- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2024Drawing on first-person accounts and diligent research, Louella Bryant takes the reader on a journey back to the tumultuous Viet Nam War era of the 60s & 70s, and the lives of young expats living on a commune in Australia. She weaves a many-hued tapestry of stories, whose outcomes are as varied as the commune members themselves. An Afterword written by Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont, about his late brother Charlie--who is a main character in the book-- adds gravitas as it brings the story into our time. I highly recommend this book!
