About the author

Barbara Emodi writes cozy mysteries set in Nova Scotia, Canada. Gasper’s Cove doesn’t really exist but it will seem awful familiar to anyone who lives where she does. The community is based all she believes matters in life - extended family, companion animals, good food, and more sewing, crafting, quilting, and knitting projects than any reasonable person would take on.
Barbara writes what she likes to read - whimsical, witty, warm books, that reflect her belief that there is nothing ordinary about ordinary people. She also likes clever surprises, important in mysteries, and promises one at the end of each book. To visit Gasper’s Cove yourself you can read Barbara’s novels in her Gasper’s Cove Mysteries series or her Gasper’s Cove Quick Cozies novella series.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2025Love this book, always a twist at the end
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2024I really enjoyed this book, it's the fourth in the series but my first. I never felt lost at all, the author does a great job of letting you know who's who without drowning you in details of past books. I definitely want to read Ms Emodi's other books now, including the sewing ones. I also found the questions in the back of the book really neat, they'd be great for book club discussions. She also cies some of her resources for parts of the story that are interesting. So many interesting things in this story, I had to stop reading and look up candlepin bowling as I'd never heard of it, sounds fun. Except for that brief indulgence in discovery I read the book straight through as it kept me wanting to know who and why!! Definitely a keeper.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2024I love these books, so much to enjoy! The descriptions are always so detailed it feels like you've visited Gasper's Cove yourself. The interactions among the characters are engaging and, as a sewist myself, I appreciate that aspect of each story. And then there is the history, I always learn so much. It makes me want to visit the "real" area of Canada! I highly recommend this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2024I loved getting to know Valerie and the colorful characters in her small town in Nova Scotia. She is a delightfully determined sleuth! I loved the way she used common sense to her advantage! I had never read any of this series before and found it very easy to pick up and read as a standalone book. Now I’m ready to read the other books as well! These are my thoughts after reading an advance copy of the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2024Once again Barbara has proved my sleuthing skills to be sub-par. I was SURE I had this mystery solved but I was so off! Along the way I got laughs with her clever sewing references and her lovable and quirky characters. Highly recommend for a really fun and engaging read.
