Fallen Angel: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 52 ratings

A not-so-regular high school girl meets the guy of her dreams and finds her destiny in this supernatural thriller from the author of the Books of Eva.

Ellie Faneuil lives a pretty normal life in Tillinghast, Maine, if you don’t count the far-flung summer vacations she takes with her do-gooder parents. Oh, and her ability to touch someone and know their deepest, darkest secrets. But all that changes when she meets Michael Chase, the very attractive new guy who claims he knows her from a trip to Guatemala.

Ellie feels a very powerful connection with Michael, one that only deepens with a kiss and a tiny taste of blood. Apparently, she and Michael are vampires? If that’s not enough to rock her world, Ellie learns that she can fly. Feeling a fierce urge to use her powers for good is a step in the right direction, especially when Ellie learns the real truth from her parents: she’s no bloodsucker. She comes from a long line of fallen angels, and there’s a prophecy that’s all hers to fulfill . . .

I loved this book! Devoured it in one weekend. Seriously, I just tuned out everything else and lost myself in this. It seemed to have more depth than most vampire love stories I've read and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough toward the end. A must-read, for sure.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: Quick moving YA Paranormal with a fun story. The characters were a tad bit annoying and the plot was very predictable.

Opening Sentence: I watched my curtains billow in the early autumn wind that wafted through my open bedroom window.

    The Review:

Ellie has always been a little different. Ever since she can remember she has had some otherworldly powers that she has never been able to explain. For instance, when she touches someone she can see some of their memories, and in her very real feeling dreams she can fly. She doesn't know what she is, but she has kept it a secret from everyone including her parents and best friend. Then one day a new boy moves into town and there is something different about him. Michael is gorgeous and Ellie instantly feels a connection with him. Turns out Michael is just like Ellie, and together they decide to try and figure out what they are. Soon they are dragged into an ancient battle and Ellie's not sure if they are going to pick the same side. Ellie has to decide who she can trust and what she is willing to sacrifice to protect the people she loves.

Ellie is our heroine in the books and I had a hard time liking her. There were times that she had a very strong voice and she was interesting and independent. She tries really hard to do the right thing even when it's not easy. Then there were times when she was just dumb. She was very indecisive and changed her mind way too much. She acted before thinking and she was far too impulsive. Suffice to say I had a hard time connecting with Ellie, which made me sad because I really did want to like her.

Michael is your average good looking guy, but I found him to be a little boring. He didn't really have any qualities that really stuck out to me. People could persuade him really easily and he was a go with the flow type of person. He was really cute with Ellie and I did like them together. They had good chemistry, but I felt that the romance developed a little too fast. Overall, I had a hard time connecting with both Ellie and Michael which made it hard for me to really love this book.

This was fast paced and the story was fun to read, but I wouldn't really say it was unique. This was written a few years ago, and since then there have been a lot of angel books written that I enjoyed much more than this one. The plot was fairly predictable, and the characters were just mediocre. On the flip side of things it was a really fast read and overall I did enjoy the book. The writing was well done and I am excited to see what happens in the next book. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a fast read and likes YA Paranormal books.

FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of Fallen Angel. No goody bags, sponsorships, "material connections," or bribes were exchanged for my review.

I absolutely loved this dark, soapy, juicy, romantic fantasy. It felt like the very best of old school Twilight-era YA. Great read.

An exciting debut in the young adult genre Fallen Angel is the first book in a series that supposedly is going to be of 6 books (not so happy about that but oh well). I was able to read this book thanks to IBT. At first I wasn't very convinced because of the book description mixing Angels & Vampires can be a bit tricky but I was glued since page 1, in one I sit I read almost 200 pages but unlucky the last quarter of the book suffers because it reaches a point where it gets slow and it gets a bit hard to still be interested as you were at beginning and the end is not a blowing mind as I thought it would be but even after that I think the book deserves a chance.

Ellie, the heroine of the story, is a normal teenager she's not in the popular crowd but she's not a social pariah either. She's just a normal girl trying to cope with her powers, the harsh of being a teenager and also the fact that her parents are trying to save the world doing missionary work every year and they expected a lot from her. What I liked about Ellie is that she is not our typical female character who needs saving nor the kicking ass heroine either she's in the middle, making her responsible and a person to make things done without much help. I like characters like this because there's a balance and it feels more real, well at least to me.

And there's Michael, the new hot boy who is extremely handsome and have obvious fixation for Ellie. Even though his character is very important in the story I must confess he was in need of more personality, I mean they shared this undeniable bond and also their powers. In some way he was a mentor for her and yet she seemed a stronger character which is not bad but yet the male character isn't very interesting if you find him weak. I expect a LOT more from him in Eternity.

The author took her time to work on the antecedents of the story, the idea of angels & vampires theory didn't seem absurd nor forced. I think the main flaw of the book is the ending, you are expecting something BIG to happen and something do happen but it was very anticlimactic and the antagonist of the story was a bit weak even though he explains his motives I think there should have more background about him and the end revelation of who is? It should shock you but since the end was a bit blah I think that in the end the character was not wise used. But please do give this book an opportunity, is a fast action paced and almost all the book would leave you asking for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review: Fallen Angel by Heather Terrell
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 14, 2012
Ellie knew there was something different about her. She was unlike no one else. Ellie can read minds from a single touch. She also starts off having dreams of flying that to her feel so real, and when she meets Michael, he helps her to realise that she isn't dreaming she's flying, she actually IS flying. She then discovers that Michael also shares the same unique powers. Michael sees Ellie at school and recognises her from somewhere, and it turns out they met a few years back in Guatemala. Ellie's parents are professors, and they travel in the summertime to various locations to teach farmers better ways to have improved land. Michael is handsome, charming and sweet. But Michael has a secret, and when Ellie discovers that secret, she feels relieved and glad that she's finally found someone who is just like her in her abilities. When Ellie starts to remember Michael from the past, they slowly get closer and eventually romance blossoms. They are both determined to discover what they are and how they got that way. The more and more they find out, the scarier their situation and lives become.

This book is the first book in the series. The second book is called 'Eternity'. Throughout most of the story, Ellie and Michael go through tasks where they try to discover who and what they are, and their family backgrounds, etc.
In terms of characters, I liked the relationship between Ellie and Michael. I like Ellie's personality. I believe she is a strong female. Michael seems mysterious at first, and then you find he turns into a like-able character, which is good.
The ending I found quite gripping, as you are still left in the unknown, so it makes you want to carry on into the next book in the series. I want to find more about what they are, and if their relationship is still strong.
In general I enjoyed the storyline of this book. I love books about angels, nephilim and all sorts of mythical creatures. I love the way it was written. The chapters are nicely short, so if you need a break, it's got easy places to stop for one.
I gave this a four star rating because I would recommend this book as I did enjoy it, and I'm not sure if I would read it again, although I did enjoy the story. Overall I recommend this book to you if you are into books with this sort of theme.
    Happy reading =)

3.0 out of 5 stars I fell to earth with a thud. Or so I thought.

Cheers !
