About the author

I'm a quilt designer, author, teacher, and textile lover. The color, creativity, tactile nature of putting fabrics together makes me happy. It's where I find solace and make time to contemplate and seek answers.
I grew up with a fashion design mother and I have always been surrounded by patterns, textiles and sewing machines. I could create a welt pocket before I could drive because Mom taught me how to sew at such a young age. She shared her deep knowledge of fabric and garment construction with me and many (most?) of the lessons she taught stay with me to this day. When my interests changed, she taught me to quilt and, while there are many rules from garment making that apply to quilt making, I had to learn a lot, much of it the hard way. The rules she taught me have shaped much of my work. It's very much a part of my ethos and style.
I wrote my first book, Piecing Makeover (C&T Publishing 2016), about fine tuning your patchwork and solving common problems. My second book, The Perfect Piecing Pocket Guide (C&T Publishing 2022) is a much smaller version of my first book. It goes over the basics in a compact book, perfect for a travel bag or gifts. My third book, will be out in November 2024.
I am an accomplished quilter with several blue ribbon quilts and one Best of Show. I've had work featured in magazines, and online. I teach and lecture internationally.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2024Lots of great patterns in this book, and very motivating to get my fabric scrap stash out and start sewing. Lots of nice designs of easy to follow instructions with clear diagrams and photos. I highly recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024Patty’s techniques and ideas for zero waste sewing are not only environmentally friendly but stunning and fun. This book is not just for the quilters but crafters who like to sew, like myself.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2024Projects vary in size from cocktail napkins to full size quilts. Some are simple sewing that even a child could do, and some are more complex sewing like the double wedding ring. Whether you have a lot of scraps or just a few, whether you have a lot of time or just a few minutes to sew, there is a project for you in this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024I am so impressed by not only Patty’s creativity but her ability to show that thru her writings and diagrams. I highly recommend this book! If you are in the quilting world follow Patty!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2025Lots of great ideas.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2025(kindle version) author's thoughts on over-consumption, world resources, toxic fabric making etc are all admirable and correct. Patterns are not written for beginners, there aren't any templates for curves and there are some odd measurements and lots of Y-seams and bias cutting. I wish her well on her quilting journey, but don't recommend her as an author or teacher
