perfect recipe for many of my booktok besties.
This book had many ATLA vibes, so it was nostalgic and refreshing at the same time. I could be a bit biased in that aspect because it’s one of my favorite shows from childhood.
Ultimately, I have and will continue to recommend this book to anyone and everyone looking for their next read. READ THIS BOOK!
