Blood of the Cosmos (The Saga of Shadows) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 722 ratings

The titanic conflict continues between galactic civilizations and the life-destroying force of sentient shadows… After the events in the Hugo-nominated The Dark Between the Stars, the humans and Ildirans have narrowly escaped annihilation by the Shana Rei and their alien robot allies. But civilization in the Spiral Arm is at the risk of extinction from the deadly black clouds that absorb all life. The last few survivors of the mysterious Gardeners, whose worlds were smothered by the Shana Rei millennia ago, raise countless questions of their own, and these alien refugees may be a disaster in disguise. What is their true intent? A desperate alliance among empires tests a provocative new weapon that may be powerful enough to combat the deadly shadows … but its horrible failure could bring the human race and its allies to the brink of annihilation. An epic space opera filled with intertwined plots, colorful ideas, a large cast of characters, and dozens of solar systems, alien races, and strange creatures.

Yes, I have a lot of books, and if this is your first visit to my amazon author page, it can be a little overwhelming. If you are new to my work, let me recommend a few titles as good places to start. My major new fantasy trilogy (all finished!) consists of SPINE OF THE DRAGON, VENGEWAR and GODS AND DRAGONS. My newest Dune novel with Brian Herbert is THE HEIR OF CALADAN, end of a new trilogy. I also love my Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. series—newest one is DOUBLE-BOOKED— humorous horror/mysteries, which begin with DEATH WARMED OVER. My steampunk fantasy adventures, CLOCKWORK ANGELS, CLOCKWORK LIVES, and CLOCKWORK DESTINY, written with Neil Peart, legendary drummer from Rush, are some of my very favorite novels ever. And my magnum opus, the science fiction epic The Saga of Seven Suns, begins with HIDDEN EMPIRE. After you've tried those, I hope you'll check out some of my other series.

I have written more than 175 books, including 59 national or international bestsellers. I have over 24 million books in print worldwide in thirty languages. I've been nominated for the Nebula Award, Hugo Award, Bram Stoker Award, Shamus Award, and Silver Falchion Award, and I've won the SFX Readers' Choice Award, Golden Duck Award, Scribe Award, and New York Times Notable Book; in 2012 at San Diego Comic Con I received the Faust Grand Master Award for Lifetime Achievement.

I have written numerous bestselling and critically acclaimed novels in the Dune universe with Brian Herbert, as well as Star Wars and X-Files novels. In my original work, I am best known for my Saga of Seven Suns series, the Terra Incognita trilogy, the Dan Shamble, Zombie PI series, and Clockwork Angels and Clockwork Lives with Neil Peart. Along with my wife Rebecca Moesta, I am also the publisher of WordFire Press. Find out more about me at wordfire.com, where you can sign up for my newsletter and get some free fiction.

I have yet to read a book by Kevin J. Anderson that I didn't like. There was several times I stayed up much too late reading in bed. This new series by him is very good. The chapters are very short and keep me wanting more. I'd recommend this book to anyone. It builds off his previous series "The saga of the seven suns" and I was glad I read the previous series first. This series takes place 20 years after the first series and although it is it's own story it does take place in the same universe and some of the characters are in both. Get them both and enjoy.

Some of the subplots feel a bit tedious but the larger themes kept me interested enough to to lose several hours of sleep. Nice to see a gay couple. As with the Saga series I want MORE and anxiously await the next.

This installment maybe the darkest of the series and it is awesome. The battle continues to save the universe from robots and a dark entity bent on the destruction of all life. You learn more about some of the newer characters and discover some disturbing things.

Complex and rich. Thoroughly enjoyable. I am excited for book three. Something myself and others have struggled with is the format of the book. It is not a linear read. Inter-weaving so many story lines and characters causes the author to circle back and sometimes seeming to re-introduce characters. Some people might think this is poor authorship and structure. I respectfully disagree. I think it's a matter of format choice and reader expectations.

I loved the first series and it's twists and turns. I was looking forward to this series but unfortunately this book has "sequel disease" like most mass market these days. The plot takes too long to develop because there is too much rehashing of the other book storylines. It ruins the flow of the book to have to continually reread what you already know.

The end of the world again. Different decade different enemy. Except for the black robots that have reared their metallic heads and sided with chaos/entropy to remove the existence of all life from the universe.

    The pace is good.
Would be even better if Kevin didn't keep rehashing the pasts of some of the characters. It is like he has copied and pasted certain sections over and over. Please never let me read about ,Zoe's father's death again and what happened on Rakkem, or he breeding project with Nira please

So with impossible odds stacked against humanity. We are hooked, hopeful for a win for humanity and our friends the Ildirans.

Well worth h to he read

Kevin J Anderson has created a fantastic universe with the Saga, in my view second only to that of Frank Herbert's Dune.
This is the second book in a trilogy set twenty years post The Saga of Seven Suns series. Some of our favorite characters return, and we meet some new ones that may surprise us.
    And the Klikiss Robots! YIKES!
Now waiting impatiently for the concluding volume.
    Great good fun.

Like the original Saga of the Seven Suns this series rattles along very well. Old, familiar characters are mixed in with intriguing new ones . There are the same multiple but intersecting story threads of which a few, if you are familiar with Mr Anderson's style, have fairly obvious outcomes at first glance but there is so much scope and imagination involved in the creation of this universe that you are never truly certain. Another brilliant read from, in my opinion, one of the four best authors publishing SF today.
