Heartless Kindle Edition
Jolene Hall is dead. Sort of. She can walk, think, and talk, but her heart no longer beats. After being abducted and subjected to horrific experimentation, Jo wakes to find her body is a mosaic of jagged scars and stapled flesh. Fueled by the desperate need to know who turned her into a monster, Jo sets off with her best friend, Lucy, and her boyfriend, Eli, to find those responsible.
But as Jo nears the truth, her physical state takes a turn for the worse and she soon realizes she may have put those close to her in mortal danger.
Just how far is she prepared to go? Will she sacrifice herself—or what’s left of her—to save the people she loves?
“Every word . . . is threaded with menace; every scene thumps with anticipation. Even as you feel for Jo you recoil, not knowing what’s coming next. . . . An unputdownable story about life, loss, and the indomitable will to survive.” —S. K. Falls, author of World of Shell and Bone

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2024The author is my sister so I may sound a bit bias, but I try too speak the truth on Reviews. When she was writing this story, I got to read through it several times ago and give editing suggestions. I loved the story and pushed her to publish after she had published a zombie series.
It's a great and unique take on a tje Frankenstein's Monster theme. I've enjoyed it every time I'd read it; whatever evolutionary stage that it was in. No spoilers, so I won't say anything else about the story except that it is an easy read that makes sense.
She first published with a small publisher that was bought out by another publisher. While the new publisher was looking through the books they inherited, they came across Heartless and immediately decided to reissue it with a couple of tweaks.
Buy this, read it, and if you enjoy it share your reviews and pass the information on to your friends..leah has at least 2 more books for the series in her head just waiting to come out and onto paper (or an iMac screen, but whatever) she just needs the fan base to justify publishing them. If this all goes well, you will definitely be hearing , or reading, more from the lovely Leah Soltis....our family's mistress of horror.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2024I’m not a fan of horror movies or books, however the storyline of this book intrigued me enough that I decided to give it a try. The story is weird in a good way, peppered with humor and above all it reads fluently. I enjoyed the friendship between Jo and Lucy and their hilarious banter. Even the very gruesome details are described with a very enjoyable sense of humor. I can’t wait to read more books from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2024I'd like to thank the author and Bloodhound Books for this ARC read. ♡
◇ A modern take on frankenstien, this is a whirlwind of a book. I really enjoyed the characters & the bonds they shared. I thought the flow of the book was nice & the mysteries kept me wanting to read to delve into who "they" are. The people who could take an innocent girl with her life ahead of her & turn her into something unimaginable out of a twisted desire to "change the world."
◇ The emotional up & downs will have you laughing while also feeling sorrow for what these girls, especially Jo, who is such an amazing woman, go through.
◇ I will say this book is pretty descriptive, so if you're sensitive to that kind of thing, this might not be the book for you. I thought it really brought the story to life, though.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2024I really enjoyed this new take on “Frankenstein”. It was a bit more gruesome than my typical reads but still quite an emotional journey. Well worth the read!
